I really enjoyed this game! It's an isometric 3D platformer that's heavily inspired by Sonic 3D Blast. The game feels very fun to play once you master the controls and all of the stages have lots of branching paths to take for those that like to explore, do the various objectives, or even speedrun.
Despite that there are some issues with the game that some people may have:
There's not much of a plot and it's very basic. You only get a cutscene at the beginning and the ending of the game which in my opinion is fine for the type of game that this is; but others may have an issue with this. There is no explanation for who you are, the world you live in, the main villain and their motives, etc. It is mostly left up to the players imagination.
Works great on the Steamdeck but there is no cloud save support so you can't seamlessly play on both the Steamdeck & PC using the same save file.
I'm personally not a fan of the special stages having the retry option locked behind how much you were able to fill the bar before failing. The option should be there from the get-go or not at all. One of the special stages in particular was very difficult for me and it was frustrating spending an hour going back and forth between clearing the normal stage while having to grab the collectibles and then failing the special stage if I didn't collect enough orbs to meet the retry requirement.
I think the $20 price tag is a bit too steep when I take a look at this game and compare it to other indie 3D platformers and the amount of content they have. For example on a first time playthrough Spark the Electric Jester 3 feels fine at $25 (5-7hr base game + 1-2hr post game) and VIVIDLOPE (6-7hr for just the main campaign) at $10 is incredible. $15 feels much more appropriate for the length and content despite this being a well polished game. The game is roughly about 3-4 hours long provided you can adapt to the controls quickly and you're aiming to clear all of the special stages on a first time playthrough. After beating the game I did a very casual speedrun of the game on hard mode and beating the game again while doing the bare minimum (no special stages) took barely under an hour.
I really wish there were more content. The last few stages had awesome level design and aesthetics and the final boss was SO cool it left me wanting more. I don't really have any gripes regarding the gameplay or the level design. It's very fun and it feels great to play once you master the controls as I mentioned in the beginning of this review. I'd love to see a sequel or post-game content added and It's a shame this game flew under everyones radar including my own. I would easily recommend this game on a sale.
