Game's fun. I almost skipped this because the art style is fugly and the new player experience is bad. But the game's quite fun once I sunk my teeth in. Multiplayer card game is also a very cool idea.

Nice graphics, good cards and pleasant feeling while playing the game. I like the progression aspect of unlocking new cards, finding new synergies. I really don't like that dev's injected DLC events in vanilla map. They try to sell if through the fear of missing out. Don't do that, its 2025.

Replay Value at its finest. Imagine spending 3,000 hours in a game and still wanting to play more of it.
POSITIVE

4-player online co-op. It always feels great whenever friends want to play multiplayer.
Different game modes
Good card system / deck-building experience
Huge room for theory crafting builds and strategies
Possible hero combinations, a lot
Possible builds for each hero, a lot
Can win with any hero combination
Exploration. Map and monster design, hero interactions, and lore flavor texts make it interesting.
Helpful community

NEUTRAL

Steep learning curve but it is part of the challenge of this game genre.
Long duration of runs in adventure mode. Players want to complete many runs to feel the meta-progression via hero ranks, perks, and town upgrades and also to try different builds and strategies but each run takes a long time to finish especially in co-op. Every run in adventure mode should feel like an immersive journey and it delivers. If players want faster runs comparable to other games of the same genre, they might prefer the Obelisk Challenge game mode.
DLC access. In multiplayer, if someone in your lobby owns a DLC, everyone can go to the DLC map and unlock stuff. The only limiting factor is non-owners can't use pets and heroes that are locked behind specific DLCs.

NEGATIVE

Paradox happened. I'm willing to pay for DLCs of a game I love but the quantity of overpriced DLCs causes hesitation. On the other hand, the game gained publicity because of Paradox; good for the devs, maybe.

Things I was able to do (not an exhaustive list of what other players can do):

Unlocks - heroes, cards, equipment, pets, etc.
Play with friends
Beat the game again and again while increasing Madness difficulty
Pick heroes using in-game randomizer and still win
Aim for high score
Speed-run adventure
Become part of the AtO community
Play with people from AtO Discord
Answer questions of new players
Share achievements and interesting builds
Send suggestions and bug reports

3,000 hours in, what else have I not done yet:

Modding
Play Sylvie in Multiplayer (not planning to do this one anytime soon)
If you are not forever alone and have a friend or two you should play this game for sure, it is quite a fun and relaxing and yet somewhat tense experience, good art style and graphics not to taxing on the pc, overall one of the best out there for this genre and style !

This game was decent enough when I bought it. Dowloaded it after a few years to see what new content was added and was confronted by the Paradox launcher login app. Hard pass thanks. Just stop.

Great roguelike deckbuilder, combines individual deckbuilding and team synergies, well worth the price. Dlc is a little expensive so try the base game first. Fun in single player, even more fun in multiplayer where you can laugh at your friends for throwing a run.

The DLCs at the time of this review are collectively about three times the base-price of the game while containing less than 50% as much content, combined. This is insane greed and I cannot in good conscious recommend people buy into the game despite my opinion of the product itself being over-all very positive.

way too expensive with all the dlc's ... its a cute little game for 10-20 bucks, but they want you to pay way more if you want the complete game

Game was fantastic at launch, but then they teamed up with Paradox as a publisher which lead to the addition of a scummy unnecessary data-mining Paradox launcher (and a new EULA allowing data collection from your computer must be agreed to in order to play the game) and a huge flurry of miniscule overpriced DLCs. Absolutely not.
