I enjoyed this game more than I expected to. The art is very beautiful and consistent, and the characters are interesting.
What stood out to me, is that the female heroine in this game, is really the one who saves the male character. That was really refreshing to see, instead of the other way around, how she wants to be the one to protect him.
It could have used more work on the romance side, but the mystery/plot side is really good. I think it could be considered "Otome" genre, but if you're purely looking for a romance story, this isn't really highly-passionate. But the romance (assuming you get the good endings) is very light and subtle, at least the routes I've gotten, there is nothing as far as kissing, but it is cute. There seems to be two guys you could potentially end up with. I've only been able to find the way for one.
It is more interactive than typical visual novel-type games, because there are sometimes 2 types of mini-game that happen throughout the story. One is where you search for clue items around a room, clicking on points to find them or combining items, similar to classic point-click adventure games (such as Myst, The Longest Journey, etc). The other is an interrogation mini-game where you have to give the right responses or show the right pieces of evidence. The interrogation is more challenging since making mistakes takes up one of a certain number of chances (which running out of chances will lead to one of many bad endings).
You also do need to be cautious which choices in dialogue to make, because some will also lead to a bad ending. It isn't so bad as long as you remember to save frequently, since you can save at any point in the game, so if you are not good with challenge, you can trial and error if you need to, or consult guides.
Overall, even if you don't like Otome games, I recommend this. Because in the end, it is primarily a detective mystery genre game.

This was such a fun ride! I've a huge sucker for anything like Ace Attorney that has investigation and suspect interrogation, so when I saw that this game had some of that (but much simpler), I had to buy it. This game has a fairly cheery tone with a likable cast of characters. The premise is that there is a criminal among them, so it was nice cruising through the chapters trying to figure out the suspect along the way. The plot isn't too ambitious and there are only a few puzzles, but I definitely appreciated that. I did think the suspect was given more sympathetic treatment than they deserved, but I guess it made sense given the light-hearted and somewhat sentimental tone of this game. I binged through the game in one sitting, which I don't tend to do, so I think this game is well worth the purchase. Also was good enough to make me write my first review :)

This is quite an intriguing game that I enjoyed a lot. Yes, it is a short game, but the content within is pretty interesting. It feels like I'm playing a Phoenix Wright game with some romance elements sprinkled in. Therefore, the story for me was really interesting and had me theorizing the whole way through the plot. So, I must say I wasn't disappointed at all with the final conclusion. Plus, I love the bit of romance between Irving and Ellie; it felt like their feelings for each other was understandable given the circumstances of this game. Thus, the mechanics of searching and questioning individuals wasn't too hard to figure out. One just had to pay attention as well as piece together who said what, when certain things occurred, and what a person's motive may be in conducting said actions. Now, there was only one puzzle that had me scratching my head in confusing which was towards the end (i.e. when you had to open a box that was in the basement), but besides that most of the puzzles and integrations was pretty self explanatory.
Therefore, to sum this up I had a great time playing this game and enjoyed all that it offered. Hence, I fully recommend this game to those who love detective/mystery games in where your actions and majority of your choices matter.

Good little otome game. I like the investigations and found some parts genuinely difficult. However, I dislike how shallow the relationships are, there are obvious errors in the text translation, you can't skip investigations after you've completed them once, which is annoying. Which brings me to it's biggest problem - it's completely made for console. It's been ported to PC very badly and using the mouse is tricky and annoying, and the skip button and forward buttons etc along with all menus and UI are just a nightmare. It's fine if you plug in an Xbox controller, I guess, since that's what it's mapped for.

It was very good, but the game itself was very short, and there was not much romance.
It was more like a mystery game with a little bit romance on the side.
If you're expecting a romance story, then it is probably not the one for you.
However, it was still very good.

Gothic Murder: Adventure That Changes Destiny weaves together a story of mystery, intrigue, and the world of the paranormal. You play as Ellie, a new housemaid and orphan in 20th-century England. Through the use of puzzles that require players to gather and put together arguments based on evidence, and a story that will keep players intrigued, Gothic Murder is a game worth playing albeit with a few notes.
The story of the game is rather short but does get straight to the point instead of supplying too much filler around interactions that do nothing to further the plot. Each day's events are framed around a dream that Ellie has the night before indicating that the lord will die. I found toward the end many of the plot points to be a bit more cliche which created more of a humorous playthrough than something more serious. Despite this I didn't find the game's story to be lacking in depth. If what you are looking for is something with a unique plot, this isn't going to provide you with that.
The art of the game is incredibly solid and presents an air of polish to it. Taking into consideration the time period the characters and their roles make sense. The cast of characters has a decent mix of both genders, with the males dominating positions of power. The mystic does present as the only poc which could be viewed as a problem. Spiritualism as a movement held many key figures that were generally white. Throughout the game there are various splash screens that are beautifully rendered with the ability to revisit through a gallery option.
The puzzles present in the game remind me of my incredibly vague understanding of how the Ace Attorney's presentation of evidence sections work. This however could be inaccurate as I have not played those games. Puzzles in the game consist of investigating rooms to gather evidence. In this stage the player isn't able to create a game over screen, however in the evidence presentation sections there are possibilities to create a game over. Many of these "questioning" sections required a bit of thinking to get past. The majority of them were pretty simple but a few of them required a bit more critical thinking to complete.
The majority of achievements you will gain in your first playthrough, but will require two or three playthroughs to get all of them. Most players will end with the true ending and get the other end in a subsequent playthrough. The ending achievements add's a single cg at the end of the game and a little extra dialogue, but the bulk of the game is all the same.
Gothic Murder: Adventure That Changes Destiny isn't a game that brings new things to the table, but does present players with a solid story that can be a bit cliche at times. If any of the caveats presented don't detract from the game I would give the game a decent shot. It's a story that can be finished in a few short play sessions or one longer one.

A fun, short mystery visual novel i would easily recommend to anyone who likes mystery and/or otome games as a genre. Quite enjoyable and worth the price imo. Since the developers decided to release an english version of this game on steam, i hope they will also consider releasing the DLC content that hasn't been translated yet. I would love to be able to read it and see more interactions between the characters.
The only criticism i have, regarding something that left me a bit dissatisfied, is that i find the romance a little lacking, and the branching paths a little meaningless, as the only difference between them was one short scene and the epilogue, which changed according to the character you choose to pursue. (especially disappointing for me because i left my favorite boy for last, so i was a bit bummed out to see there was very little interaction with him)
Also, i really wish we could romance Jack, the cook. Forever cursed with cute side character syndrome ='(
So because he isn't an option, Ewen remains the best boy.
I'd rate this game a 6/10. Not because i didn't enjoy it(i very much did!), but because i wanted a little more of the romance and a bit more of a conclusion for all the side characters.

Decent enough mystery game? Actually requires you to do examine things and put pieces together unlike London Detective Mysteria. Not much of an otome though. The romance is sparse and one of the boys is pretty well sidelined. The mystery itself is interesting though?
It reminds me a lot of Cafe 0; The Sleeping Beast. So if you liked that you'll probably like this.
But the UI is. kinda bad. you can't exit fullscreen.. and there's no voice acting. This feels very much like a mobile port even if I enjoyed the (short) story. Still recommended, but get it on sale.

First of all, this NOT an otome game. I never thought it was and I'm not sure what made people think otherwise.
You just happen to end up with one of two characters and have a very brief scene with each. There's no romance during the game.
This a murder/mystery visual novel with investigation/questioning parts.
That being said, I enjoyed the story very much. It is really interesting and actually made me curious to find out who is the culprit. The story has some good plot twists as well. I liked all the characters and
the fact that you get a bad ending/death if you make mistakes.
You can see console buttons on the screen as the game shows you what button to press if you were using a controller, but the mouse works perfectly fine just like any other visual novel. There's nothing difficult or annoying [unless you feel that way in general about using a mouse or don't know how to use one]. Nothing wrong with the UI either or the menus. To say this was badly ported to pc is an exaggeration at the very least.
The skip button works just fine with already seen text. It won't work with unseen text and there's no option in the settings to change that. That didn't bother me.
I liked the translation. In the entire game I encountered 2 sentences where they used the wrong word [have instead of need], 2 sentences missing a single letter [he instead of she, so missing the s] and 1 sentence with a missing word and 1 sentence with a duplicate word [during]. Those are all the mistakes I noticed. You can still perfectly understand all those sentences and everything that has been said. There's always a mistake or 2 in every game but that is very different from being a bad translation.
There's also a DLC that hasn't been translated to english yet. Hope they do it in the future. Would be nice to know what it is about.
Bought this game on release at full price. I do not regret it. I recommend this story for sure!
