A harsh virtual reality zombie shooter with realistic mechanics, extremely dangerous enemies, liters of blood and dismemberment. This is not the place for beginners and casuals.

controls are shit and the optimization is horrible. Couldn't open any doors or figure out how to open the menu

Much better than when it was first released, there is an easy mode and a hard mode, which is really more of a hard or a impossible mode at it's current state of development. The gunplay is good for the most part, although it struggles at times due to the gun some times not firing and two handed guns struggling with accuracy with how much they move at time, but it is an early access game. The movement needs improving because there is currently only left handed directional movement and the movement speed itself is way too slow for how much you have to move. The gore is nicely done although sadly there is no option to hit a zombie with your gun or a chair, which would probably be a nice way to make the hard mode at least a little bit more fun and make up for the difficult reloading and inventory management. Overall the game is a good game, and is in a better state for an early access VR game then other VR games that have been released into early access. The game overall is unfinished but still better than some other games that are completely broken, I personally think we have just had too many great VR zombies games and games containing zombies games for something unfinished to be seen with the same eyes as a type of game we haven't seen a good take on yet. As on last note, I really like the ammo being the direction you picked it up in, it really makes reloading quickly hard, especially when you are actively getting attacked, although like I said earlier, adding in some form of bashing to allow you to stumble zombies would be a nice way to make that extra bit of difficulty not feel like there is no chance of survival at all.

Zombies got stuck on walls and kept wigging out. Game crashed after 5 minutes of playing. Was looking forward to this too, will rate again after this game has more work

While the concept of a 'realistic and serious' zombie shooter is a good, tried and true idea for virtual reality games, I can't recommend this game when the main idea of handling a firearm accurately and realistically in this game is having to manually fiddle and drop a magazine on a table to get it at the slightly jaunted angle needed to slide it into the magazine well while you're being spat and chewed on. In addition, the overall movement scheme is controller-based locomotion, with no ability to change these settings whatsoever, there's not even a settings menu to lower sound effects, or increase the smooth turning speed, being left at a slow-motion turn when you need it most. I can understand a game being easy to play, and hard to master, but this game seems to follow the trend of being difficult for the sake of being difficult and even clunky. In addition, even with a 3060 ROG gaming laptop that runs every other VR title at a smooth, and crisp 90 frames, this game suffers from stutters at the slightest turn of a corner, and the gore effects while absolutely stunning and visceral, seem to play a heavy hand in the loss of performance. So unfortunately, Putridness VR to me will stay just that. Utterly putrid, and reeking of development-hell. Perhaps when more ease-of-access options become available and the game becomes better polished and of a higher caliber than a 9x18 bullet, I'll give this game another go.

Alright, this is one of those games that I happened to stumble upon and see some form of potential for it. It also happened to be on sale so of course i bought it and played it. There is an over abundance of problems, but I'll just start with what's entirely in game for now. The first Problem is the complete lack of settings and options for gameplay, movement, and graphics. It's a game that only supports controller based movement which means that it's incredibly disorienting to try and move around at first. Besides that, no audio options? The music is great for ambiance but takes away from the "realistic" style the dev is claiming to go for, on top of the music/ambiance only serving to artificially heighten the tension. As for the gameplay itself, it feels like a bunch of half baked ideas put together. The "pockets" where you can place your items and weapons are horrible to use, usually resulting in the item I try to place in them not registering and falling on the ground at inopportune times, and then couple that with the pockets jumping around trying to follow your character's forward face means that you can't even grab what you're reaching for half the time unless you angle yourself and headset in a weird way. The gunplay that they're trying to say is realistic is barely there - pistols have frequent jams, which I genuinely don't know if it's meant to be a mechanic or if it's a bug, but it only happens with the pistols. The other weapons feel pretty standard, albeit inaccurate and cumbersome with how it locks your off hand to the front grip whenever you hold it. Another reason i have to call the gameplay lacking is simply due to no melee capabilities at all. I'm not sure if the dev is wanting to implement the mechanic or not? They've responded to a different review asking why they would need to melee since there's enough one handed weapons that are easy to grab? That's barely an argument since if I ran out of ammo I'd gladly use it as a makeshift bludgeoning device if need be. Yet another reason is how linear the gameplay feels. There's no real feeling of progress since it's basically just a hallway you go through and then back track occasionally. Besides that the enemies are strange, ranging from genuinely interesting zombie design to Mr. skeleton coughs out skulls at you. That also is kinda of a theme with the enemy attacks, just coughing blood on you by the looks of it. I'd say that I guess it looks like they're biting you, but with how far away they are, no. They just cough on you until you die abruptly since there's not really much in terms of a damage indicator. And finally, the biggest problem I have is the fact that the developer seems to hate any criticism involving the game. Theres a few other reviews where the dev kinda just insults the reviewer for "not playing it right" or saying things like "this isn't a casual game and you should've known that if you read the store page". Even called one reviewer a liar for addressing a possible bug in the game. I actually had to change my review before posting it because I checked out one of the review videos posted by fast lawyer who gives honest criticism and a pretty good review, but when i checked the comments, there they were. The dev. The dev decided to insult the reviewer and rant in the comments of the video calling them a "moron and manipulator" because of the honest review. I was originally going to write that the gore system is kinda neat albeit over the top, but wow. I absolutely cannot recommend this game at all considering how condescending the dev is towards everyone that reviews this in an honest light. Do not buy this game, even if it's on sale it's still heavily over priced. TL;DR : The game is bad, almost bordered meh, but then became horrible simply because the dev hates anyone that reviews it and gives it a bad review. Save your money for something thats playable AND has less toxicity internally.

"Putridness" truly is putrid as of right now. I "e x p e r i e n c e d" this with the Valve Index, so you don't have to. The menu: The menu where you start off is a small room with a table and a red ball. You place the red ball into the square/level you wanna play like a child at a daycare. The Tutorial: The tutorial shows you just how badly the game is made for the valve index. You walk not by the thumbstick, but by the FUCKING TOUCHPAD USED FOR SCROLLING! You enter a room with 2 doors, one which can be unlocked with a key which after unlocking it breaks off (which I thought wasn't a bad design choice.). Inside the next room you find a (what I assume to be) makarov and the game tells you how to load and shoot it. To exit the tutorial you have to shoot yourself in the head. The shooting range: The shooting range had a decent start, showing off the many weapons you get for it being EA. The problem? You can't use most of them if on index. You can use the PP-91, makarov and an AK, the rest are impossible to reload or even use. The mosin outright refused to load despite it being a stripper clip. I shot a couple bottles and zombies and noticed another flaw: the zombies themselves. The zombies when dead, sometimes still moan around and even damage you if you get too close. I just shot myself in the head to get to the hopefully good part. The office: I woke up in a 2/3 textured room with a too big skybox outside and saw a zombie peacefully sleeping on the floor. As I walked around the room at a snail's pace, the zombie awoke and simply walked out of the room, taunting my speed. I followed after with a chair, seeing as the room I was in had no weapons and spotted another zombie on the floor. Before I could even enter a different room, the first zombie returned from his coffee break and attacked me! I viciously slammed my chair against him 6 times before dying from 3 hits. Also the zombie gore is decent-ish, but blood textures are on an odd layer which means any zombie over a blood puddle will have blood move around oddly. Is it worth 9.99€? No. Will it be worth 9.99€? Maybe. The game just came out, so judging it harshly is a bit of a dick move, but releasing a game into EA in this state is an insult to the player.

I have to give credit to 'Putridness' where it is due. This really is the biggest mess of a game I have played in a long time! While I expect issues with any Early Access game this game is a broken, mess of a game that is so full of glitches and issues that it is pretty much unplayable. It also says the game is "room-scale" only and requires at least 2m x 1.5m play area. That is simply not true and you can play it sat down on a swivel chair because there is no snap turning, but it does have full locomotion. It doesn't matter that I couldn't even start the game in the first try anyway because the stupid selector ball vanished (see gameplay video) or that I couldn't even get the gun to load, what matters is that this game will never be worth £9.29 unless it was remade with a lot more effort in terms of graphics and content. This is not a game anyone should be recommending at the moment, but maybe after a lot more work (and a MASSIVE price drop) it will be worth a look. Gameplay video - https://youtu.be/hE7fKlImccE
