Sclash is genuinely an awful game, and of the countless games in my library this is one of the very few that I actively regret spending money on.
The game has a brushstroke art style that is nice in theory, but as you can see in the screenshots, unless the game is zoomed out it looks so washed out and unappealing. The issue also is that characters don't have any outline, and therefor they don't stick out from the environment, which is just bad design. The particle effects don't look good, hit effects with Katakana just feels weird to look at, and animations are clunky.
Speaking of clunky, the gameplay is decidedly clunky AND un-enjoyable. You have 4 moves in the game. A dodge, an attack (chargeable), a pommel strike and a parry. Parries will cancel enemy offence, pommel strikes interrupt attacks and drain extra stamina with a range drawback, dodges avoid attacks but give nothing, and attacks are attacks. What makes the gameplay so un-enjoyable is that everything is slow and therefor react-able. I play a lot of For Honor, and of all the fighting games For Honor has some of the slowest attacks in fighting games. But somehow this game has even slower attacks. Parrying costs NO stamina, and you cannot feint attacks.
So what ends up happening is that against human opponents you just wait for someone to get bored or impatient so that they throw the match. AI enemies on the other hand will parry just about anything you throw at them without fail, so you need to repeatedly creep into their range and parry their attacks until they run out of stamina and therefor cannot parry again. But don't press the movement stick twice or else you'll do a dodge which has massive vulnerability frames. Meaning the best way to win against AI is to just hold forward and spam an easy parry, and to beat a person you just need to have the patience to stare at them. It is so unbelievably boring.
Not to even mention to sorry excuse of a story and voice acting in this game. This game claims that it takes inspiration from Japanese Mythology and it hopes that you'll "become more interested in" Japanese Mythology due to it. In all actuality this game just uses the names from Japanese Folklore and butchers any meaning those names held. The voice actors not only sound completely flat at just about all times, but they massively mispronounce Japanese words and names consistently. The story is spoon fed to you, and it's not only poorly written but entirely uninteresting. It's entirely disrespectful to the Japanese folklore and mythology that it claims influence from, and that just makes me hate it more.
Genuinely, I think this game is bad, and I could not recommend against someone buying it more.

Beautiful samurai fighting game. The art is the main star of the show, and I found myself taking screenshots of basically every cut scene. Using one as my background for now! The story was interesting and the characters were passable. There was reasonable challenge once you got used to the controls and if you want deeper challenge there are additional story mode modifiers such as 'one life,' 'relax mode,' and 'time attack.'
With that said the game has an obvious focus on being a 1v1 fighting game. If you have a friend to play with in couch co-op and you like the one hit style then that's fine. Playing against the computers is a bit boring after a while and I mostly just did it for a few of the achievements. There is online play but I was not able to find a single match, and many of the achievements revolve around online play so if you are into 100% games you likely won't be able to with this one.
Overall, a mechanically decent and visually beautiful game that you can play through in one sitting and have some really tense pvp with a friend if that's your thing. I don't think it's worth the $8.99 asking price, but if you can get it on sale I recommend.
