The Game Of All Time ∞/10
Plot:
It starts off with a charming little cutscene that explains the game's plot. Shrumblo, the blue robot, was going out on a walk as he usually does, but being the doofus that he is, he stumbles upon the lair of the red magical immortal Grumblo and enters it.
Gameplay:
There is no escape from Grumblo and his lair, so now your goal is to lure Grumblo into the moving spikes. Every time you do this, you get a point added to your score, and Grumblo gets stunned. The higher the score gets, the faster Grumblo will chase you. You also have the ability to boost with your rocket boots. The boost has a meter that will run out if you use it too much but will refill when you're not using it. The boost will also instantly charge when you get close to Grumblo. If Grumblo or the spikes touch you, you die. There are four spikes in the game. one moves like a DVD logo at slow speeds. One goes up and down at medium speed, one goes side to side at medium speed, and one goes around the borders of the room at fast speeds. There is an extra game mode that has two Grumblos instead of one, although in this one, only one of the Grumblos will get faster as you score points. The gameplay is really addicting and replayable, especially since there are trophies for you to unlock for each game mode. You get these trophies by getting a specific score. These scores are 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and I'm assuming that the last one is 100 since I've still not managed to get there yet. The game did an amazing job of feeling like an arcade game and is also simple enough that anyone of any age could pick up and play.
PC Requirements: Pretty much any PC could run this, and don't worry about having to wait a day for the game to download since the game size is pretty small.
Music: The music is public domain, but it still slaps though. I love the upbeat tune of the menu, representing how Shrumblo must've felt on his walk, and don't even get me started on the theme that plays once you start playing. The game's theme starts off with an epic piano and drums before the violin comes in, making everything sound complete. It truly represents the showdown between Shrumblo and Grumblo and how Shrumblo's fate is sealed, so his only goal now is to try to survive for as long as he can.
Character Design, Art Style, and World Building: Shrumblo and Grumblo's design can be summarized pretty easily. "Simple but effective". I think the reason for this is because of the childlike nature of the art style. The art style is really reminiscent of a children's book. It also explains why Grumblo doesn't appear as a typical demon but is still evil-looking enough to get the message around that he is a demon. The simple plot of the story also helps convey the idea that this is a children's book. The world-building is also very interesting. It makes you ask questions like, Why did Shrumblo decide to go a different path for his usual walk? Why does Grumblo want to be left alone? Who built Shrumblo? What kind of world is this where robots and demons coexist? Did Grumblo eat Shrumblo? These are the questions that keep me up at night.
Conclusion: Go buy the game.
