Oke doke, the game is fun if your like me... absolute dogshit at soulslike games. the difference with this one is that its easy yet can be rewarding. if your playing for the story it can be a breeze. my big issue with most soulslikes is parry timing, in my stupid little reptile brain i cant get timing right... EVER. But here, parrying is an option, after the first boss you get the two weapons that make the game easy, frost gun, and falchion & sabre. for all enemies and bosses, you freeze them with the frost gun, and then special with the swords, and youve just beat the game. many other weapons have a parry ability but i didnt touch them MY GRIPE WITH A SIMPLE MECHANIC: you have to wait for the animations to finish during your attack, THEN you can move again, some weapons are faster than others so you just gotta figure it out for ya-self i enjoy the story, its simple and fun the robot designs are sick, sure some bosses are just reused, but i expect that, and the game just looks good the movement ive seen people say sucks, it does get better, and you get used to it, aslo grappl hookg verdict: its fun, but if you want a challenge, you gotta make it hard on yourself and robo girl design is neat, das it

It's OK by gameplay, not so bad, but it's just undone sh*t with inadequate FPS drops from 140 to 20 even on 4070 upd. there is 6-14FPS in CUTSCENES OMG Shame on devs, it's just not zero, it's negative skills

I'm about 3 hours in and just finished the third main boss. I really want to like this game, as it does have some interesting game mechanics (such as freezing enemies then breaking them for a bigger chunk of damage), but it's unfortunately just executed very poorly. As others have mentioned, the performance is abysmal. Even when turning all settings to low and enabling DLSS, I still can't get a truly stable framerate. It's good enough to play for a few minutes, but then I'll randomly encounter significant frame drops which make the game near unplayable for a few seconds. Additionally, the movement and combat needs some more time in the oven. Several deaths were due to clipping on random invisible objects when trying to make a tricky jump, or when trying to dodge away from a group of enemies only to get pummeled. All in all, the game had some potential, but it just feels unfinished (and so far, too easy if you just get one or two hits then dodge away). I got this game for $7.49 so for me it was probably worth the purchase, but only barely. I'll update this review if I decide to go back and finish.

I passed on this when it came out, but bought it on sale when it was cheap. This is surprisingly good. It's one of the easiest souls-likes I have played, but I actually don't mind that. It's hard enough that you have to pay attention and the enemies feel dangerous, but it never has a part that will completely shut you down unless you can perfect block 20 times in a row without fail. When purchased on sale it's absolutely worth playing through if you enjoy souls-likes. The biggest problem with the game is just the subject matter. The French revolution isn't exactly a fun setting to begin with, but it's also just weird that you have to work alongside Robespierre the entire time, who of course turns out to be an absolute genocidal, authoritarian maniac in real history. There are some endings where he doesn't end up in charge, but it's still just feels grimy that one of the absolute worst people in European history is portrayed as a fiery idealist who is giving you speeches about helping the poor and bringing about equality the whole time.

One of the better Soulslikes when it comes to feel (combat, movement, exploration). Main bosses are cool and memorable. Story is pretty boring. Pretty good production values. Easier than most other games like it. I had enough fun to justify buying it on sale.

I played for under 3 hrs and I see the potential with the story, the setting and the gameplay, but I couldn't get to like the game. Starting with the story, I didn't get hooked form the start, but I gave it a chance. I believed there was gonna be something that get me invested, the setting about a revolutionary France with steampunk elements are interesting, however it never got me interested within my playtime, to the point that I was watching videos, reading and doing anything but paying attention to the story beats or lore. About the gameplay. The mechanics looked great, the regular souls-like mechanics with a bit of unique flavor, but the combat and movement seemed clunky. The inventory takes elements form games like Bloodborne where there is no weight limit to push a versatile combat and fast movement, but it felt slow, form the movement of the character to combo attacks. It didn't fit right with me. I bought it on sale for about 7.50$ USD, which isn't bad, but I would highly recommend watching a video about the gameplay and story before buying the game. I would even recommend to buy Lies of P over this game, because it does a lot of good where this one does not.

8 out of 10. It's a fun game and I admit to playing on assisted mode. Next steps are not always intuitive. I've sorta stumbled along the main story, not always able to figure out what to do for side quest. Sometimes you just can't complete the side quest at this point, but nothing every tells you that. At times the clues feel like the game expects you to know the layout of France. I'm still playing it 28 hours in and its keeping my interest so its doing something right. I've seen lots of reports of bugs online and I guess this creator has a reputation. Some of the bugs are really just non intuitive next steps. Some appear, from description, as real bugs. The only bug I've come across is that if my computer goes to sleep the game crashes. Since my PC only goes to sleep if I pause to do something and the game saves at opening menu screen, I'm never set very far back. Once again I'm playing on assisted mode so I don't lose my Anima. Not a perfect game, but I got it on sale so well worth the $9 I spent on it.

I’ve spent over 20 hours with *Steelrising*, and overall, it’s been a pretty unique and enjoyable experience. The game takes a bold approach by setting its Souls-like mechanics in an alternate version of the French Revolution, where Paris is controlled by deadly steampunk automatons. That alone made it stand out from most other games in the genre. The visual design and atmosphere are honestly great — the streets, landmarks, and even the enemy designs carry a distinct identity, and I really appreciated the effort that went into the world-building. Combat feels satisfying and responsive for the most part, with a solid variety of weapons and elemental effects that let you customize your playstyle. Some weapons feel a bit overpowered, but overall, I enjoyed experimenting with different loadouts. Boss fights were another highlight — a few were genuinely tough and creative, though I found the overall difficulty of the game to be a bit lighter than I expected from a Souls-like. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, especially for players looking to try something similar to *Dark Souls* but less punishing. Performance on my machine was decent though I did notice occasional frame drops in open areas or during intense effects. It’s not game-breaking, but some technical optimization would improve the experience. Enemy AI is probably the weakest part of the game — sometimes enemies would just freeze or behave awkwardly, which pulled me out of the immersion a bit. Also, the level design becomes a bit repetitive the further you go, and the game reuses some enemy types too frequently. Still, despite those issues, I found myself genuinely invested in the story and the lore. The mix of historical figures with a sci-fi twist worked surprisingly well. If you enjoy Souls-likes and want something different in theme and style, *Steelrising* is a solid pick. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely worth your time — especially if you catch it on sale.

TLDR; accessible souslike veteran will find easy to exploit and newcomers will welcome; interesting arsenal; combat system has some flaws, but nothing too annoying; game is beautiful, but too dark and hard to read sometimes; story has some surprises and will interest history buffs, but that's about it; audio bugs in cutscenes; and I'll leave it at that. Sometimes it's good to play a game that isn't a masterpiece, a game whose ambition is a little further than its reach. This is true for Steelrising in a number of aspects, from gameplay to graphics to writing, but for me the good far outweights the bad, though the rough edges can be annoying at times. This is an accessible soulslike, so if you usually avoid this type of game because of its difficulty this can be a good entry point. The base gameplay is accomodating enough if you build your character properly, but there are difficulty options to tailor your experience. For souslike veterans this might be too easy to exploit, while at the same time the combat system has some flaws or quirks that will irk some. For example, you can't cancel attacks, which leads to mistimings and taking unnecessary damage. The iframes (the microseconds your character is invulnerable while dodging) are a bit tight and I found them unrealiable. Enemy attacks have an insane amount of tracking and there are plenty of 360 attacks and other long-winded attacks to punish easger players or those that dodge a bit too much. There are interesting weapons to choose, with some weird choices in the combat design. For example, blocking and parrying are weapon skills and not something you can do with any weapon. Faster weapons are better at stunning enemies which sounds counterintuitive. I ran a build based on immobilizing enemies, which not only did massive damage, but also healed me and could restore my stamina. Speaking of stamina, there's a nice mechanic where you can 'timed reload' your stamina bar, allowing for more aggressiveness or that save when you accidently dodge yourself out of stamina. The design of the enemies and bosses is inspired, visually at least, but there's not a lot of enemy variety. The game looks beautiful and has some nice skyboxes, but is often too dark or has a limited palette. This can make reading enemy movements a bit hard to read. I had a bug with the audio on cutscenes where the dialogue was dismally low and I had to go by the subtitles. The dialogue itself isn't anything extraordinaire, but for history buffs like me who love the period of the French revolution it's great to see so many characters of the time. The story has some very obvious points you can see 15 hours in advance, but it also goes some places I didn't expect at the start. You can even make some choices in a few quests, but don't expect anything close to Baldur's Gate 3 consequences. I'll leave it at that.
