Space Crew? More like Space Chore. Repetitive, clunky, and grindy. Feels less like commanding a crew and more like babysitting slow, confused robots. Bored out of orbit.

While I absolutely love the concept of this game, the execution is too poor for me to recommend the game. It clearly needed to spend much more time in playtesting before being released. I got the game for $2, but even then, the experience is fairly unpleasant. The core gameplay loop of the game is just.....not very fun/interesting/exciting. The game is 3D with actual 3D movement between spaceships and places, but as far as I can tell, you can't actually control the ship's movement, which is horrible, because your ship's placement versus enemy ships is critical, and the AI piloting your ship is totally clueless to the situation. (i.e. my rear side has lost shields, but our pilot continues to expose our rear to *all* enemies) Despite being in tutorial mode, the game didn't explain hacking to me, *and* it also had enemies board my ship for the first time on top of the hacking, neither of which it explained to me before overwhelming me with both. I'm an FTL veteran, but I died very quickly on my 3rd mission due to lack of explanations/clarity. There wasn't much for me to do on the previous missions to that one, so I was somewhat relieved that my ship was destroyed only to find out that the game wasn't over and that I was supposed to keep going despite not having a ship or crew. There's also a severe lack of depth with each of the things a crewmember can do (i.e. click the "extinguish fire" button instead of moving your crewmember to the room with the fire), which I figured would mean there's strategic depth to the sheer number of things you have to handle, but in first hour of play, there really wasn't any strategy involved. The devs clearly spent a ton of time on the artwork, which looks fantastic, but the pace of the game is really slowed down as you have to watch all of these transitions/cutscenes with each part of your missions and returning home that really slows down the pace of the game, not to mention the waiting as your ship slowly meanders to the next jumppoint. I really wish I could skip all of that and get straight to the next important thing going on. However, even when you're finally in a fight, the pace of the game is still too slow, as your crew is extremely slow and ponderous, meaning you're incentivized to keep your crew placed in a single spot. My family was watching me play this game, and in many of the fights, the enemy ships would park right next to me and stare at me as my AI pilot also parked stared back at them, with our guns automaticaly pew-pewing each other every few seconds. No movement, no actions, just silence punctuated with pew-pew every few seconds. Because of the awkward angle my pilot always chooses, only one gun is brought to bear, meaning my family thought I was crazy for playing a game where I'm sitting there doing nothing watching this absurd situation that I was powerless to change until the dumb enemy finally blew up, only to rinse-repeat that same thing many times over. I guess this is what happens when a studio focuses on art and pizzazz instead of getting the core gameplay loop right first, because the gameplay on this game just feels very....off. The tutorial falls off a cliff and leaves you out to dry, but I could get past that if the game was actually interesting/fun to play, which in its current state. it simply isn't. I absolutely love these kinds of games, but this one probably needs to go back to the drawing board to fix what it got wrong.

Better than its predecessor, but still somewhat lacking in depth and customization. Good enough to merit a positive review, but alas not by much.

Similar to Bomber Crew. Similar to FTL. Fun but a grind to advance through the game without a lot of variation. Worth the few dollars it was on sale.

I wish there was more to the story (and player choices in there), because otherwise the game will be compared to FTL Faster than Light - and FTL is better, it has greater variety of ships (for starters). Although can I manage to finish Space Crew campaign, instead dying like a whiny b**th in FTL. I like all the improvements over Bomber Crew.
