The latest game from Strange Scaffold (developers of "El Paso, Elsewhere"), I Am Your Beast is an action packed addition to the first person speedrun genre. The player run speed is really fast, and makes the game feel absolutely breakneck at points. I'm not sure exactly how, but it seems like there are some aim-assisting features built into the game to make sure that close misses still hit. Its done in a way that makes you feel like a much better shot than you actually are, without being super noticeable or distracting. The game's primary gameplay loop is: kill a guy -> pick up his gun -> shoot it until you run out of ammo -> throw it at the next guy -> take his weapon -> etc., in a way very reminiscent of Superhot. The constant switching between weapons keeps the gameplay feeling super fast and frantic. I also really enjoyed the sections in between the levels where I got to hear from the protagonist, Harden. None of these story sections have majorly important plot points. Instead, they serve as charming little in between moments to catch your breath, and the individual lines of dialogue are written and performed very well. The only part of the game I really didn't like was the challenges. The challenges are alternate ways of beating levels, which could have worked quite well. In practice they end up being very irritating because there is no time pressure to complete them fast. This makes it so the best way to complete them is to go slowly, which is less fun to me. (9/10)

Great gameplay, beautiful story, gorgeous soundtrack, amazing voice-acting. Genuinely a 10 out 10, it's honestly really enjoyable in a lot of ways <3

Easily one of the best shooters I've ever played. The feel of rushing through each level, refining the path you take just for a chance of gaining an S rank is exhilarating. While the story is fairly basic, with everything being told through audio logs the voice acting and the personality of the characters make it work. Fair warning, the game expects you to A and S rank some levels to be able to play all of the levels (especially the challenge levels), but doing so is just so much fun that I don't even consider that to be a negative.

stomp, crush, throw, shoot, explode and generally murder ur way to murderfree libertarianism
+ our protagonist dislikes the government
+ our protagonist like birds
- dunno what the point of the optional challenge half-dogs is
- values of different murder (e.g., explosion > headshot) could be clearer but once learned the progression is smooth.. could have some 'review your run' insights
+ music is good. called me a b*tch at one point.
+ storytelling, exclusively through dialogue, is entertaining and polished.
- can't alt-tab out of the story's focus = ADHD players persecuted
+ game did not give me carpal tunnel
- environments could be more varied
- sometimes lagged input on sprint, which hurts in a timed run game

A lot of people (rightfully so) liken this game to a first-person Hotline Miami. I'd also compare it to Neon White, a similar first-person speedrun-type game with cheesy, on-the-nose dialogue. I'm also a BIG fan of both.
With immensely satisfying movement and gunplay, an electrifying OST that turns the adrenaline dial up to 11, really good voice acting, and a surprisingly compelling story (alongside a brewing romance with a man in a helicopter, babe), I Am Your Beast is without a doubt one of the best releases of 2024. I cannot recommend it enough.

A good game, just not my particular brand of BS. Only not recommended if replaying levels to get the best time and stats doesn't really appeal to you. Its just not my thing as much, but if you're into a 'speedrunning' type of game it definitely seems solid. Just not really for me, preferred their other game El Paso, Elsewhere.

this is genuinely one of the best games ive ever played. the gunplay, the movement, the story, the voice acting, the music, its all top notch. this game makes you feel so powerful. and that last level of coi support group was so so so good. i replayed it multiple times right after finishing it. i was hesitant about this game at first i got it on sale for 14 bucks but saw it wasnt a very long game and while i do really wish it was longer i would pay the full 20 dollars and more without a doubt. i really hope the developers make more with this IP.

This game was quite fun to play through, one thing for sure is that the MC is definitely off his rockers. I commend how well the dialogue scenes are recorded, being able to tell a story through just audio logs is very impressive. In fact, that might be the most impressive thing about the game all together, very natural interactions between the fictional characters in their audio logs. Some AAA game companies could benefit from this...

They weren't lying this really do be hotline miami in first person except you're a supreme badass
For real though, this game is SO fun omg. Everything from the soundtrack blaring adrenaline straight into your bloodstream to the X's that wipe out enemy heads when you get a kill is *visceral*. The story is literally told through words flashing on a basic background, but the voice acting and the characters GENUINELY make it all back up and then some. You just can tell they had fun making this. It's wonderful.
I love that most of the levels are designed to not be linear yet still guide the player forward, it feels natural to go move through your rampage and that's pretty rare to see! Different types of kills give different time bonuses which contribute to your rank at the end, so you'll be finding yourself tossing a bear trap at a mf, shooting down a beehive to sting three more, and kicking the next dude off a cliff all in the span of 2 seconds. I love it.
