Too Much for so little. The characters skills and abilities are so weak, you will lose a dude in two hits and never be able to revive them till the next chapter of the game. Making them have Feuds for no reason is another Poor decision by the Devs. No sneak or Hide function, makes all the enemies know exactly where you are at from anywhere on the very small maps. Enemies Never miss a shot, no dodge or dash so very slow gameplay. Nothing about this game is Fun, Maybe just maybe seeing the very lame design of bastards is worth one playthrough but i Promise you will not be back for more.

I love fps rougelikes and this is now in my top 3. The other two are Roboquest and Gunfire Reborn. I love the characters, their designs, the enemy designs, the voice acting, the fact they gave every different type of enemy a unique voice so you know who it is just by them shouting. The sound design is amazing too. Teleporting down to planets and equipping stuff just has this satisfying clink and clunk. I really liked the "boardgame" style planet surface. You can make groups of 2 bastards and run them in different directions, and you will be looking at road blocks (the actual fps parts), seeing what enemies are there, adjusting who pairs with who, what equipment they get etc. It's got that satisfying "min maxing" aspect. "This roadblock is a bunch of yellowbellies with shields so I'll take Rawhide (they can shoot through the shields). Behind that is a mind control satellite (converts some enemies to allies), I'm going to drop it on this harder roadblock with a ton of enemies. Then I can bring Hopalong cause the roadblock is all critters and Hopalong spawns a health pack for each critter he kills" etc. Then there's all the equipment mods. They can really help offset a bastard's weakness, or turn one's strength completely OP. Homing throwing knives? Check. 6 round sawnoff shotgun? Check. Explosive chain gun? Check. Chance to not consume the bastard's Ult on use? Give it to Smokey and constantly light everyone on fire. There's been discourse recently about good and bad character design, and this game has amazing character design. Every one of the 13 has a totally cool and unique look, weapon, personality, and ult. Space Western let them think of some awesome stuff. Smokey is a skeleton who's always on fire, and he fucking loves beans. Kaboom is a ghost who blew him self up and (you guessed it) throws dynamite as his weapon. Since he's a ghost, or living mist or whatever, he can float on water (which is usually poisonous), no fall damage, and his movement and sprint are silent. My favorite is Hopalong, a snake duke, with snake dreads, a silky gravely voice, and he uses a lasso. This lasso completely stunlocks an enemy and does intermittent rising damage till they die. Just make sure there's no others around since you're kind of a sitting duck (snake). But while your constricting them, you can still duck, and move slowly to reposition. I then realized I could use my prey as a shield which is always funny watching the enemies kill their own try to hit you. His ult is to stun all the nearby enemies so that can be used proactively or reactively, and then you can start killing the group of kyotes or whatever one at a time, even not worring about damage cause of the aforementioned health packs critters will drop. You will even start realizing good combos of characters, like Hopalong and Smoke. Smokes sets enemies on fire and they take dot damage, then you can switch to Hopalong and lasso them so their held in place taking that dot fire damage as well as the rising lasso damage. There's almost a kind of imsim vibe to the game as well. Enemies have hearing so you can sneak around, if shoot from hiding in the weeds, they'll shoot where the sound came from, a couple characters can convert enemies into allies, I've nocked enemies into the poison swap, there's a decent amount of destructible cover (especially in the last biome) so I've absolutely just unloaded with my bombs/Gatling gun/shotgun to clear paths and sightlines. The campaign was a fun story, and had some gameplay twists along the way. It went on a bit too long (I beat it after 25hr on medium difficulty) but that was probably partly my fault for exploring each planet I landed on 100% and then later waiting for the Princes to arrive so I could kill them for Infamy. I definitely want to go back and try harder difficulties or the challenge modes.

fun game completed it on normal glad to see newgame plus content. but the gameplay can get really repetitive and lack luster environment detail and most enemys perfectly track you which is super annoying espically the snakes when it comes to early levels where your heros cant 1 shot head shot them when playing on hard i had to reset the first stage a few times cause my health would just get 2 shot by snakes. at the end of the day nerf snake tracking please

It's a cool concept but the gunplay is just too clunky and really holds the game back in my opinion. The original void bastards was charmingly retro, this is clunky.

To the point ===================== Bad gunplay and worse controls in a neat looking package. Even on sale this felt like a shallow successor to void bastards, I'd avoid it. Good Stuff ==================== - I actually find the setting fascinating as a fan of westerns and sci-fi. I just want to play ANY other kind of game in it. Maybe a straight FPS with some thought given to the controls. Bad Stuff ================== - Man in the shooting awful. In my play time I played as 3 characters, the spider, the robot and the fire guy. All of them have the accuracy of the town drunk, swaying like crazy, with some of the most boring an ineffective specials. The first guy....dear god....I'm not even sure his weapon can kill enemies. If you're making an FPS, it's tantamount that the gunplay actually be fun and this is absolutely not. - There's simply no healing in the duel maps. There's some healing on the world map that you commonly have to go out of your way for but having no means of healing in the shooting sections makes everything pointlessly difficult. - The enemies do not die quickly, with them taking near as many shots from my pistol as my shotgun and don't get me started on the fire guy again, who is probably, bar-none, the worst FPS character it has been my misfortune to play as. HE GETS HURT BY HIS OWN FIRE! - Enemies vastly outnumber you almost right off the bat, with one planet 2 fight having FIFTEEN enemies. They're not particularly difficult but trying to kill them all with your wretched aiming and no healing? No thanks. - Nearly all the roaming enemies are fought on a big wide open plain with tons of weeds. I'd honestly prefer if I could just have all my guys get their health set to 1 then have to trudge through them and constantly get picked off by my psychic enemies who are aware of my position at all times. - Some of the obstacles and movement mechanics are just bizarre. You don't climb ladders, you *teleport* to the top. Super disorienting and will almost always give any enemies at the top a free shot on you. - You lose everything when your ship jumps between systems but there's an infamy stat that gives you handouts at the start. I'm not sure why they didn't simply let you accrue money for this but whatever. It's a minor gripe in a game filled with trash.

I've completed Void Bastards a few times and put about 6 hours of playtime into Wild Bastards. The new game is quite different, with no focus on stealth like the previous game. I've really enjoyed the game so far and found the progression to be really engaging. Unlocking new characters and using their unique weapons and abilities is fun as well as choosing which upgrades for them. I've found the board-game like strategy really fun with the various things you need to be considering. While the voice-acting and character designs are really unique and interesting, the story-line so far seems a bit too simple but it hasn't taken away from my enjoyment of the game. Looking forward to finishing my first play through and then hunting down as many achievements as I can.

Unfortunately as much as I tried to get into this game, it ultimately was not enjoyable for me and I regret my purchase. The gameplay loop is very repetitive and the combat never became as satisfying as I would have liked. The art style is nice and there is at least some character to the game - I just wish it was fun to play!

I do like the game but there were some really REALLY stupid parts in the game and it's game play loop would do better as a board game for the most part along with the fact that it being marked as a "spiritual successor" to Void Bastards feels like a long shot and almost a lie, as most of Wild Bastards game play is NOTHING like Void Bastard's game play.
