A solid game in the Ratchet and Clank series. Not my favorite but still a good game with witty humor, beautiful worlds, and very fun weapon designs. Overall the game did feel a little short at 100% in around 19 hrs (pre-challenge mode). The level design was a little lack luster compared to other games in the series - partially because you can skip everything with jet boots. As many people mentioned the story telling in this game is a little moppy for no apparent reason. Lastly, as a PC port there were quite a few bugs. I can only imagine how bad the PC port was on release based on the countless patches that Sony released (which im sure was appreciated - at least they listened to their fans!)

If your PC can run it, the game is absolutely gorgeous. Honestly the best Ratchet and Clank has ever played mechanically. Not all that great on the Steam Deck because of load times and how it transitions from area to area using rifts but no complaints otherwise.
Lombaxes are cute.
Unless you live with Patrick (under a rock) or have never paid any attention to a single console game. I find it unlikely that anyone reading this review does not know what Ratchet and Clank is. But I'll tell you anyway. Rift Apart is the first port of a R&C game to PC. I am unsure of its place in the timeline, but I don't feel that it's relevant as the game can played standalone without any knowledge or understanding of the surrounding lore or mechanics. Described succinctly Rift Apart is a third person shooter/action adventure with 3D platforming elements.
I honestly don't think there's much to say about this game.
It's fun, it's relatively simple. Straightforward. The combat can be chaotic given the nature of the weaponry. Coming from Insomniac Games, this developer and series are primarily known for its wacky and obtuse weapons and gadgetry. There is a considerable amount of weapon swapping do to low ammo — I believe this is designed intentionally to give the combat more variety. Using specific weapons also levels them up. Which is a separate leveling system to “Raritainium” used to unlocked nodes at the shop. It's all very standard affair. Typically you'll play as Ratchet in this series, with Clank on his back. But in Rift Apart, you be swapping between Ratchet and a character named Rivet. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3426329129 There are many collectibles and a few side activities in the game. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3426330540
Deck Specs
This is normally where I write how it performs on the Steam Deck. However, I didn't play it there. I tested it briefly — And while it is Verified, I would not call it an ideal experience. It's very much a 720@30ish on low or very low preset type of experience. The game features a TON of effects on weapons and telemetry to forecast enemy shots. The screen is absurdly busy all the time during combat. And there isn't that much exploration. It's playable on Deck, but not where I'd recommend it.
The Gist
It's a great game. Albeit a forgettable one. The last game I played of this series was “Up Your Arsenal” on the PS2. And this game did not strum my nostalgia strings the way I had hoped. It's still very fun, however. Wait for a sale if you're unsure. Or pay full price if you think it'll make Sony bring more stuff faster. The choice is ours, I believe in you. Ratchet & Clank was one of the franchises I played the most on PS2, PSP, and PS4. I really like the Ratchet & Clank series, and even though I had played this game before, I went back to it as soon as it was released on Steam, completing it 100%. Despite the PlayStation-to-PC port having several issues at launch, most of them have been fixed! I highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys an exciting story and lots of adventure—especially if you like a "cat" and a "robot" traveling together across planets. Because, after all, spoiler alert, they might finally find their soulmates xD.

Amazing game. Story rich. Incredible graphics. Great combat. Many weapon choices. Shiny particles. Every detail in this game is done perfect. Levels are understandable what to do and puzzles are not annoying.

Game is absolutely phenomenal but a bit short for 80 dollars, if you see it on sale definitely grab a copy and you will have tons of fun. It also is pretty demanding graphically but if you got the rig for it the game looks stunning.

Game runs A LOT better after adjusting some minor graphical settings, still looks great too. I had heard when this title was first released on PC that it had some optimization issues but I played through the whole thing without a hitch.

The game is undoubtedly fun and visually often stunning (though more so in the characters and objects than in the environments, which are technically fine but sometimes a bit boring), but it is also somewhat disappointing for how much it follows the established gameplay template to a T. The thing is: if you're going to bring in alternate dimensions and characters that are alternative versions of Ratchet and Clank, give them *something* so they feel less like mere reskins of the original characters. And the whole alternate dimension thing is underused in terms of gameplay. There would have been potential here for something a bit more original, but it's largely squandered on business as usual - though very well crafted business as usual, certainly.

Can't believe this game got patched to fix an nvidia stutter and they STILL haven't fixed players getting stuck permanently in Pocket Dimension 87-84-20. My only save is stuck in that place. I can't load out of it. I have to start over and lose literally 50% completion. This is disgusting. How could the same studio make a more competent game in the early 2010s with worse hardware, and they can't even fix a bug SO COMMON IT AUTOCOMPLETES ON GOOGLE 3 YEARS LATER. Loved the game, but I am not starting over and wasting my unpaid time when the maintenance developers can't even bother to do work that they are PAID to do.
