Checkpoint Nova Review – Pure Adrenaline on a Hoverboard Checkpoint Nova delivers exactly what it promises—and then some. From the moment you drop in, the game throws you into a silky-smooth, high-energy experience that feels like a love letter to pure fun. The movement is where Checkpoint Nova truly shines. You’re not just running and gunning—you’re flipping, soaring, and grappling your way through a battlefield in ways that make traditional shooters feel sluggish. Front flips, backflips, hoverboard tricks—it all flows seamlessly, making every fight feel like a high-octane action sequence. And with the addition of a grappling hook, mobility reaches a whole new level. Combat is just as satisfying. Whether you're mid-air, zipping through enemy fire, or pulling off insane stunts while blasting foes, Checkpoint Nova makes you feel like an absolute legend. The gameplay loop is addictive, and the freedom of movement ensures no two encounters feel the same. For the price, it’s hard to find an experience that matches this level of fluidity and sheer fun. If you’re looking for something fast, exciting, and unapologetically fun, Checkpoint Nova is an easy recommendation.

was a blast to play! I had so much fun with both the single-player and co-op modes. The gameplay is smooth and engaging, whether playing alone or with friends. The visuals are amazing, and the music really enhances the experience, adding to the atmosphere. Overall, it’s a game I’d highly recommend if you’re looking for a great time, whether you're flying solo or teaming up with others

Big respect for Greylock Studio and matt itself! Spasibo! Однозначно рекомендую, особенно в коопе с кем нибудь.

It doesn't feel like a movement shooter: it feels like a cover shooter where your cover is movement. My character may be zipping around the map at 200mph, but functionally I am turtling, playing defensively, trying to snipe out a weakened opponent or looking around for some health pick ups. It's a cover shooter where you don't have to take cover. If you want to be immune from all enemies and all of their attacks, simply look in a direction and press W with your hoverboard out. The enemies will fail to attack you in any meaningful way as long as you don't run directly at them. Simply skirt around the edges of any of the games many forgettable islands and you'll be immune. It looks like you are going fast and might trick you into thinking you are some cool skater cyber warrior but really you're just turtling. The trailer shows mixing up running and boarding but really you'll only be boarding. There's not really a reason to slow down to kill enemies. You may be more accurate, but the enemies can kill you very fast and you're never in any rush to kill enemies so why take the risk? Just keep circle strafing on your board and you will never die. There are enemies with hoverboards and enemies that can jump very high, but they are all so slow its barely relevant. They just drift along at a miserable rate, not even coming close to pursuing the player. The encounters and levels are pretty boring. I was playing this on hard mode with a partner. It throws a random amount of enemies at you until you kill a certain amount of them, and then the rest die. They just spawn in around the little island. There's no sense of progression or tension in enemy encounters. Sometimes you may run into some enemies pre-placed in dungeons and such but if you want to unlock any unlockable weapons you need to do these very lazy scans. At first I thought the big enemies were annoying, like these giant flying warships and giant robots. They only counted as one kill among 60, but took a huge amount of effort to do so. Its almost best to just ignore them. Then we figured out they have a weakspot ontop, and you can just one shot them with the grenade launcher. Well, thats hardly any better, now they are actually among the easiest enemies to kill. The game has a weird mood and fails to establish a compelling atmosphere. Unlike Severed Steel, which had a somber, mysterious cyber feel, this game has a...well I don't know. The dialogue takes none of this seriously, with the two characters on your side attempting quips, a mysterious alien voice that pipes up but isnt very mysterious or alien and is just kinda a normal guy, and the pure evil leader of the bad guys who again makes 'quips' about how evil he is. These are all just put around the maps in different logs. The log pop ups never go away, even when you have no more logs to read, so I felt compelled to constantly drop in on logs that would say 'No New Messages'. Uh, great. Why is it like that? So the game kind of undercuts itself. You're going around shooting bad guys. I didn't need crappy jokes to tell me to do that, you could have just skipped all this corny stuff and just let me get to it. The bad guys sound exactly the same as they do in Severed Steel, only instead of reacting in fear at the terrifying opponent they are faced up against, they say "Get ready for your hospital bill" or something. Like they don't even care they are about to die. Which is like fine I guess but these lines aren't funny. If they were funny, and established a comedic tone, then this would be a positive. Instead the game isn't funny, so its just kinda a big meh. If they couldnt do funny they should have kept it mysterious. He who opens his mouth removes all doubt, right? I'm being harsh, maybe, because the game feels like a step backwards from Severed Steel. Severed Steels unique one armed mechanic, lack of reloads, stunt mechanic, and score multipliers encouraged fast paced, aggressive, in your face gameplay. Copious amounts of slo-mo encouraged diving, wall running and backflipping. In this game slow mo is limited, and backflipping feels like a horrible glitch that should have been taken out. So instead of being aggressive and stylish, the best thing is to play defensively, with a tedious hit and run style. I think the game tricks people into thinking they are doing something cool just because the screen is moving very fast. This is the same issue with Doom 2016, too, an issue that Doom Eternal fixed. This is an issue that Severed Steel never had, but apparently the devs didnt realize it because they made the game a lot worse. The game lets you fast travel anywhere you want, so I don't know why its an open world game. The grapple hook board combo just isn't very engaging or skillful. More or less just look where you want to go and thats where you end up. The boss fights are okay, I guess, with a decent sense of scale, but it just makes me wish I was playing Jet Island instead. Also, why can you silence so many guns? Does this game even have stealth? Who uses them? Speaking of unlocks, the customization in this game is really bad. You get to stick a hat on your guys head, and all the hats look like really out of place unity assets. The game makes a "joke" about this, too, but, like, customization can be a really cool incentive. Dumb looking hats and random weapon recolors arent exactly doing it. The unlocks for the weapons are kinda cool, but limited. And you cant have any weapon you want in any slot, and some weapons feel better than others so why bother. Im sure my review wont matter since everyone seems to love the game at least on Steam, lol. But it falls flat for me.

This is an awesome, no bullshit game. Just plain fun, no slop or anything like that. 100% completed and I can confidently say it's worth playing.

Well made indie movement shooter. Great controls, great progression systems, great music and a lot of replayability! Holding shift + lmb while spamming the space bar has never made this much fun before! I also recommend 100%ing this game! Redoing the scans will take a small amount of time and the challenges are super fun, 'cause they are very varied and fairly challenging! (Please release the music on Spotify!)

Echo Point Nova is the spiritual successor to AirBlade. Players are given the choice of several character models with which to traverse an immense array of jagged, telekinetic landscapes. The combat is fervent and luscious, though the game would benefit greatly from the addition of guns, as using the pickaxe for every encounter can prove tiresome to gamers with more sensible palates such as I. The soundtrack for this game is one that will surely require you to get up and boogie every so often, in some cases causing you to fall to your death. Of the 4 difficulty options in the game, I found the hardest, titled "Super Nova" to be both satisfying and gratifying. The movement in this game is second to only some. You are allowed at moments of desperation to jump. The story will send shivers down your spine and keep you up at night. This game is best played with the lights on. In summary, Echo Point Nova is one of the best games of all time. Sure to give you your money's worth, and then some, but not too much.

I just "finished" this game (all scans, final boss) and all I want is more. I will be checking out the workshop levels to get my fix. I'm old and chewed up and bitter and games don't often grab me like this one did. It's a must buy. If they hugely expanded it (10 hours for me being relatively thorough, not completionist) and put loot in it it would probably be GOTY.

Game isnt concerned with having a detailed story or being 100% polished, and thats perfect What here isnt much and it isnt entirely original, and thats perfect too The game's movement and shooting mechanics are just stupid unfiltered fun, there's no walls or barriers (except one) keeping you from exploring the entire map right out of spawn, and the soundtrack is a kickass mix of calm ambient and exciting jungle/house combat tracks

It's like they took everything fun about movement in a game and mixed it with everything fun about shooting in a game and cut out all of the boring filler crap and now we just have these incredible vibes to scoot and shoot around to
