Great fun! If you enjoyed the gameplay, art style, and humour of Void Bastards, you will love this game. The concept is simple - it's just a series of deathmatch games combined with the elements of a board game. It was the characters and their banter that really won me over. Once you spend enough time with these outlaws, they really start to grow on you.

As someone who really enjoyed Void Bastards, I love this game.
On the first sector I was a little disappointed that it was all shallow death match style encounters with none of the raiding derelict ships that Void Bastards had. Well, there's no raiding ships but as new enemies, playable characters, and environments start appearing the game really picks up.
I'll update this later with more, but consider giving this one another chance.

For me, the game was good, with great character design and initially a good gameplay loop.
Sadly, this game has the same problem as Void Bastards: the content in the later levels doesn't add enough to the loop, so you end up getting bored.
It's good that the game lets you pick, customize, and build your team, but you’ll end up using the same overpowered characters over and over again.
To summarize, the story mode should have been 60% shorter and should have imposed gear and character choices at first, so you could familiarize yourself with the game — and only then let you do what you want.
But that's just my opinion, and I still enjoyed the experience.

To be fair, the first half an hour felt "meh" because the game needs a lil while to ease you into it all. But now Im hooked.
If you played Void Bastards, this here is a little different, though the combat is very similar.
You get a selection of characters with different playstyles (for example a gunslinger with decoy ability, a shotgun guy who can make enemies explode, a fire bomb guy etc) and you can level them up and give them "mods" to boost their abilitys.
Different enemy types with different strengths and weaknesses, and audio cues to help you locating them.
But, instead of going through ships room by room, you are in one big arena. That can be a Wild West style town with a bunch of small buildings, or a bridge in the forest, or a fortress with sniper towers.
Outside of the combat there is a lot more complexity here. You navigate your ship through different sectors that resemble the map system in "FTL Faster Than Light". If you go to a planet-node on the sector map, you beam your characters down to a node-based planet map you need to navigate. Nodes here can be fights, loot, shops etc and ultimately the exit back to your ship.
The story serves its purpose, giving a little wild west flavor and giving the characters some background, but thats about it.
I recommend the game, and I think its great the devs are trying new things and not just a Void Bastards 2 :)
