As somebody who absolutely fell in love with Void Bastards, I was expecting more from Blue Manchu. I wasn't expecting this to be Void Bastards 2 or anything like that, but it's severely lacking in the love and care that made Void Bastards such a great game. The combat here is very awkward and lacks any kind of strategy because you're just shoved in an open area filled with a bunch of enemies who are just as likely to get the drop on you and have you half dead before you can spot them as you are to actually spot them and get some bullets in them. Then there's the roguelike mechanics which aren't very flushed out, especially since you loose any equipment you find when moving between sectors, and each sector/planet is largely the same with very little variance in what you get or what kind of fights or strategies you use. You go in, pick up a couple of things, and then get out with all that you pick up disappearing not much later. Finally there's the story and characters. It feels like they wanted to try and make some kind of story for this game, but there's basically nothing there other than that they want to get to a place called the 'Homestead' that's never explained upon, and that there's some guy that wants to kill mutants and aliens for some reason. There's a whole system where some people like others and get bonuses from pairing with them, and some can't be paired together, which would've been a cool aspect if you couldn't just use one of your resources to completely rewrite everybody's relationship with each other. Not to mention that there's basically no actual 'character' to the characters and they barely ever interact with each other aside from a few short lines whenever you get one of the few cutscenes in the game. Overall it was a relatively uninteresting game with little to provide in terms of both gameplay and story, and if you're like me and love Void Bastards for its interesting mechanics and strategic gameplay, this likely isn't the game for you.

This is a great game that I can recommend to anyone. Everything is great here, gameplay, art design, plot, characters, etc. I spent many wonderful hours playing Wild. It's hard for me to even say which is better, Wild or Void. I'm waiting for new projects from Blue Manchu!

It's fairly different from Void Bastards, but I'd say it's as a whole it's just as great! It does feel less variable which does make it less likely to run into impossible fights unlike Void, but it does end up being a lot of the same after awhile. In general it's definitely much easier since I was able to finish all of the challenges/hardcore modes, unlike in Void which is harder but also much more of a rougelite

Incredible blending of strategy layer and FPS game play. Style and visuals are exceptional, as you would expect from this team. Over the course of the campaign you will learn and love 13 different characters, providing immense variety as you approach different combat scenarios. Highly recommend.

I wanted more Void Bastards, and that's not what Wild Bastards is : It's a whole new game that shares some DNA with its predecessor, but I had a wonderful time completing it all the same. The main campaign does a great job ramping up the difficulty and introducing new enemies and characters. It also forces your hand in not relying on the same characters, which may feel frustrating at times. The challenges are short and sweet and numerous. The procedural campaign on the hardest difficulty is the final test of mastery.

I really loved this! A great follow-up to Void Bastards. The gameplay is great and is as good as Void Bastards. The art direction is incredible and is as good if not better than void bastards. The general gameplay is just plain great. Instead of surviving on a series of ships you are shuffling the different abilities of the bastards that you have available as you progress. At first I was frustrated because of how different it was from Void Bastards but then I really got into the groove. It is extremely well balanced and fun. The different characters are amazing and have much different play styles. It is just so well balanced that I always felt like I had options. I really enjoyed it. The overall story is just as good as Void Bastards. I always felt compelled to move forward. As I said above the art direction is incredible and the graphics are just perfect for what it does. I love this game and will buy whatever this company puts out in the future.

rougelite fps with space cowboy theme voice acting really make character like-able even though there's no animation only halfway thru but i'm already tired with the gameplay, each sector we rescue another space cowboy still a cool game though memorable

Annoying and not even close to the same standards as it's predecessor

I do feel bad about giving this a negative rating, but really thinking about it honestly, it just baaaarely makes the cut. The art style is great; especially the character designs, which feel straight out of some early 2000's cartoon like BTAS or Ben 10 in the best way possible. there's an intangible perfection to almost all of these characters and i would love to see more art of them. Unfortunately, the gameplay is boring. imagine a level of classic doom that lasts two minutes but without any of the momentum or catharsis. you're given a wide roster of playable characters that you can switch between in an instant, but you can only use two in one mission at a time and besides whatever their weapon does, the only unique mechanic each character has is an ult. it's also a roguelike, but that doesn't really add much and in the main just means that you're playing through the same repetitive levels every time you die - (which, to be fair, won't be happening much anyway.) it's disappointing because these characters, this setting, and this art style are all so good, and have so much potential if applied right. but to me, it doesn't hold up conceptually when the gameplay is as bland as it is. is wild bastards a terrible game? no. is it worth your time or money? ...probably not.
