for lots of reasons this edition of port royale seems just really really badly ballanced and to be honest... quite boring. I really tried to get into it, because I very much enjoyed the previous titles. It just didn't happen. a lot of vital trade and economy mechanics just seem to be missing, it is near to impossible to keep control over your production needs and consumption (like... why can't I find a "total consumed/produced across all towns" statistic for goods?) pretty sure there used to be a 'even out goods across warehouses' function for trade routes... gone. you basically need to set up numerous reduntant trade routes, because you cannot unload/load from the same route, cause... loopy. but then your 'advisor' keeps nagging you about badly used and unprofitable trade routes. all in all... sadly unpleasant experience.

I'm a big fan of Partician IV which this game is an evolution of. Pat IV had 2 problems: the automation (trade routes) was too complex and cumbersome and the information you need to run the automation effectively was too hard to get. Here they've made the automation so seamless that you can run trade routes without putting any thought into them at all, but the information you need to make them well still very difficult to get to. I may not be the typical player, but what I want is easier access to that information.

Great game. Enjoy the mix of trading economics and naval combat. Playing through the 4 campaigns allowed me to figure out most of the game mechanics, still not got my head around the warehouse, but there are some fantastic guides made available on that. Overall really good, not sure why I did not play it sooner... have been wanting to play for years and only got it recently as it was on sale. I would have bought it for more had I known how awesome it is.
