The Gunplay feels alright, a little better than PD2 but still not that great to me. Skills also aren't that great in my eyes, and it doesn't feel like Payday 2 where there were many branching or unique build setups you could do. Armor is set it and forget it once you unlock it, no armor vs dodge vs mix debates here. All the time I have in this game is having owned it since it launched. And that's all the time I feel I care to put into it.
The maps are ok, but I don't find them to have been great, which leaves the best ones as the legacy ones from PDTH.
The game hasn't been very stable when I played it. The beta oddly was more stable than the game has been. The last time I tried was to solo (Which is still online, so if your internet goes out or is having problems, you just don't get to play it), I handled the cops well at first because they didn't pose much of a challenge, then got chased by cloakers for 3 straight minutes, and died quickly in the open because of the downs from the cloakers giving me limited time and since they thought objectives with almost no cover was a good idea - Then tried to replay it and crashed and I haven't felt a reason to retry since. Some of the objectives can be very lackluster with arbitrarily small circles to idly stand in.
Worthwhile updates have been few and far between, while the game balloons in price with DLC; Now standing at $155, For a game that feels ok to me, if I'm being generous, with a small player base. The game often doesn't crest 1000 worldwide concurrent players so lobbies can be hard to find, especially if it's a lesser played heist. 2000 peak players is infrequent.
Payday 2 for context currently has almost 10,000 players online past 10:30pm on a Sunday, with 24 hour peaks usually around 12,000-15,000 players on the low end, with 20,000+ being common averages.
All this comes to bear on a more recent point; They have further reduced the already limited dev team size by 25%. This is due to a collaboration with the makers of PUBG (KRAFTON). Died 2019, reborn 2025; Welcome back, Payday Royale. The game that hasn't delivered well and isn't nearly as good as it's predecessor despite a full 10 years, 1 month and 8 days (3691 days) to work toward a successor and a further 514 days as of the time of this review to get the game into a good condition. And their solution in their wisdom was to reduce their dev team size for an already unsuccessful successor that isn't in good shape by 1/4 so they could do a PUBG collab...
Everyone give it up for day 4205 of trying to make a competent PD2 successor.

So I’ve had this game for a long while, I even kept playing it when it first came out and had issues. It’s a good game to play gameplay wise, they could add more heists to do but everything else is good. My main issue with the game is community based especially when it comes to doing quick play and getting matched with randoms, dealing with people constantly leaving heists or getting booted from games for absolutely no reason whatsoever, my final straw was grabbing the EMP for the stock market mission and having it ready so when we were done with getting all the money we’d have it ready. Well the people didn’t like that I grabbed it and booted me and I’m level 100+ I’ve done the heist plenty of times and now what to do. The game is more fun with friends rather than teaming up with randoms, there are some good ones but a lot more toxic ones.

You don't even need to be a fan of the series to understand the disappointment of a game Starbreeze has here
As a massive fan of the series, genre, and style Payday has; they lost most of their fan base with the release of this game. Between having little replay-ability compared to its predecessor, no offline mode on launch, a shoddy leveling system and more- this game was doomed to fail at launch.
I'm looking forward to the direction of this series with the release of jacket but even one gun, a charm, and some more cosmetics aren't enough to keep the players showing up once every month or two.
I would personally love to see more steam achievements to hunt similar to Payday 2. Please give me a reason to love your series once again, I believe in you Starbreeze <3

I want to love this game so bad but I'm scared to enjoy it because the studio heads clearly want it to die so bad. Unless it makes a miraculous turnaround in the next year do not waste your money. What a tragic, shameful way to end a beloved series if it dies here.

The game in my eyes has always been good but man have they done a lot of work on it since it's initial launch. A lot of small quality of life changes have gone miles in my eyes as they've added some of the features that were missing from the game and I hope that these changes keep happening over time.
One thing I've really appreciated PAYDAY 3 for is the direction the game took from it's conception, it's a lot more serious then it's predecessor and for me that was one the things that really drew me in. Not only that but I felt the balance was something I enjoyed a lot, it was difficult and closer to PAYDAY: The Heist.
Something that really irked me with PAYDAY 2 was simply the fact by the end of it's life, the game seem to rely on a lot of unbalanced things that took me out of the experience, an over reliance on Skill Builds, Perk Decks, Invincibility (Dodge), Health Regen, and other such things. So it's really enjoyable to say that PAYDAY 3 strayed away from these things.
Another thing I have to commend them on is the improvements brought to the game simply by the new engine, the gun play feels phenomenal, Stealth has been improved and made a lot more fun as people besides the host can assist and help with things without jeopardizing the mission thanks to Desync and other Diesel Engine quirks.
I'd highly recommend the game (Especially during a sale) as someone who has put plenty of hours into the PAYDAY franchise, PAYDAY 3 might have had some bumps near it's launch but the game has come such a long way since then and fixed many of it's issues and I can't wait to see what else they can cook up for this game.

I love Payday 2 level design, i can play "Hoxton Breakout" for 100 times and still not get bored, but Payday 3 level design is on another level, another level SUCK ASS that is. i can't even remember every single mission title, and the gunplay feel like they shoot a pebble. I feel like you can enjoy payday 3 when "Cuddling with your Tomboy Bestie ASMR" playing in the background and STILL you enjoy the asmr more because they more enjoyable than payday 3.

Offline mode is a lie. That one fact alone in deserving of a thumps down.
Never mind the fact that there is very little "game" or "service" in this game as a service.

In a vacuum, it's not a bad game. The problem is, Payday 2 is much more content-rich, and replayable.
What's good:
Animations, stealth mechanics (except for standing in circle hacking, but it's not exclusive to stealth), gunplay, movement, map design
What's bad:
Replayability, build variety, AI (both friendly and enemy). This one is more of a preference, but in my opinion, the Artstyle kinda sucks (graphics are ok, but it looks generic compared to PD2 and PDTH).
Also, Shade (the objective announcer NPC) is kind of cringe. I don't mind her usually, but in loud, she keeps screeming at the crew about "getting the fuck out of there, the cops are not retreating this time", when the main objective isn't done, and you literally can't escape.
I preferred the announcers in PD2, Bain was professional, same with Locke, but even the more expressive announcers were just done better, like Vlad or Jimmy.
