The long load times make this game not fun for me.

Plays almost identically to XCOM 1 & 2. If you like those games you will like this.

I love the other games by Harebrained and I had hoped that the reviews were wrong, so I got it on the summer sale, but playing this game, it is nothing like their other games and I really dislike X-com style games that have a heavy reliance on Stealth. Back to playing re-playing shadowrun and Battletech.
Shame really as the voice actors seem great, even the overall theme with the tomb raider/Indiana Jones style setting. I didn't get into the story but it looked ok, but there are so many great X-com style games out there, some by Harebained that there isn't much point in playing one that isn't fun.

Shame this one didn't hit it big, I'm a big fan of the aesthetics, the setting, the characters, and most of the gameplay.
The stealth portion feels the least nicely so far, but everything else has been a hit for me.

It falls right in with the greats from Mimmi even though it does belong to that company. While Shadow Gambit, Shadow Tactics, and Desperados III are far superior, this game is very close. This has real time movement, sneaky attacks, and turn based combat. It also has player upgrades which are nice. The percentage to hit is pretty accurate, so far no 100% misses like in Xcom.
Traps and environment kills are very nice and add to the fun of the game.
There is no quick save or quick load as far as I can find which is wierd for a game like this.
Over all it ticks my buttons for a great strategy game, I will be full enjoying this one I am sure. It also hits on a good story which is a quality Indiana Quartermane feel.

Great atmosphere. distinct characters. Good writing and voice acting (mostly). Interesting power combinations and co-operative effects. Tense story/mission progression. Can customize difficultly levels. Replay value is good once you figure out how to customize starting agents.
This game didn't get the love it deserves.

Harebrained Schemes did a pretty good job with this game for the tactical squad strategy lover. The setting is pretty good in a 1920 Pre-WWII Lovecraft inspired type adventure. I like the setting as it meshes my love for Indiana Jones like adventures and Lovecraft fiction. I do see some of the issues with making stealth a primary method of completing missions. This is likely because the enemy leveling does get unbalanced and gets much harder as you progress. I don't mind the mismatch because it does make the game more challenging. Hopefully Harebrained's departure from Paradox will get them back into making great tactical squad games.

Did not like how the game just throws more and more enemies at you on small maps while the enemies get progressively harder. Terrible balance. its like an aggravating fun.

There are Games that are universally beloved, with very high approval rating. There are games that everyone dislikes or hates. And then sometimes there are games, that feel like they were made for a very specific person or people. And in the case of LL, that person is me.
Lamplighters League is genuinely one of my favourite games, but I totally understand the negative reviews. I just want to put my nuanced take on here, so we dont riddle this game with negativity thats only partly deserved. First of all, some justified criticisms that others have pointed to: the game is too easy sometimes, the stealth mechanics can be buggy, and balancing for some abilities (especially the undrawn hand abilities) feels off. There are some kind of clunky mechanics that ironically make the game harder, but I dont think they are intentional. But that sort of stuff is already talked about a lot on here. So let me tell you what I liked:
- the setting is lovely. Yes, the maps are very limited, but they look really nice
- I actually like the heroes. I don't know why so many people say they're shallow, we dont learn a lot of backstory for them, but they have interesting personalities, some fun banter between them and unique gimmicks
- the game is so bloody satisfying. They really went all out on crazy cool special effects and synergies.
- I also think the world is interesting. I saw someone on here complain about how many different secret orders there are, but I think I'd get bored if it was just a conflict between lamplighters and the court.
So who would I recommend this game to? Basically, you gotta really love the setting, some cheesy humor and be someone that played a game like XCOM LWOTC and thought "man, this is cool, but I'd really like all of my chars to be borderline supernatural powerhouses and I dont care too much about the base building stuff". All these things are true of me, and if you can relate, I think you'll also have a lot of fun with this game.
