From the terribly shallow surface this game may seem like just another pixelated indie platformer, but underneath the basic presentation is a gleaming treasure trove of brilliantly-made levels that feature intuitive layouts, fun level gimmicks, a surprising amount of charm and theming, and (most importantly) tight, satisfying platforming.
Switching between black and white is such a simple mechanic to base the entire game around, but Cat Box Paradox manages to make full, extensive use of it, resulting in later levels feeling like a brilliant dance of frantic colour-switching splendor. It's extremely impressive to see just how much mileage is gotten out of this one simple mechanic.
Ontop of the confident simplicity of the levels themselves is also a few extra challenges, mainly completing the level without getting damaged once (which is simple but genuinely hard to do sometimes), and collecting the elusive Mons. There's only one in each stage, but they're hidden in genuinely clever spots that make for fun and challenging detours. And to fully complete a level, you'll have to do both at once, and despite all the frustrating hiccups that you can make, I never feel mad about replaying stages to perfect them when the stages themselves are so well-built and fun.
In conclusion, the reviews don't lie. This is seriously a hidden indie GEM, and while it can be recommended to just about anyone who likes platformers, I think die-hard enjoyers of the genre will get the biggest kick out of the ingenuity and challenges of this one.
