The 78-79% rating surprises me. This is so much better than that.
I enjoyed the combat, and while I kinda just used one weapon type the whole game and that got repetitive I could have changed it up to multiple different weapon types to change things up.
Difficulty felt amazing to me when playing on the highest one available.
Main story is fully voiced!
The art and graphic is fantastic.
World is very big, but easy to get lost in. Luckily the game has a very good map. Can get frustrating going back and forth long distances for quests and trying to find all items if you're a completionist tho.

is a nice game, the dash takes a bit to get used too because it doesn't have iframs to it but you get used to it. 8/10

The game is great, nice story, some bosses can be beaten in under a minute, whilst others require skill as you can't over level for them.
I enjoyed the story so would recommend.

The easiest thing to notice is dedication and investment put into the game. The story is excellent, with information scattered all around the world from books, checkpoints to NPC dialogues. The background is stunning, the music is charming. All NPCs are also well-designed, each with unique characteristics. English and Japanese dub sounds vivid.
Gameplay is fast-paced with many weapons to choose, each offering unique play style. You can cancel almost every action animation with your dash, which makes combat feel smooth. The game does not force you into go a predestined route, you can freely roam around and eventually will reach the main quest. However, movement feels a bit awkward since this game does not allow canceling a dash with a jump
The biggest complaint about this game (this might sound contradictory) is that its map is unnecessarily enormous. This is a metroid, but its metroid elements are... hmph... The word "poorly designed" is not suitable here, maybe I will say it is unsatisfactory? You know in this game genre, you need certain traversal ability upgrades to reach a locked area. However, the huge map makes this experience quite painful. It really feels like left-shift click simulator (just spam dash till u get to your destination). I just hope this game provides better horizontal movement skill and a minimap when I try to complete all achievements. And even after obtaining all traversal abilities, you still might not be able to travel freely without worrying about something might block your path due to some one-way passages
That said, if you’re not a completionist, you can easily overlook the downside I mentioned

So... I absolutely wouldn't recommend this to everyone.
Damn the story is convoluted
Damn the game feels polished yet unpolished at the same time
Damn the anime goes... anime.
After 100%'ing it, I think I finally understand the story, which isn't paced the best and calls a crucial story element "NG+" despite the fact its just a flashback. This could've been written better into the game. The game also never ever tells you anything about what you should do until you get to the absolute lategame, you just wander around and progress to the misty waters which is 5000 miles east. One of the more fun parts is not going east and suffering against higher difficulty enemies to get very strong weapons a bit ealier, then obliterating the lower level areas. Visuals are great but don't feel as lively/polished? I don't know how to describe it but everything feels very pasted together and stiff, relying on shaders/stretching animations to add some life to it all. Sometimes it works great, other times it doesnt. Oh also good luck making sense of what the importance is of your items and what they do because you're gonna get so many that you won't understand what door a specific is opened by a specific key.
The best part of the game is the combat. You can finally turn anime, you can turn into a beyblade, spin blades, throw projectiles from a sword, swing a scythe, do a whip dance in midair, go full lightning slash beserk anime mode... basically this game has it all in that department, and then lategame you can turn into the master of muscle memory as you obliterate anything that stands in your way. The bosses can give you a proper run for your money, but this is mainly later on since you don't get dash iframes until the lategame and the normal difficulty can feel a bit lackluster.
If you crave for a metroidvania and you've gone through the first picks, then there is afterimage to sate that hunger.
oh also the game crashed sometimes for me 💀💀💀

Fantastic game, slick controls and fun. Bosses could've been harder TBH. Castlevania SOTN vibes.

Afterimage is an amazing experience for the Metroidvania lover. I'm just shy of 100% completion and have put well over 40 hours into the search thus far. This game is a great way to immerse yourself in an interesting world full of beauty and mystery and it boasts a massive roster of varied and interesting boss fights to engage with along the way.
While at times it might seem as though it could be "too big" as you're uncovering new areas several hours in, it never seems to outstay its welcome nor does it lead to exploration or back-track fatigue that some other longer MVs might have subjected you to in the past. The world is genuinely engaging to get lost in, and the combat and movement are smooth and great fun.
Do note that there is very little hand-holding and you can proceed very non-linearly through this game, which can seem a bit puzzling at times. For me, though, this is a huge plus. I love when a game lets you just do your thing.
You owe it to yourself to give this game a shot if you're even remotely interested in the Metroidvania genre!

This is probably my favourite metroidvania game after Hollow Knight. I keep coming back to it and have done 4 full play throughs so far. Apparently I've played it for 217 hours. I must have left it open by accident a few times. I hope... I think those numbers speak for themselves.

Super fun game with an enormous world map (at least compared to similar ones of the genre), excellent visuals and music and satisfying combat mechanics, especially since there are multiple different weapon types to try out and learn. It takes a while for the game to pick up given the size of the world and amount of stuff to do.
Boss fights are fun and satisfying to learn and the movement tech is crisp and enjoyable. Game can be fairly easy or quite hard depending on what level you are in certain areas, but it's certainly possible to be over-leveled and curb-stomp bosses. I think I beat over 50% of the bosses on my first try, since I like to explore and was relatively higher level than expected in many places. But on the flip side, I faced a lot of bosses when I was quite underleveled and those took several attempts.
Overall, excellent game -- highly recommend playing this if you are a fan of the MV genre.
