I loved this game. I've played several other games that told the story of pets turning human. And I felt that most of those games followed similar story arcs. So honestly, I wasn't expecting a whole lot in terms of originality. Man, was I wrong. So so very wrong. This game actually explored how an animal might behave if they suddenly became human. You'd think, well duh... but those other games I mentioned didn't ever address that. The writing was great. I think what I enjoyed most is the comedy aspect. Maybe it just nails my sense of humor, but I literally laughed until I cried.
But I gotta admit. Some sick part of me wanted a romantic happy ending. heh. Don't judge me! With how the game is written. It teases like if you make the right choices you could get that relief. And yet... with the way the game is written. You'd kinda be a sicko to want that (shut up!). These characters are very obviously not emotionally or intellectually qualified to be xoxo<3
Look at your dog. Look at it right now. Would you hit that? Well there you go...

Paws and Effect is a short but fun little VN. The story is cute, humorous, and has a nice casual feel. It can be played through in a single sitting, but the player's choices affect the story so it takes multiple playthroughs to reach every scene.
VNs in this price range are usually lower quality, but Paws and Effect is surprisingly well polished. The UI, animations, and transitions are all very fluid and clean. There is an overall feeling of completeness and attention to detail that is not common in shorter or cheaper titles.
While playing, I encountered occasional crashes that reset any unsaved progress. The developer has acknowledged the bug and is working on a fix, but a crash is still very annoying and immersion-breaking. Fortunately, the game keeps track of completed chapters so I was always able to restart from the previous one even if I hadn't saved. When starting from a specific chapter, you are able to re-enter your previous choices and decisions so that the story is not affected. You can also save at any point, and I recommend saving often until the crashes are patched.
Overall, I enjoyed playing Paws and Effect. I typically play VNs when I want something relaxing and fun, and this one filled that role very well.

This game is very humorous at times, the dialogue is very well written, and it's a pretty fun experience overall. The art is very cute, I also liked the voicing and music.
The plot in the long run was weird, and though plenty about the game was enjoyable none of the endings really satisfied. So much of the game feels really neat and refined but for some reason, after playing through it completely I feel like the game was a little shallow.
Since I did purchase this on sale it was very much worth the price, and I would recommend it to anyone looking to play something light and silly.

There are some minor problems, like settings that is not actually working. It's impossible to turn of sound fully, when you try game fully restarting, sometimes it's just freezing on black screen. It's simply sad and ruining immersion.
For the narrative part, I truly don't understand why you decide to add "scientists" to the plot.
If it was a twist for the second game with it's own lore, it would be great. But for now it's like an additional comic relief, that kinda out of place?
The story is heartwarming and hilarious. Art very colorful and attractive. In general it's a very good, lighthearted story that I suggest to give a go

Put on the SFW option and it took the censor bars away for a lame joke, showed me and my entire youth group some nippleless freaks and then crashed a stream bc it wasn't sfw on the sfw option. Rude, unexpected, the youth group has converted to an entirely separate religion to attempt to find solace there.

Well, if you miraculously get it for free or for a few cents, it's a thumbs up. Oh but it crashes a lot when progressing through the story, so beware.
I know the price isn't steep, honestly maybe my expectations were just too high for this price. I just felt like I played a demo of a VN. As in, I feel like most of the stuff that happens is pointless. If you play it, you'll know why. Although I'm not recommending you do that.
