Honestly this game is great, the factory stuff isn't perfect but it works well enough, and the concepts are pretty fun and honestly the voice acting and music are great. I haven't finished the story but at almost 50 hours in I'm just hooked. The theme and story alone make this game stand out for me, even if the factory elements aren't super polished. Edit: I completed the game around 87 hours in, I will say that the last levels are very hard to progress (on default difficulty) which I know is a turn off for some. But I like to think of it as a final boss battle, making sure your factory is efficient and producing a mass quality of required materials and even messing up a belt can cause your whole system to limp which resets your progress. very quickly. I'll also mention that I had huge problems on PC with the hot bar, so I just used the 2 default bars because it was very clunky to swap between them. Also performance on max settings near the endgame was sometimes rough even with a very good system. I will say while this game isn't perfect. The price is good and the game play is acceptable with a refreshing story in a factory game. The first levels are the best by far, later on you NEED to be scaling up your production to beat the "final bosses" Out of all the factory games I've played recently this one will be very memorable, it's a shame the game company is gone.

I have done virtually everything there is to do and completed the final quest, and with that I feel I can give an informed review. Techtonia is a wonderfully complicated game of logistics, discovery, and tech trees. It is without a doubt in my top 5 PC games of all time, and that's saying something because I've played A LOT of games. I played solo and, if you aren't working with a team, it is a LONG game. At least 80-100 hours. At its heart it is about collecting resources and transforming those resources through chains of complicated actions done my machines (with the help of many, many conveyer belts and trams). There are no enemies and no health bar, but you will have plenty of things to worry about screwing up. There are a few hundred different items but only a handful of basic resources. Through excavating to deeper and deeper levels, and exploration of those new levels, you will locate story items and unlock technologies. It will get very tricky and sometimes you may feel stuck or overwhelmed, but that just indicates you haven't fully understood the technologies you have access to or haven't put in the time to organize your assembly lines well enough. I couldn't recommend it more to anyone who likes tech trees, manufacturing, logistics, and intensely rewarding gameplay. Ignore the people complaining about the change to the elevator - it's an entirely logical and very rewarding way to pace the progress.

Negative reviews are mostly old players unhappy with the game not being what they hoped, which is an early access sting thats hard to heal - I only recently picked this up and can confirm this is a cool factory game with some interesting ideas. Sure, the UI is pretty bad, and I've not finished it yet but believe the ending is likely rushed. But if you play games like Satisfactory and Factorio - then you will find that same "hooked in" gameplay here - word of advice, pretend you don't know what you're doing and don't jump right into trying to build a factory - the game wants to guide you for a while - just do as your told until it opens up.

I thought it was a great game. Until I got stuck... and found out that even in the discord it was really hard getting assistance. The devs don't have any more money and have stopped developing the game. SO I refunded it. Thanks but no thanks.

IF YOU LOVE FACTORY GAMES FOR THEIR OWN SAKE, YOU WILL ENJOY THIS GAME. but you probably won't finish it. overall it's fine, but it's just generally inferior to the greats like factorio or satisfactory. the biggest problem is that late game is more or less waiting around for stuff to happen with increasingly poor performance. i have a pretty strong computer and when i approach my main factory my fps drops to sub 30, which in current year is just unacceptable. there are pretty strong merits in the early and mid game. it takes pages from subnautica in story presentation, which was well executed imo. even with problems like certain resources having absolutely crazy rates of generation and others being severely limited, i'd still recommend this game. but the performance problems really cinch it. many people are saying the studio is dead and the problems will never be fixed, which is probably true. Please punish game companies for doing this. Do not buy.

This was a great game right up until the release, when they completely changed the core mechanics and completely whiffed it. If I could, I'd get it refunded. Cannot recommend. Such a shame and a waste of potential.

Game is abandoned, studio is closed and the dev's made a major change that divided the community and the ending was nonsense. I wouldn't play this game if they paid me to do so.

Techtonica is a unique factory-building game that takes place underground. Unfortunately the developers ran out of money and are no longer developing or supporting this game. The final release is technically complete but the last levels were rushed and unsatisfying with a lot of static exposition to finish the story. Also little or no optimization was performed for the last few levels so they are generally described as "a slog".
