Overall enjoyable, but I had it crash on me, which is unusual for an Atelier game. Liked the cast and game-play.
The Dusk plays a major role in this game and is a conclusion to the Dusk Trilogy. This game actually features 2 protagonist, much like Escha & Logy, but a lot of stuff changed in this one. The combat is pretty simple, basically the standard RPG line lineup and no longer a triangle formation the other Dusk games had. The alchemy system is simple once you learn how to use it efficiently, and level up.
The biggest change, if you are starting from the old games, is no timer. The game has a life goal system that is interesting, yet confusing at the start. It took me some time to realize that XP awards are granted after you get xp from that said source, such as hunting to get you 500 xp bonus, on top of the monster's xp.

The whole Dusk Trilogy is just peak.
Shallies combat is easier than its predecessors. The alchemy, while different, is on the same level as EschaLogy, even if it takes longer to to reach its full potential. The only negative about the synthesis is the cost level.
The absence of a time limit was unexpected.
Anyway, buy the whole trilogy (on sale) and start with Ayesha.
