If you are into RPG and even a little bit into survival/building games Unknown region is worth a look. Co-op, survival base building and vehicles this is not just a open world sandbox game There's much more to it.

This is a great game. Survive against mutated humans, creature, bears, wolves etc. The crafting system is incredible, very elaborate & well thought out, also with the newly added trader system. Work out how to craft scrap metal to make the game easier to survive. Building is enjoyable also but you can live in the RV at the spawn location & place objects inside. Congratulations to the Developer Sydney Games for producing this game.

So I've been playing the game for 30 minutes (till the moment i died while crafting :/ ) Suggestions: 1. A Map (at least don't know of), it doesn't have to show the players position but at least the buildings, forest and river would be nice. Couldn't find my home :) 2. Lowering the saturation a bit at least for the day. Because the bushes and stones etc are pretty bright. (Gamma & Saturation Scale?) 3. If you loot something so interact and press f to open its inventory you cant or at least I cant close it again with using f (I have to pause the game to close it) 4. Maybe a First Person Mode. I think it would be better for such game and more exciting. Bugs: 1. I think but dont know it that some zombies spawn in objects or in the floor. Sometimes I hear one next to me but there is nobody. 2. Dont know if wanted... Some Zombies disappear after being killed without the possibility to loot. Surprising Pros: 1. Ladders are working 2. You can pick up arrows again if you miss. 3. Reminds me of Rust combined with something like 7 Days to Die (Sort of) That's it for now. The Chance that I continue to play it is high but dont expect too much since I have other things to do. Soooo... I'm also going to refresh this review if I find other bugs or think of new suggestions. Great work

Unknown Region is definitely worth the price! I'm going to keep playing this and building up my level and base and i highly recommend other people play this game. I paid the full 15 dollar price tag for this game and i feel that it's worth at least just a little more and this game is WELL worth the price. While it seems to have a rather simplistic main menu that doesn't really bother me at all to much. The simplistic design is easy to pick up and navigate even in the control menu. Now the actual gameplay when starting a new world. You spawn in the world with a set of actual clothing and gear near a rather well stocked area. It doesn't hold your hand with a tutorial so it's not too difficult to figure out what you can do but when first starting and all you have is some clothes, a bow and a wooden mace it's a bit tricky to figure things out. Well, the 4 meters you have to keep track of are self explanatory. Health, hydration, stamina and hunger. Eat to fill your hunger, drink to fill your Hydration, rest to fill your stamina and use bandages, med-kits and such to heal yourself. Seriously the names alone should tell you how those four things work and they're literally in the bottom left corner of the screen so they aren't hard to keep track of. That's really it, They could look prettier or be set up a different way kind of like Don't starve Together or Fallout New Vegas Survival Mode with stats on how which food and drink or medicine will make "this' much of an impact to help those meters fill. While their is no tutorial for the game the game itself actually does a pretty decent job of making you use your common sense to figure out how to play it. Can i drink this water? Not from the creek. Can i drink this water? From the standing pond of course! if you have an empty bottle you can fill it. How can i cut down this tree? Well you can't punch it down. You have to craft an AXE to chop it down. Can i mine this ore deposit? Not without a pick-axe you can't. The game subtly forces you to think on your feet especially for the resources. You can search cars and local areas have random re-spawning items that you can go back to search and they may either have what you want or something you didn't realize you needed. Starting a base is rather difficult but that is how it would be in a setting like this and the difficulty spike is a bit larger than what it should reasonably be but that doesn't take away from what i was able to experience the short time i played it. I'm going to come back to this game more and more through the time i own this. Now onto the gripes or improvements that can be made. A toggleable tutorial in the options menu for one would be fine for people who don't like using their brains to figure things out. So when the tutorials box is checked when starting a new world a simple Popup UI that lets you click an Okay button would be just enough. When you first start a new world a simple tutorial could pop up telling the player to "press TAB" to open the character inventory and give a brief explanation on how the clothing, weight and crafting system works in that order. It would make it easier for people to understand and get a better grip on the gameplay. The tutorial can also briefly explain how when an item is crafted it can be placed in the hotbar for easy access and switching between them. Now the enemies in the game are actually very well made and i enjoy the designs of the mutants and how some other people will just randomly attack you for resources. The animals that are in the area actually fit rather well because they would have free reign after humans are gone. The mutant designs as i said are just amazing and very well designed as i LOVE the glowing parts and pieces to them and the sounds they make actually make me shudder in fear and i PRAY they didn't see my character. It's honestly a breath of fresh air from what everyone else gives out in a "survival craft" type game. Now for combat, While clunky and very simplistic with both animations and execution it is honestly not really a big deal at all for me as i did read the store page and it's one man working on this whole game. The combat is fine as is for what it's worth BUT the only problem i've had is the hit box on certain enemies such as snakes. The hitboxes for certain things in the world are also a bit off such as smaller trees and ponds where you can drink. The one that i'm more focused on here is the combat Hitboxes as it seems you can be hit from any direction which is a good thing as that's how you taking damage should be but animals such as Boars and snakes that i've run into i have a hard time trying to smack them because of the hitbox and it's a chore to land a blow on them. Despite this setback it is possible to hit them and i've enjoyed the feeling i get when i beat them. It's not a "oh god it's finally dead" kind of feeling as it's more of an "I freakin did it!" kind of feeling. Now the whole finding your own dead body after you first die is honestly something i never thought i'd see at all EVER. it is such an awesome feature PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE THAT! i love having to go and actually loot all my old gear from the corpse of my previous life! It is such a fun thing to experience and it's just fun to do. Now the whole system for looting that body is also perfect as i wouldn't change a thing. The item you pick up from the body such as the clothes ALSO bringing with it the items that were stored in those clothes? that is a damn good feature and i don't want that to change at all. Now the only problem i have with this feature is the fact the bodies disappear after such a short time in the world and that includes HOSTILE NPC's or Mutants and animals. I spent 10 minutes fighting a sniper knowing one hit from me will kill him and one hit from him will kill me and when i landed that blow i was ecstatic and ran to him. As soon as i got there i had to spend 20 seconds fighting a snake that came up and kill it so i could safely loot the hostile NPC and when that 20 seconds was up the NPC's body disappeared and I lost my chance at a weapon. Sad to say a BEAR heard the commotion and decided i looked tasty! I was crushed and eaten and i traveled all the way back to my corpse and got my stuff back. Now the last gripe i have is the crafting itself. The whole thing about the needed resources is just fine. I love it and would change absolutely NOTHING about it. It's perfect for the amount of items you need to craft to get certain things such as equipment and luxuries like beds. The thing that i'm more wanting to change is the crafting time for certain items. For smaller items like Arrows, nails and more of the smaller items i can see why it's such a low time for crafting. But the larger items take way to long to craft and that 30 seconds i'm stuck hiding building a bed to set my spawn point is kind of tedious and i feel that cutting that to about 12 or 14 seconds would be better. Same for the other larger items. The time is literally the only thing i have a problem with but that is only MY preference as i'm just impatient haha. Once more i HIGHLY recommend this game for anyone wanting an actual challenge in a "survival craft" genre game. It has a good spike of difficulty when first starting out but learning the UI, the crafting and weight systems and search functions are easy, fun and once you get it down the game opens up to be a lot of fun. I haven't really run into any glitches besides the janky hitboxes but again that's understandable as it's one person making this game. Now i'm going to back into my world and continue trying to build up my base! keep up the amazing work my dude.

"This game definitely has more potential but the developer seems to have stopped working on it. Dynamic weather, ambiance, and okay combat with a good amount of craftables and a decent sized map."
I've had contact with the developer
Update and Review change as of January 20th, 2024. I originally bought this game on sale and had a friend in Australia buy it so we could try it, right after their last update back in 2022. I talked directly with the developer on their Discord and it seemed they were going through some things but they had plans for the game and would come back. I then tried to reach out to them again through Discord like almost a year later and nothing. I think this game probably will never get another update, any additional bug fixes and not be expanded on. So purchase, even on big discount with caution and refund within the Steam Refund time frame/played hours if you have any doubts. I unfortunately after this amount of time have to change my review to Negative as of now. Original Review below The game is a bit tricky to review. I was impressed so much by some things that I definitely want more from others that have so much potential. For example, the ambiance is amazing in this game, but chopping a tree or mining ore could sound so underwhelming and not impactful. Then you turn around and fire a bow and it feels super impactful until you fire it like 6 or 7 times to kill a raccoon but maybe once to kill a standard zombie. Now don't think these are just complaints, they aren't, but rather they are just things that if they are brought up to the quality of the others would make the game so much better. I could talk quite a bit about this game but I'm just going to leave some Pros, some Cons and some Developer feedback. Hopefully with this information it will help you decide if the game is a good fit for you. We played about a 6hr session in just one day, and for me and $10 normal priced, I felt good about it. I ended up getting this on sale for like $1 and I couldn't be happier with that dollar purchase.
Pros:
- Ambiance - Most animations are good or at least decent - Combat feels impactful, especially the bow - Good amount of different things in the game to fight, at this point in the Early Access - Map size is decent with quite a few things to explore - All the beach locations feel super peaceful and tranquil if you just enjoy building - Trader in the game allows you to trade things you find or gather for things you cannot find - Good amount of graphics options to scale to a variety of different pc configurations - Good amount of things to craft - Everything feels pretty functional. Nothing felt like a place holder or it wasn't working. - Inventory system is very unique and makes sorting quite enjoyable - Human Npcs AI, animations and logic are all quite good and very fun to fight - Most sounds are good - Multiplayer worked pretty darn good with minimal lag - Dynamic weather is amazing. Seeing snow come in and slowly build up only to freeze a small river and make snow paths where you walk, fantastic! - Bird formations are strangely maybe the best I've seen in gaming? Odd thing to list but looking up in the sky and with the dynamic weather it just all looks nice. - Patches that have already addressed players complaints in the reviews, so a developer who listens to player feedback. - Great game for its version and 1 developer - Eating the food in the game actually pulls out the food and has an individual animation for eating it with appropriate sounds. Nice touch!
Cons:
- The sound for chopping trees and mining needs changed asap. It is servicable but feels out of place next to all the other good sounds in the game. - The buildings being a Point Of Interest on the map need to be more impactful. While you can find plenty of loot all over the game, these locations feel very empty. - If there are several human enemies to fight the corpses sometimes disappear too quickly because you cannot loot, sort and fight. They need a longer decay timer. - There should be an icon when you die for where your corpse is. This is just a Quality Of Life feature that would make the game easier for a lot of people. - Animal hit points need complete adjustment. A bear might go down with 3 shots but a raccoon might take 6. This is a simple fix. I'd recommend readjusting all their hit point values. - Same hit point problem with zombies. Zombies are mostly a joke due to 1 and 2 shot kills. I'm not suggesting making everything take a lot of hits, but they just need to scale appropriately for what threat you want them to be. As it is now, zombies are the easiest thing to kill. If you keep them with low hit points I'd suggest upping how many spawn in a similar area or something to create more player danger. Even with those cons listed, all our game time was very enjoyable. The things I listed above didn't make us not enjoy the game, they were just all things that stood out.
Developer Notes:
- Please make some good sounds for harvesting resources. You have so many good and great ones in the game, I know you can find some fantastic replacements. - I already posted on Discord but please check into multiplayer why the client may have problems drawing the bow to fire. It could have just been because we were playing Australia Host / US Client but the rest felt relatively lag free and worked great. - The hit points need adjusted on animals and zombies. - If you can find an animation for the spear to stab, I'd recommend it. Then I'd take the animation you currently have and apply it to a halbard or maybe great axe? - Maybe a suggestion for the Point Of Interest buildings you have that would fix two problems at once. Infest most, or at least many with tons of zombies and then turn up the loot that randomly spawns in there. Make people gear up and feel like it is an adventure to go in there. You could also turn up the values on dropping some of the most valuable resources in there if the challenge is hard enough. Keep on working on this. With your new lowered price point of $9.99 and everything you keep doing to fix and improve the game this game could really be an indie gem. You just need more eyes on it with more fixes in place. As it is right now it is still enjoyable and shows a lot of promise. We will keep a lookout for new updates and look forward to returning to Unknown Region. Thanks for making the game!

For it's price, it's a game I would not recommend to anyone. With a price tag of $29 but with a content of a $10 game it is too much for Early Access. I honestly don't know how to explain Unknown Region. It feels like the developer just threw in everything into the game just for the sake of it. Majority of creatures serves very little purpose in the game. Then there's your character whose solely purpose is to survive with very little time to actually build or craft anything. If you're lucky you get to drive a vehicle and pray it doesn't bug out. Without the vehicle you spend your time running around the map lost, that's if you are still alive avoiding NPCs with guns and RPGs. The worst part of it all are not the NPCs and farming for materials but having to continually search for Food and Drinks to consume because your Hunger and Thirst metre ticks down every 10 seconds, It may not sound much but if you consider that you only have 100 base hunger and thirst to begin with and continually on the move scavenging to survive that 100 drops considerably. Especially your thirst. As for the graphics, I've seen better on a $10 game with less glitches. For now not worth the $29 unless you like wasting your money on game such as Unknown Region. I'm not going to ask for a refund because I still have hopes. Until then I will keep an eye out for updates.

It's in very early stages. The game has some good ideas, but not that great a game yet. A lot of bugs. I would pay $5.00 in it's current state. Nothing more. I can't recommend the game in it's current state, but possibly later down the road. It's like "The Forest", but stripped down to almost nothing.

I could not get into this game. Graphically it is very dated and low quality, this could be overlooked if it was polished in other areas, but sadly at this time no. It feels like a bunch of random assets thrown into a low detailed, mostly empty and uninspired world. There are vehicles to be found, but again they are not themed in any particular way, I found a steampunk type car, then a scooter, I think there are more but I was busy trying to find some love for the game. Alas as with the games cohesion, logic and population of the world, it was missing. The dev needs to seriously work out where assets should go, have biomes or regions with animals and creatures populating those areas based on themes, right now they are just scattered around and making no sense at all. Due to how uninspired the world is, I did not explore base building. There was no where to be found an area where I thought "oh I would like to build here", instead I was searching for anything of interest to explore. I ended up refunding for now, I`ll watch this to see if it improves at all.

So full of bugs. Main screen at first is SO Dark that you cant read the adjustments. You get into game and can just fall through the earth on a trip etc and you lose everything and cant get anything you have gained back. Vehicles you find end up flipping over and you are supposed to hit E, but you get stuck inside and DIE and again lose everything and start over again. I love survival games but this has been the worse I think. I want a refund. Game is a lot like 7 days to die but has a long way to go yet. Thank you
