One more run and it ends up being 3 a.m. A simple game: you move your character, choose weapons, upgrades, and that's it. I love the music and the art style. 100% recommended.

An incredibly simplistic game that always surprises you with a new twist on its premise. Really, all you're doing is just moving around the map, but it manages to give a feeling of progression that feels great to play.

Very great for brain-rotted individuals such as myself. "Weapon be weaponer. Flash go faster! Make more boom bigger." Don't worry, this game's got you. Be careful though, because it's addicting.

Usually a just one more run type game is at most 5-10 minutes. Somehow this game does that with 10-20+ minute runs. How is this game only $5?! There is such a massive amount of content and stuff to unlock it’s insane. I didn’t even get the DLC. It puts AAA games to shame. I can see how people can put 100 hours into this. I played 30 hours in one week. Normally I get under 10 hours of gaming in a week. Around 10 hours in I had most of the early game unlocks. So I spent hours looking into what else I needed to do to get more stuff and oh boy I found out that most of the rest would take a lot of time. Not the kind of busy work like grinding in a JRPG. This item needs these 5 things to unlock. Those 5 things each need some things to unlock. At that point I decided to pick a few items I could reasonably get and work on those. Jump ahead 10 hours later and I got a bunch of stuff that I thought there’s no way I could get. At 30 hours I got even more stuff that I thought I couldn’t do at 20 in. This game even has cheat codes that can unlock most stuff in the game. Not microtransactions, real old fashion cheat codes! It’s late game before you can unlock it. It feels cheap to use so I only used it a few times. Of the three times I used it, I went back and did it the right way for the achievements. It’s more fun to unlock the stuff the right way. I need goals to play a game. Just typing a code takes away the goal of working for the thing. There’s an entire other game inside this one. The Adventure mode is separate from the main game and is really hard. At 37 hours I feel like I did all the big stuff. I finished the 1.0 collection, all the standard evolutions and unions, beat the reaper, beat the five main stages with my two favorite characters, beat the final boss and got the Greatest Jubilee. There’s a few other bonus stages and characters to unlock but at this point I’m ready to stop.

I discovered this game after hearing about it on the Trash Taste podcast/YouTube channel. Connor was talking about how he got his Dad hooked on it. I'm not sure how old his father is, but I'm 55 and I grew up having some of the best consoles from the 1980s on. I watched some trailers for the game, along with some YouTubers playing it and it looked good to me. After having played this game for 15 hours now, I have to say that I'm really enjoying the old school feel that this game has. I've bought two of the DLCs so far and they're just as great as the rest of the game. I'm really glad that I bought this game.

honestly this game is peak, and i wasn't sure how i'd feel going into it for the first time, but this game was surprisingly pleasant. i'm not really sure how the upgrades work, it didn't let me select my own upgrades, so i kinda just let the system select them for me. gennaro is a pretty fun character since he gives you the extra projectiles, i was struggling at first with antonio, but once i unlocked gennaro the game was pretty fun. the enemies are pretty fun to fight, most of them look pretty similar and have similar attack functions, however, the game spawns a lot of them, and if you don't properly use your WASD keys, you'll quickly be overwhelmed by the sheer amount of mobs. now granted, the game does all the shooting for you, your only job is to literally just move and get powerups / weapons, which I think is fairly simple for the most part (aside from the times where I can't get a heal to save my life). so yeah, idk what else to say besides this game is great, and i highly recommend it if you like fast-paced top-down pixelated roguelikes with no objective, the only goal is to kill, and i'm all for it. 10/10. edit: this game is awesome, just had my first level 50+ run on stage 2 and it was absolutely phenomenal! unlocked hyper mode for stage 2 as well. the evolved upgrades are very good, and one thing I noticed about this game is how really every upgrade is decent or good when leveled up. i guess that's one of the great things about vampire survivors is how every upgrade, when leveled up properly, feels pretty equal; there's literally no upgrade in the game where i'll sit there and be like "man this upgrade stinks," nope, they're all great. although i will say, the whip and the lightning strike when fully evolved are probably the best upgrades in the game. the laurel is really good, and the upgrade which makes you heal 0.2 health is also super good. but yeah, just wanted to edit this review since I feel like i'm finally starting to understand the game more.

"i'm running 8-hour shifts on VS don't judge me" - me, probably Vampire Survivors is not a new game, nor is it an unpopular game - with a truckload of content that I've barely even begun to tickle the pickle of the surface of, Poncle created a game that is massively addictive and hits the dopamine receptacle like a Thursday night alone with your left hand. What is, essentially, Castlevania but a survival game with over 50 characters to choose from and an outstanding number of cultural references and some surprisingly interesting lore, Vampire Survivors runs on a very simple premise: Survive for a period of time, die, rinse and repeat. But there are so many unlockables, so many challenges, so many things that capture the fancy of anyone looking for a good time for what might constitute a whole freaking day of work for some. Vampire Survivors actually follows a similar formula to the Binding of Isaac, Brotato, and other games, but it uses the formula and references numerous horror franchises while playing into meta-humour and adding an undertone of the creepy that will scratch that needed scare itch. I think there are certain jokes and references that might go over your head if you're not Italian (I'm not Italian, I'm a garden gnome with a Steam library) but the game keeps things refreshing enough to keep you fixated for long enough to both challenge yourself and reward yourself. I think the reason VS has done so well is because it doesn't preach to the player, it has a pretty dedicated dev, it doesn't try too hard with graphics but instead focuses on retro vibes while supplying an incredible soundtrack and keeping things very vibey with a solid gameplay formula, and the game is a testament to the age of dopamine drips (not a bad thing, more an observation). I was recommended this by a friend. I now despise that friend for giving me a new addiction. 9.5/10

You know that feeling when you say “just one more game” and then realize you’ve got to be up for work in a few hours? Yeah… that’s Vampire Survivors. It’s got this ridiculously addictive loop where all you’re doing is moving and picking upgrades… but somehow your brain’s in overdrive, engineering the perfect doomsday build. The game fires your weapons for you, so you can focus on weaving through swarms, grabbing clutch upgrades, and watching your power spiral out of control in the best way. Endless unlocks—new characters, weapons, stages—constantly tempting you with “just a little more power”, win or lose. And the best part? No shady microtransactions. No battle pass. Just pure “pay a few bucks and go nuts” fun. Retro vibes. Banger soundtrack. Hidden stuff tucked away in every corner. Vampire Survivors is dangerously addictive, stupidly cheap, and way more strategic than it looks. Buy it. Play it. Lose track of time. Thank me later.
