Great graphics, but gameplay is lacking. There's no indicator that anything is interactible - so I ended up backtracking a lot because I didn't realize I left core items near the start. You have a flashlight in your pocket - but you can't use it. You have to use a headband flashlight. You can't turn music off completely, just lower its volume until its low. Finally, the thing that annoyed me the most - there's a section where you have to jump, and the jump is so pixel-perfect, that I couldn't figure out whether I am even supposed to jump over there. I must've tried 10 times until I did it, and the only reason I did that - is because I went back and forth everywhere and figured there's nothing I can click on. Too much is too much. Good atmosphere, but I don't quite care to play it.

I didn't enjoy this game at all. The main reason for me is that there is no way to save the game and it must be completed in one playthrough. You also cannot remap the controls, the game starts Steam-VR, the reticle dot remains on-screen at all times, the fov is fish-eyed with no way to adjust, and optimization is also poor. I could not play in 4k resolution with an RTX2080 and i9 processor due to frame rate drops. 1080p does not look sharp and there are still frame rate drops in the snow area when approaching the main house. Adjusting the graphic options also didn't seem to change anything that I noticed. There is also a highly annoying stamina bar that depletes quickly and takes forever to replenish, which of course ruins the chase sequence. Turning combination locks is also a pain because you keep moving the entire time. There were also times when I apparently died for seemingly no reason and had to start all over. The entire experience lasts about 45 minutes and I didn't find the house scary at all. With this many issues, I cannot recommend this game.

Despite the different opinions about the game, which I can now understand in retrospect and in part, and also despite the argument that the game plays and feels more like an Early Access demo, I still wanted to take a closer look at Cold House . I knew that a currently rather unfinished game awaited me because of the reviews that had already been written. At the current time or let's say the current development stage of the game (Version 1.1.3) and that there is only one of three parts so far, I will also forego my star rating and my pros and cons for the time being. Based on the approximately one hour playing time for the first part, I hope that the further chapters will be included in the purchase price or that the playing time, gameplay and quality will increase significantly. I rate the game positive for the time being, because I think the idea and the concept are actually quite good and game developers should definitely be supported. That's why I think the price is still reasonable for what has been offered so far. I've certainly played games that were more expensive and worse. I'm curious if and what else will be added to the game. Accordingly, I will also change or revise this review. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2805880088 There is not really much to say about the current story (yet). Cold House, a first-person survival horror game, is set in Yakutia, a republic located in northeastern Asiatic Russia. After a car accident, because of the low outside temperature, the only thing that matters is finding safe shelter. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2805880110 Once there, you have to solve one or two puzzles and, above all, survive the night, because as it turns out, you are not alone... The atmosphere conveyed in the game can definitely be described as intense and you can also immerse yourself in it. Unfortunately, the previous puzzles are not really difficult and can be solved relatively quickly with trial & error. But what I really miss is that as a player you are not guided and there are too few explanations and / or hints. Also because of the large outdoor area, a map would be very helpful. Apart from the numerous (graphical) bugs that the doors cannot always and easily be opened, the interaction with the (required) objects does not always work properly or is fiddly, it is absolutely incomprehensible to me why there are always games , where you can not change the key assignment. Usually these are the games that I then immediately quit and don't even touch anymore. So buy or not? At this point in time, I would only recommend the game to players who really enjoy this genre and are willing to give the game and everything that might come after it a chance. I would advise everyone else not to do this at the moment.

PLAYED WITH: ⌨️ 🖱 🎧

⮩ VISIT ME IN MY LITTLE WORLD

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1639590/

To put the most glaring problems first: The gameplay is very janky, the sprint cooldown is insane and probably an artificial feature to increase game time, and the VERY precision-oriented platforming inside the house is very tone deaf. There's no instructions in the game in almost any way, so the way the game is meant to be played and what you are supposed to do is a guessing game. Not only that, but the game also has no hook or story to care about. At least, visually speaking, the visuals are pretty, but everything else is very, VERY rough. Now, about the other problems: The sound design is ok on the most part, but the footsteps sound effects in the snow section in the beginning of the game is painful to listen to. The lack of tutorials or even instructions of any sort (something that didn't change at any point in the game) made even finding the house where the game is supposed to be set a guessing game where "If you guess the wrong direction of which direction the house is supposed to be at, the punishment is having a stamina bar take like a whole minute to fully recharge, so THEN you're allowed to run for like 30 seconds". And it gets worse. Once you do find the house, what you're supposed to do at any time isn't communicated in any way, and that includes the "puzzle solving" parts, where the exploration is slow (because of the minute-long sprint cooldown) and the stuff (like images, phares, or any information whatsoever) that's supposed to be there to allow you to, you know, SOLVE the puzzle is just... off. It fails to communicate anything.

Atmospheric walking simulator in Russian deepland somewhere in Yakutia. Our protagonist's got in a car accident near an old wooden house and decided to spend a night where. A poor bastard. Before the sleep we have to solve few riddles to open doors in the house. And a couple of puzzles were okay, but vessels weren't's so easy to crack. Probably only for me. Thanks to a guy on YouTube, where I peeked at this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDr1VqQswaE The game extremely short. You can do it in less to 2 hours or watch video above instead of buying it. But for me, it was a positive experience. And the game's price is very low. So, you can buy it if you like simple indie horrors. The developer promises to add chapter two (yes, story isn't over) and coop mode (I have no idea how he wants to realize it). It is worth its price so I recommend it. Not the best representative of the genre, but not the worst too. P.s. You can find all my short reviews here

This "game" feel very unfinished, puzzles make little to no sense and the whole experience apparently lasts around 30 to 45 minutes (not that I've bothered finishing it). Additionally, the store page doesn't mention the coop option that is yet unavailable. Why not place the product in the "early access" where it belongs?

https://youtu.be/aDr1VqQswaE The game isn't brilliant but it isn't bad either. It will probably only last you around 30-45 minutes before episode 1 is all over, so keep that in mind before purchasing. The graphics and audio are the highlight here. They're generally pretty fantastic and lend a lot to the atmosphere, immersion and "feel" of the game. The environmental puzzles are a nice addition, although some could do with a little polishing up so they're easier to interact with. The inventory system is also a little clunky in that regard. The game isn't the scariest, but there are tense sections where you're under threat and those ongoing creepy sound effects aren't just sound effects anymore. If you're a horror fan, I'd say this is probably worth a look, but if not, this won't convert you.

This "game" is nothing more than a prologue as of now that is being sold for 4 bucks. The story is simple: As a car crash survivor you take shelter in a supposed abandoned house and the hobo dude living there ain't having it. It looks pretty good but the sounds are mediocre at best. My main issue with it is the lack of content for the price. Look at my gametime: it took me 40 minutes to finish this. Deduct 10 minutes from that, because it's the amount of time I needed to make one pixel perfect jump to progress. Another 10 mins for searching for the main house and the hunting shed. The remaining 20 minutes was spent on solving the 4 puzzles the game has to offer and the final encounter with the baddie. Even that was a letdown, because my nemesis got stuck on a damn chair ruining the supposed climax of the game. Before anyone tells you that this will get any more content, let me tell you that this game was released 1,5 years ago. It received one patch that added steam achievements and there was 2-3 minor bugfixes. All of them in the release month. Not a single update since then. The game supposed to have more "chapters" and an online coop feature. It won't happen. As of now I cannot recommend this one, it has a decent foundation, but I've played free teasers with more content.

I disagree with a lot of reviews that this game should be free. Developers deserve compensation for their hard work, but the problem here is that this is not a finished product, and this game needs a lot more work before anyone should be charging for it. One of the biggest issues is that the game does not save any of your settings (such as mouse sensitivity) as the game progresses. Anytime there is a level load or a cut scene, all of the settings reset and you have to go back into the settings menu and re-set everything, this also goes for any items that you had equipped in your inventory. This completely breaks the experience and makes it frustrating. Second, the game does a poor job at guiding the player and explaining how you're supposed to do things, this includes navigating the unnecessary large outdoor areas (padding anyone?) or clarifying what's needed to solve the (very basic but poorly explained) puzzles. I spent almost an hour trying to figure out the first puzzle, only to find that I needed another piece that was in a completely different building in a completely different part of the map. A simple tool tip or text indicating that "something is missing" would have easily prevented this very frustrating experience. I want to like this game because it provides good atmosphere and sound design, but it just feels very lacking in content and polish. Until they put more work into cleaning up some of the rough edges, I can't recommend buying this game.

I spent an hour in this game world walking around aimlessly in the snow, and then got stuck on a puzzle that makes zero sense. I saw the solution to the puzzle online, and people were solving it by accident. After the weird puzzle, a few minutes later the game basically suddenly ends with no explanation. 80% of this game is walking in snow, 15% is solving puzzles that make no sense, and the last 5% is anything exciting happening. This plays out like an Early Access game demo. It should be free with this quality. Wish I never bought it, asked for refund, my first refund request out of hundreds of games that I own on steam. Tired of getting scammed by these games with nice atmospheric screenshots, and then the gameplay is short and garbage.
