Action Commando is a Town of Machine spinoff focused entirely on combat. Hub-based world design, inventory management and most of the character interactions have been removed / de-prioritized in favour of fast-paced combat where your only concern is what's trying to kill you at a given moment. While it lacks the depth of Town of Machine, it works really well as a coffee break, action-packed, top-down shoot'em up. Unlike in its predecessor you don't have to worry about inventory space and quests - just go forward and blow things up... and it kind of works. The game is pretty short and unfortunately set almost entirely underground which makes the levels blend together but it's not that big of a deal considering its lenght. Give it a try if you ever feel like mowing down monsters for a few hours.

It's kinda fun. Like Town of Machine but more action-oriented and without an inventory. You also don't need to hammer down the E key in order to pick things up. There are downsides though.........
Like with many other games of this dev, the balance is all over the place. I kinda fail to understand where the fun is in having a room with a number of switches, only accessible one after another, and each switch opens a door and spawns a bigger and stronger enemy horde than the previous one.
This is rinse and repeat all over the game. At some point, the enemies are so numerous that they fill multiple screens while your space to maneuver is limited.
Enemies can and will shoot at you beyond your own visual range and generally tend to shoot a trillion projectiles your way, so have fun. Some of these are slow, but will follow you around persistently (yes they can turn 180°). Others won't follow, but are very fast and / or numerous. You can actually deflect them, which I guess is encouraged, but does not seem to work all that well. You just can't focus on timing the slash and aiming the slash, while dodging a bit, while evading the dozens of enemies, while maybe also shooting a bit (which obviously doesn't work well while trying to slash).
I started on Brutal difficulty (thought it's fitting, as I play most games on high diff), which is not the highest one. But after almost 3 hours, I am basically stuck. There's no way of me having enough ammo for this (see above), nor would I have enough health or armor pickups around in order to beat that without re-trying a million times. I uninstalled the game at this point, as the frustration became a little too much.
Try one of the first 2-3 difficulties and you may enjoy this from start to end, else you may end up like me.
It's rather cheap and I guess it's more fun on a lower difficulty. Recommending it is a bit of a struggle though at this point, so much that I'd wish for a third rating between Recommended and Not Recommended.

This is the action-only version of town of machines. Which is quite nice.
Takes about 4 hours to play through and has all the classics you would expect from a Paul-game.

I got hard locked on the second level where I couldn't find anything to open the doors and I was locked in a certain area. The levels I did play are very well crafted and were fun, but getting hard locked so early on isn't.

The game is fun so far. The art style is sleek and it's a responsive game. I like the sound effects, the lighting, graphics, etc. The level layouts are pretty good but I don't like the sections when you're walking towards the camera as you can't see enemies your character would otherwise be able to see. Fortunately, this didn't happen to me a lot, but it is something to watch for. I wish the dash filled up faster but otherwise a solid "top down" shooter.

While I realize I have not yet put much time into this game, I find first impressions can often be as informative to potential buyers as the more thorough reviews posted by 100%-ers and others who have completed the game. After playing through the first level, I am quite happy with this game. In terms of gameplays mechanics, it's a fairly standard top-down shooter. It's technically competent, boasting a tight-but-smooth comtrol scheme, high-quality albeit cartoony visuals, and good audio effects backed by energetic-yet-uninvasive music. In terms of design logistics, environment is well designed though interactive elements could stand out more. Character and weapon upgrade systems are creative but not overly complex, offering some depth without being overwhelming. Most important of all, after finishing the first level, I am very excited to continue. I stopped just long enough to throw down this review and now plan to get right back in the game.
Overall, I highly recommend this game to fans of the top-down shooter genre and anyone looking for an action-packed shooter that's easy to pick up but offers enough depth to keep you interested. If it's important to anyone, I purchased this game at a 60% discount, which might skew the perceived value of the product. However, I believe the game is in fact worth the listed retail price.

Game isn't as bad as the name makes it sound. Like really, that name is about as boringly generic as you can get. The game isn't half bad though. Gameplay and review/thoughts in video format if that's your thing: https://youtu.be/7glx8QB5K-c

Loads of fun. Good old skool type graphics, fluid control. For the price this is a must buy if you like killing loads of cultists but don't expect a cerebral experience, but do expect to have fun. Better than some so called AA titles I have played.

A well-crafted, action-focused twin stick shooter with a good dose of humour. It's a spin-off of Town of Machine that's set in the same universe. While it uses many of the same assets as ToM, it's more action-orientated and simpler to play.
Made by single person, its production values are excellent - gameplay, graphics, sound: all are top-notch.
It's worth playing Town of Machine before this, but not wholly necessary.

This game is fun af. Give it a try. You can't beat it for the price, it is WELL worth it
Great little game! Paul Schneider is a great game maker when he does his own thing and doesn't ask for opinions from anybody (Because he doesn't really want them anyway, and when he does listen he usually ignores his community and listens to randos that make one stupid comment on a youtube video and then he changes up the complete core mechanics of the game. He does better when he only listens to his own head and leaves the crowds noise out of it). But when he is in his own little world and doing his own thing with no bother from anybody else, He is a top notch developer. He developed the best mod for DOOM ever made, "UNLOVED" (you should definitely check it out on MODdb) as well as a few other games this way. This is how he should work. Another great little game by Paul. Props Blue! I will be playing this one all the way through!
If you continue to make games this good, I will buy every single one!
