Technically excellent game, graphics and lighting are at masterpiece level. But there are a couple of questions about the level design, which feels too monotonous.

This game is great, when it runs. The constant crashes that I've been experiencing since hitting Pittsburgh are kinda unacceptable. Seems like a ram or vram leak or runaway issue. Hope they fix it as I'd like to play the second one as well. Going to unfortunately give the game a break and wait for maybe a patch or something, seems like its a common issue. Too bad as I was really into the game and enjoying it...

This is a very solid game overall. If I were to give it an arbitrary score out of 10, I’d say it sits around an 8. The story is engaging and full of unexpected moments, and the environmental storytelling is phenomenal throughout. The world feels lived-in and has a ton of detail. The scenery is gorgeous to look at, I took over 100 screenshots during my playthrough simply because it's that beautiful. The Left Behind DLC is incredibly good. It adds context to the main story and enhances it after the fact, it was thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. That said, I do have a few criticisms. The areas you explore often *feel* like "game levels" rather than parts of an open world. It’s a hard feeling to explain, but there's a certain artificiality to the layout that reminds you you're playing a game, not exploring a world. The biggest issue, however, is the gunplay. Combat feels clunky. The weapon-switching menu is awkward to use in the middle of a fight and overlaps with keybinds you frequently use, forcing you to wait for the menu to disappear before you can do what you want. Aiming over the shoulder resets every time you stop aiming, so if you swap guns you have to change shoulders again, which just adds to the clunkiness. Human enemies often feel unfairly aggressive, and it’s as if the game tells the AI when you're aiming at them behind cover so that they don't peek for you to shoot them. Sprinting near walls during combat slows you down, which is pretty frustrating, and I assume it's for the sake of animation smoothness, which feels like a design choice prioritising visuals over gameplay. In short, the game shines in stealth and story, but combat (particularly gunfights) feels like a weak link in an otherwise outstanding experience.

Spoiler-free review. A lot have been said about this game but here's my take on it 1. Story 📖 - 10/10 An emotional roller-coaster! Absolutely captivating right from start to finish. It's a game that simply resonates with me. Characters and world building is written in a way that helps you further connect and understand what's it like to live in the world of The Last Of Us. The artifacts you'll pick up along the way simply delivers lore in a natural way - even letting you connect with characters that have no screen-time. The dialogues between characters in cut scenes and while exploring the over world helps bring them to life. Pacing of game is well done which keeps me wanting more and wondering what's to come next. It's a treat all the way till the end of the line. 2. Visuals 🖼️ - 10/10 Everything is just beautifully done. The assets and art style really fits the tone of the game. The environment and background makes it worth exploring every inch of it. 3. Music & Sound 🎵 - 10/10 Captivating and memorable soundtrack. The soundtrack is well-placed, eliciting emotions that really pulls you in the scene. Sound effects and voice acting is done really well in bringing the characters and world to life. 4. Gameplay & Mechanics 🎮 - 8/10 Fun and engaging to playthrough. Character movement and combat is intuitive, the controls that come along with it feels natural on both the dual sense controller and KBM. Having the options to switch between both is great. Core mechanics of the game is well polished and the variety of opponents/weapons keeps the game fresh and interesting. The game also rewards your curiosity through exploration which is right up my alley. Did not encounter any bugs or glitches but crashes happen quite frequent if you try to blitz through certain scenes. 5. Replayability ⏪ - 4/5 Hands down it's worth multiple playthroughs. Finishing the game for the first time rewards you with a new game option. All the more rewarding for the feels all over again. 6. Accessibility ♿ - 5/5 Multiple difficulties available. You can have a chill run or challenge yourself with the highest difficulty. There's multiple gameplay/combat enhancement settings which can change the way you approach the game. Subtitles and colour-enhancing modes makes it easier to understand and navigate the world if needed. 7. Final Verdict 🎯 - 47/50 Near to perfection. This game simply sticks with me even after the credits rolls, and I believe it will do the same for you. Get this game if you enjoy a story masterfully done, a gameplay beautifully crafted and a world carefully created with all the love and care given to it.
"Endure and survive."

Introduction
I can recall with crystal clarity sitting in front of my computer in 2013, having just finished The Last of Us for the first time, and being unequivocally emotionally moved that I began to write my first-ever review for a game. And here I am again, 12 years later, sitting at my computer, just as emotionally moved as I was back then, perhaps by different elements, perhaps by the same. But the one comparative factor is that The Last of Us was, and is, one of the best games I ever played. Period. This review is inclusive of playing the Left Behind dlc.

[th]🟩 Positives[/th] [th]🟥 Negatives[/th]

🟩A phenomenally well-written and paced storyline that never stops delivering breath-taking moments. 🟩 The difficulty is reasonably balanced and can be changed at any time to make the experience easier or harder based on preference. 🟩 Gameplay-wise, it delivers a fun, fast-paced action experience, with all the tropes such as crafting, upgrades and exploration to bolster just about everything you do. 🟩 Despite being 12 years old now, The Last of Us is still one of the best-looking games on the market. 🟩 And lastly, the audio is impeccable, with a complete plethora of atmospheric and environmental audio that does nothing but improve the realism, coupled with a standout OST that perfectly encapsulates every scene. 🟥 Unfortunately, this perfect experience was tarnished by several crashes somewhat early in the game.

[th]🏆Achievements[/th]
A fairly easy 100% completion with only 29 achievements total and only a few easily missable ones. None of these will particularly pad out your playtime, and less so if you use one of the many available guides.

Story
In 2013, an outbreak of a mutated Cordyceps fungus began to spread and ravage the entirety of the US and the world, transforming its hosts into mindlessly aggressive creatures. Joel, the main protagonist of The Last of Us, seeks to escape the virus and pays the ultimate cost as his daughter, Sarah, passes away in his arms. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3473152173 Twenty years later, the known world has been decimated by the infection, and the now jaded, Joel has become a smuggler with his partner, Tess, in a quarantine zone in Boston. After a series of events they come across, Marlene, the leader of the Fireflies, asks the smugglers to take fourteen-year-old Ellie to the Fireflies that are hiding out nearby. Things spin out of control, and what was once an easy run-of-the-mill job becomes a country-wide journey where bonds are made, and emotions run high as they struggle to deliver Ellie to the Fireflies. Left Behind, The Last of Us DLC, is a prequel to the main game, where you play entirely as Ellie and get to experience her story during a major point in the main game, as well as her story prior to events of it. The DLC is only about 4 hours long, and won’t take you long to finish at all but delivers a lot of understanding to her motivations. I've done the storyline little to no justice above, but I want to give a rough synopsis without spoiling anything significant. Suffice it to say that this is a whirlwind of a story that just keeps on packing punches.
Gameplay Analysis

"I've struggled a long time with surviving."
The game can feel a little clunky to play at times, as the developers have tried to give the characters realism to their movement. Once you get used to it though, it doesn't slow you down much, as there are techniques you can use to improve your control and get around every situation. Getting used to things like quick turns, evading sidesteps and dash and vaults will help you stay alive in the short-term, in the long-term utilising them all effectively will help you finish the game on even the hardest difficulty.
"It's called luck, and it's going to run out."
The game is a linear exploration game with fast-paced and dynamic combat that aims to keep you on the edge of your seat the entire way through. As you begin to explore the world, you'll come across new weapons and items to upgrade and try out (sparingly upgrade, as the resources are rare) and use them against an AI that will use any trick they can to overcome you. AI learns and listens to your actions and will react accordingly, so it is imperative, especially on higher difficulties, to change up your attacks and never let them see your weaknesses. Exploring the world is important for more than just weapons, as there are resources to upgrade your gear and build new items scattered across the maps and requires diligence to find them all. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3473163179 There is no map in this game, so you will have to blindly explore each location to find everything that is hidden. If you do happen to miss something though, you can replay chapters and segments you've completed from the main menu which can help you tidy up any of the content you missed far easier than having to replay the entire game from scratch.
"Don't you have a plan B?"
New Game + is available for those of you who haven't quite had enough of the experience by the end, allowing you to restart the story with most of your upgrades intact. In addition to this, there's a rather chunky "Extras" section that allows you to alter your experience in a whole heap of ways, from slowing down time to changing the visual style of the entire experience. As well as some cheeky bonus skins for you to use on Joel and Ellie and their weapons across the playthrough.
Audio and Visual
The Last of Us is still one of the more visually impressive games on the market, and while its not flawless as you can sometimes see its age showing through, it still continuously delivers breath-taking visuals that will sicken, startle and calm you. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3473159535 The audio couples this perfectly, as each scene's beautiful atmospheric audio is encapsulated by a stunning OST that brings so much emotion with each note that it's almost like you're in the moment.
Performance and Specifications
Having run the game at 2560 x 1440 with everything set as high as it goes, I didn't notice any particular drop in frames, or any visual bugs across the journey. With that being said the game did crash quite a few times in the early chapters which was a bit disheartening coming into this experience again. 🟨 Quite a few early game crashes. RAM: Kingston Fury Beast 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 CPU: Intel Core i9 14900K 24 Core GPU: MSI Gaming X GeForce RTX 4090 24GB
Final Thoughts - Excellent
Review chart here. A flawless experience ruined by a terrible port. The Last of Us will forever be in my trophy case as one of the best games I've ever played. It emotionally charged me into review writing, and I am sitting here putting all of this onto "paper" because of the experience this game gave me so many years ago. You absolutely can't miss this one. It has its flaws, and it has its discomforts, but it is genuinely a journey without equal.
The infection has begun to spread, so head on over to Hell, Purgatory and Paradise that is the only hope for your salvation.
If you like good story and immersion - its a five stars game. If you all your life played on PC and expect certain standards - fuck this game (or rather that one studio executive who gave go ahead for PC release). Why does they even port this game to PC if they dont put the work required for it to be properly adapted for PC. Cause they like money and they think PC players will put up with this shit. Out of the blue request to connect PS4 controller alone is an insult enough. The mechanics are ridiculously frustrating and combat mechanics are important in the game where half the enemies can one-shot you. Studio gets the award for making such a great game so frustrating.

i ugly cried nonstop for the last half hour of this game. it was not even nearly the first time i’d ugly cried over the course of the game. the last of us hits you in the gut time and time again. it’s really an experience that leaves you wondering, well, if this isn’t a work of art, then what is? the last of us isn’t my favorite video game of all time and i don’t think it’s the best one ever made, either, but i absolutely would not question someone for holding those opinions.

Love it, but it crashes a ridiculous amount, and it feels like there's at least 2-3 crashes per chapter. Great game, but it needs some serious fixing.
