I had a really fun time with this game until hitting a roadblock. I don't know if some of the files are corrupted, or if the way Windows accesses files has changed, but I am unable to complete the game. Restarted the game from scratch, reinstalled multiple times, nothing seems to help. Too bad.

Acolyte is a fantastic little ARG that unironically shows us a glimpse of what may lie in store for us in the future when it comes to interactive AI and machine-learning.
Albeit not the first, nor the most though-provoking game in its genre, it's a cute little game that has an interesting plot that slowly unfurls as you discover more information. The only downside is that it will inevitably date itself; many of its resources are hosted online, such as websites, blogs, audio files and more. Several clues are also found on Twitter (which is now X), and references to "Blue Birds" have already aged poorly. This will mean that in a few years, no doubt this game will be unsolvable without the help of a walkthrough, as many of its resources will likely cease to exist. Although a shame, it's part of the ever-changing nature of the internet, and the only way to avoid this is to have these things built into the game, which naturally provides its own challenges and may hamper immersion.
Nevertheless, the game plays incredibly well, it's short, and currently on sale for merely 2 bucks. I think it's well worth it for ARG enthusiasts.
