One of the best indie games i've played. It's kind of like Resident Evil, but not really. Please buy this.

Nightmare of Decay is a very good and simple horror action game and a good resident evil clone; okay let's talk about the story. A young man is at home watching the news about the recent disappearance of a young woman who vanished without a trace just like the other 10 people before her, the only common link to them is that they all suffered from nightmares. The young man can relate as he too has been suffering from nightmares, figuring that watching the news is only going to make his nightmares worse he decided to have some dinner and go to bed, but after laying down to sleep he then wakes up in a strange Mansion filled with horrible monsters and the undead, but this doesn't feel like a simple nightmare as he must traverse the strange nightmare realm in order to escape.
Now let’s go into the likes, the gameplay is very good it's a simplified version of Resident Evil, solve some puzzles, scavenge for resources and fight monsters nothing too complicated while still being very enjoyable and a bit challenging for first time players. The weapons were good each one was devastating with their own feel, you get your standard pistol and shotgun, also a Magnum, but after beating/doing some challenges in challenge mode you get more. The puzzles are good nothing too complicated with very simple answers if you're paying attention.
The challenge modes was good although horde mode could be a bit of a pain, but I do like that there's an option to not have the cultists appear as they have weapons and if you're not careful they can take huge chunks of your health, anyway the challenge modes were a nice distraction after beating the main game, but there is a slight problem with one mode, but that’s for dislikes.
The enemies and bosses were very good each one had their own unique, but traditional looks, like there zombies and zombie dogs, but we also get unique bosses like haunted armor and one boss that was quite a funny reference to a certain movie. The graphics were very good with a great classic old school feel with its uses of colors, designs and overall aesthetic. The levels are good, the mansion is a bit diverse and simplified with each room being distinct that keeps you from getting lost.
The story was good, it’s pretty simple you're trying to wake up/escape from this nightmare, it also does a good job giving hints that there's more going on than this being just a simple nightmare like when you talk to the different NPCs and read the notes, the story does a good job in setting up for a future sequel.
The characters were good while there's only two real characters, the main character and a cat, with the others just being window dressing/just to give a little bit of back story on what might be going on they were still all very good. The atmosphere was good nice and spooky, while not being too spooky as you wander around the mansion for the first time playing the game and dreading what's around the corner.
The game also has plenty of very good references to other works of horror and other stuff like besides Resident Evil; we have character cameos from Silent Hill and one particular movie reference that I was quite surprised to see. The notes were good as it helped the game’s story and atmosphere while painting a picture of what might be going on. I also really like the price for the game its more than fair. Now is the game scary, honestly yes at least for the first playthrough, where you're wandering around and dreading what's behind the next room. Also the game can be quite gory, heck there's even an option where you can turn up the gore factor.
Now let’s go into the dislikes. There's nothing really to dislike about the game although I will say there was one bug that happened to me where the game just kind of crashed on me, but only happened to me once and that was during the escape dungeon mode. The hoard challenge could be pretty annoying especially with the dog enemies as they can be quite chaotic and run around. Now there was a problem with challenge mode and there's this mode called randomized mode where it randomizes items and enemies only problem is after beating it I was expecting it would unlock something like infinite health items or infinite something else.
Okay with that done Nightmare of Decay is a very good and simple horror action game and a good resident evil clone; it has very good gameplay, very good graphics and very good enemies and bosses. Now I definitely recommend this game if your fan of Resident Evil styled video games then this is definitely for you and I honestly hope the makers of this game do a sequel.

The game doesn’t really have an identity other than that it’s basically RE1 but in 1st person. And obviously significantly shorter and low budget. Still. Had a fun time. I beat this in one sitting.

very short and very sweet! last few sections felt somewhat tedious, but overall definitely worth the cost and a ton of fun

This game is a lot like resident evil 1. Its simple but highly enjoyable. Its like waking up in the depths of a nightmare and fighting through it. The ending was a surprise.

Well i just got this game last night as it has been on my wish list for a little over a year. i am a big fan of the Zombie genre so this was a must play game for me. The graphics weren't all that great but wasn't really horrible either. It reminded me of the old school resident evil 1 game on the original playstation. The controls were great and the game ran smoothly. This game should be listed as steamdeck verified as it plays great on the deck. The sounds in the game are great and really add to the horror element of the game. i am enjoying this game a lot. This is a must play for all you Zombie gaming fans.

This game is nothing short of a love letter to OG Resident Evil and other classic horror properties. The base campaign is short but sweet, but the unlockable weapons and games modes (like Dungeon Escape, Horde Mode, and a campaign Randomizer) adds a crap-ton of replayability.
Nightmare of Decay not only uses RE 1's framework of a haunted mansion, but takes elements from other sources like Blood, D&D, Silent Hill, etc. and brings them all together into a twisted, terrifying world of dark fantasy, survival horror where it all fits so seamlessly. Something that should feel impossible for a indie budget title, but they make it all work so well.
Best Thing About Nightmare of Decay:
-Mowing down monsters with the unlockable .45 caliber Thompson SMG. (Hello Chicago Typewriter).
-Also, the Holy Water in this game is basically a nuke in grenade form. It's *THAT* powerful, so use it sparingly.
Worst Thing About Nightmare of Decay:
-The giant spiders. Like the game series "Kill It With Fire", I can't kill these f**king things fast enough.
-Pro-Tip: There's one spider in particular you should save the Holy Water for. Thank me later.
Best 5 bucks I've ever spent, and this game seriously needs a sequel.
I'd be curious to see what a Nightmare of Decay 2 would look like in the style of RE 2. Urban Decay anyone?

First person resident evil. Clunky on purpose. Refreshing to play an old school feeling game, with all the modern bullshit around. Probably not everyone's cup of tea.

This game brings back the classic horror and atmosphere. You can tell the developer loves this genre and put a lot of love into this game. It scratches resident evil itch and childhood horror games I loved. Cant wait to see more from this developer and wish all the best.
