Gosh! Jack, I hate you!
I'm not a huge fan of scary games because ehm.. They scare me. However, I somehow ended up with this game on my wishlist and not long after an email notification that this is finally out on Early Access I have decided to buy it and give it a go. So what do I think?
It's great! No, it really is. Don't expect fireworks and over the top game mechanics with super fancy graphics. This game is very simple to get into and straight away feel the atmosphere of it. Maybe one tip for the developers.. When all of the torches are switched off perhaps make it a 'tiny' bit more darker? It's still easy to see even with your own torch off. Would definitely add to the whole atmosphere a bit more.
I'm not going to lie, I needed to go for a shower after playing this game because I was legit scared. I hope everyone else finds it the same.
And that little note towards the end.. You bastards! Hopefully whatever I recorded is good enough and I will share my own view on this on the big red platform.
Buy it! It's cheap! It's not fully polished but it's definitely good enough to play already and enjoy!

Finding a wholly unique game in today's market can often present several challenges across many fields. From story - to animation - to gameplay - even the 'big boys', those triple A companies many of us have grown fond of over the years, begin to fall into the category of an entirely underwhelming experience.
What you find here, however, is a carefully considered game that merges old ideas with a new, innovative, young, and exciting mind from which this games developer has arrived with a newfound sense of vigour that reaffirms their clear investment in one thing...
...PRECISION.
There is no shame to be cast on the man who tries; and while the afore mentioned 'big boys' take on each new project with a war chest large enough to invade a small country - we find in 'The Forsaken Ruins' an approach that cannot be mastered at the command of daddy warbucks, but instead one that comes from the heart. From the soul.
While, as is the nature of 'indie' games, the occasional bug may be found, what you also find - if you approach this game with an open mind, and the same sense of spirit in which it was likely created - you will discover a horror game that has you looking over your shoulder; both in the virtual, and real world.
With thoughtful sound design that brings with it the same eerie presence of the 1980 movie; 'The Shinning', you cannot help but pause the game to regroup your senses - and make sure your lights are still on.
The dark hallways are not your friends, for they already have their own...
Ever-Bleed Keep attracts you beyond the limits of the light. Where a firefly finds its calling in the blaze, 'The Forsaken Ruins' makes the void its sweet, sweet honey. And you the bug. The Unity Engine only enhances this sensation. Wits must be kept, and an eager ear to the ground would serve you well should you wish to survive this nightmare.
Although desperately trying to maintain an anti-social distance to the creatures that dwell in the shadows that keep them - I made it my mission on one play through to approach them as intimately as possible before my life was taken. What I found were monster designs well beyond what one might expect from a one-man-band project such as this. Colours pierce into the darkening voids and highlight the many grotesque details that stain these creatures' flesh. Their shadows and forms haunt you as you scurry silently through the maze that they call home.
Beyond the gameplay you find a narrative that leaves you eager to find all of the hidden notes and journals left behind by your predecessors. The stories and tales that linger in Ever-Bleed Keep only enrich your nightmare and showcase the effort that went into creating this game's wonderful world of lore.
In summary, this title sets the standard for any and all solo game devs to follow. A brilliantly crafted multi-layered puzzle game that has you searching for clues and a means of escape. That wonderfully disgusting sensation that many horror games fail to capture is most definitely present in the deep depths of 'The Forsaken Ruins'.
Your purchase would not be a waste - your time could not be better spent - the experiences you find in this scintillating game will stick with you for many moons. Higher regard for an indie game, especially one that comes from pouches such as these, I could not possibly give.
A masterpiece in many aspects. But most importantly this is a masterpiece of singular achievement that I hope only brings as much joy to its creators heart, as it does to mine.

Amazing atmosphere that encapsulates you in a scary Amnesia esk style game. The darkness of some areas leaves you on the edge of your seat wondering what may be lurking in the mysterious darkness. The monster are truly scary when they approach you, even their presence around the areas is intimidating making you not want to move from the corner with your light out. The puzzles are fun and not too challenging as there is information to lead you in the correct direction but not enough to tell you exactly what to do.
Love the game you can see a lot of love and hard work has gone into the creation of the forsaken ruins.
I cant wait to see where the future will take this game good work!!

Hey, so, first off, this game is quite fun, took me a little while to figure out the overall 'puzzle' but I got there in the end :D I found 1 glitch/bug area that gets you out of bounds (though it doesn't do anything for the game and anyone playing it properly probably won't come across it)
Room before you change to Level 2 from 1, the little arches on the side of the wall (with the triggered AI walking past you on the left hand side) I found if I got up to them and was able to crouch, after a persistent push I could get inside, and go from the side I was on, up and down, and then of course I dropped out of bounds completely into the void. Other than that, Solid start!!
Scare Factor: You did get me a couple of times with the AI in the large room, I found the Warden wasn't to reactive overall, but the gremlin and unsighted definitely got me a few times!!!
Looking forward to see how you finish the game later in development!! :)
