Slime's Journey is not an easy game to just simply recommend or not recommend. Its cute.....really cute....so if that is what you are looking for most of all, then this is the game for you. Obviously, if you are a "games must look like Metal Gar Solid and Mortal Kombat always" type gamer...you won't like the look. So you migght want to stop reading now and move to another page in the store. But that isn't what makes it difficult to recommend or not. The problem here is that it is a "Metroidvania" style game (feeling like it leans more to the Metriod side), but if you are looking for deep exploration and game longevity, then you are definitely in the wrong place. I tend to enjoy my games slow; usually playing for double the time of the average player to beat them. Within 38 minutes I had all but 4 of the achievements. By 1 hour and 53 mins, I had finished the game. Its short...really short. Now you can argue that a game like Super Metroid can be just as short as this...but not on a first play. However it is really fun, and I can see multiple plays for this one from most people. So that would definitely make it worth the price if you can squeeze 3 or 4 victories out of it. If not...proceed with caution. Also the attack takes a little getting used to. It isn't a standard beam attack...but more like bomb lobbing. Its a nice little change, but may frustrate some gamers until they get used to the arc and distance of the attacks. But here comes the biggest problem with the game: we mentioned it is cute. This includes the enemies...they are cute. In fact they can be so cute that they can blend into the background easily....especially in the 2nd boss's area. I ran into plenty of enemies and spikes not being able to see them clear enough. Also some enemies tend to run after you and stay on your space hitting you. It is more than annoying. But here is the real verdict for me as to why it gets a thumbs up: if you can get it on sale for a couple bucks..it is definitely worth it. It is fun...in a very retro early Metroid but cutesy way. Its not going to dethrone your top game of all time, but it isn't going to disappoint. So give it a chance if you have a couple bucks laying around. And for the record: #$%@ the snakes, dogs, and gremlins. But mostly #$%@ the dogs!

A little microvania. The whole game is about one and half an hour. NO stress here, even boss fights are going down with 4-5 bombs (10 seconds at max on normal). So, basically it is a metroidvania for kids. Even little kids, but for the fans of the genre it can be a little bit relaxing experience. Definitely a one euro experience on sale. I encountered no bugs, the controls are good, the bombs are hitting hard.

Cute mini Metroidvania. Nothing grounde breaking but Solid. Tight controls and sweet visuals. It is really very very short and bosses are also very easy to beat. But I found that quiet relaxing.

This was a fun little game. The visuals were nice, the game play flowed well. The only thing I can think might be an issue for some is it's easy and short. I took me about 2.2 hours to beat without rushing, but for the price it was very good. I would say if this was a real retro game it would cost over $20.

A pleasant, short (100% in <2 hours), cute little Metroidvania. Solid, too. It doesn't really break any new ground, but it doesn't need to - the controls, the difficulty, the art style, everything is pretty nice and comes together for a fun gaming experience. It's one of those games that don't generally care about genre conventions and just do things their own way - often this kind of mindset turns into a disaster, but here it works quite well. In particular the way your little slime grows stronger and stronger over the game is something I really liked. Your HP increases, yes, but also your standard attack gets nice little modifiers that turn it from a barely effective pebble throw to a ruinously powerful spreadgun of death, once you get all the upgrades. Oh, and I know I said this already, but it's just so incredibly cute. You can dress your slime up in little hats, you can decide your slime's colour early on, and of course the idea of being a slime on a quest to save their parents... I mean, come on. How can you not [strike]slime[/strike] smile? It's pure, it's tight, it's cute, it's just fun. I wish there were more games like this one.
