Really fun and has a lot of potential. Needs more content.
DISCLAIMER: This is a first impressions review, and NOT a full review

PLEASE NOTE: I recommended this game with some exceptions, overall if the game did not live up to just a tiny expectation, I would not have recommended it at all, so please read the review carefully if you are thinking of buying/playing this game
Cathedral 3-D is a game developed by Unfinished Games and published by Feardemic The game offers some nice graphics, although some ugly glitches here and there, it is pleasant all the same Cathedral 3-D overall, however, is an okay game to play, and it does get boring if being played for a long time, but is an okay-ish to meh FPS arena shooter game and to play in short bursts
RECOMMENDED :)
REVIEW SOURCES:

None

It doesn't work on Ivy Bridge processor, that's unacceptable for a «simple» game. And tested with Linux Proton 5.13-1 it plays audio, but there's no video...

After the first 20 minutes, I was about to write "not recommended" but then it clicked. I already went through spells, health system, respawning, etc. but the thing that made the game was the double jump. Then I was able to move through the world more fluidly, use second attack to stay high above the enemies etc. I am not that good shooter player so I still didn't do well. But I had fun. For more competitive players who are willing to learn it could be fun for a while. For explorers like me, who are fine with either exploring the game's world or the game's mechanics, Cathedral 3-D should still last for at least an hour. Because I don't expect to get much better and I had enough of running with the chest to pick up powerups and then place it back at the top to go for a hunt, and then repeat the process. My strategy worked and it was mostly because I was falling off the map that I was ending the last runs I had. The following enemies could be fun but I just don't feel like repeating few minutes of the very same stuff over and over again. I am glad there is no persistent layer but having no randomisation, extra objectives or anything that would differentiate each play is something that makes me bored quite soon. Still, again, for what I played, I had enough fun. People who'd like to run&gun but prefer things to be explained have not much to seek here. Unless they are ok with figuring things out or want to watch videos but I think that there are other games that will work better for them. Few things I'd love to be changed in the prequel: - collisions. It is extremely easy to hit a small sticking-out collision and wreck your jump - falling of the world was the most common cause for me to end the game - I still have no idea how teleporting to the chest works. Chest is not attacked yet I always teleport to dozens of enemies swarming around

I have mixed feelings about this game.. but ultimately I think it's worth the price. I think the tutorial could expand upon some of the other systems in the game. Basically the game is all about gathering health and ammo from the map.. and then hiding the box so you can unleash some carnage on the humans invading your castle. You have to put the box down to shoot. You have a few main attacks to experiment with. If you are about to die you need to pick the box up and die with it in your hands to get a resurrect. This only works twice as far as I can tell. One of the problems I'm having is the box is so hard to pick up when you need it. Definitely a novel idea but I just feel like the game isn't really doing a good job of explaining how to play it, and I would rather go in prepared instead of playing trial and error all day.

"I like the aesthetics and bold discount tactics" - My friend Berry I've got to say that this game is really great. I don't know if there is anything else like it or if it's emulating a style but that does not matter. Cathedral 3D's movement, speed, style, and mechanics combine for an awesome time. The game has a simple tutorial, some would argue to simple. Just get in there and play, figure out routes, learn what attacks work best, and stack combo orbs which give you invincibility, shield, or invincibility for your chest. To reload your health and ammo, you must be holding the chest as you run over the grails. Additionally, your point modifier depletes if you stray to far from the chest. If you're having trouble with your runs, watch the replays from others on the leaderboard and those will get you sorted for your next run. I've not finished the game, I understand there might be a boss at the end based off the tutorial.

I used to hate this game because it didn't give me exactly what I want. So I am telling others what to expect. This isn't an easy game, it's not meant to let out your frustration, it's meant to challenge you. There's a lot of mechanics that are quite hard to nail down when you don't know what you're doing. So, what SHOULD you expect? You and the chest which stores your heart both take damage from enemies, so it's important to keep it close to you at all times. You can pick up the chest and move it where ever you want, and while you hold it, you can pick up cups that replenish either your health (red) or ammo (yellow). Which, let's talk about what you do with such ammo. You shoot fireballs. Either simply a fireball at a time for 1 ammo, dealing decent damage, a shotgun of weaker fireballs also for 1 ammo, and a huge fireball of explosive death that vaporizes everything in its radious for 10 ammo. You can hold up to 200 ammo, and each cup gives you 10. If you hold the chest, you aren't able to attack, and you'll have to drop it before you can. If the chest falls out of reach, you can use a spell to call it right into your hands! Quite handy, but you only have a limited amount of charges. You can also replenish by killing wizards and grabbing the weird blue orbs One last thing, if you die, you continue (not if you fall in the void). On the first life you have 20hp, on the second, that goes down to 10 (but increasing your movement speed), and down to the last life, with just 5hp, you no longer have the chest. You can pick up cups as yourself, and you are fast as fuck boiiii. I find this last stage to be the most hit or miss in terms of enjoyability. Either I have an absolute blast, or I die 5 seconds in, no inbetween. Anyway, that's it. The game is pretty fun, just give it your best efforts and don't call it "unfair" or "dumb" until you really get to know it. Or don't. It's not for everyone. One other thing I didn't know about but is really important (seriously, this game really sucks at conveying invaluable information to the player) you can set your chest into one of 4 altars around the cathedral, shaped like pedestals with claws going off into the 4 cardinal directions and meeting again in the middle, slightly above. If you throw your chest near one of these, it will slide in and automatically not take any damage. Not only is the chest protected, but as long as you are within its range, your health will regenerate.

Visuals are nice and the conceptual idea is as well. However, i couldnt stand it for longer than 10 minutes. I feel like there were made a few bad decisions that if done differently could make this game a great one. For example getting damage by being hit AND having the chest hit feels horrible. There are enemies constantly spamming your with ranged attacks and they run across the map in mere seconds. I would have limited damage to only apply when the chest gets hit, while you being invincible. And honestly, when i read the description i thought that would be the way it plays. It is not thought through. The limited ammo is discouraging to play further, it plays wonky and my first 4 minutes had me several times fall through the floor. I also cant agree to anyone claiming that this plays like a shooter from the 90s. Yeah? Which one? Exactly, none. All that this is, is a very stripped down version of Ziggurat. Or a fancier version of Devil Daggers, just with limited ammo, which you can only pick up while you carry a chest around, which no one would ever do with any game. On paper, this sounds nice, but the execution is bad and riddled with gamedesign flaws. I love oldschool shooters, but this one is just none. The only positive thing remaining are the visuals. Absolutely great. But the gameplay concept needs heavy tweaking to be enjoyable. What do you get: - One arena - One mode - a very limited options menu - one character to play - one weapon

Very fun lil survival shooter. Takes a bit of time to understand that the game wants you to be careful and figure out best choke points to destroy your enemies from, but when you do find some of those out, it's super satisfying. The graphics are also really amazing to me and I could just look at them for hours lol.
