The feel of the game mechanics and animations is absolutely atrocious. If you think Skyrim feels slugish in it´s movements that is this just 10 times worse in all aspects. I have been playing Videogames for over 25 years and I just refuse to bear this. Modernise your damn engine that is not only stuck in the stone age but all others aspects just completely unfraindly to any Gamers.
And they didn´t improve on any of these aspects whatsoever in the sequels, so SANDLOT just does not care. And if they can´t be bothered to care then why should I.

A classic that burned its name in my head, when I was a child. A family member destroyed the disc one day.
Here we are again in a new era of defending the Earth. Slept on by most (I recommend getting it on sale)

The waves became exhausting. It was fun for a time, but getting overwhelmed by "humanoid Aliens" most times with my team, was rough.

This is actual peak fun co-op arcade shooting. Insane amount of content and variation and a REALLY wide 'easy to pick up / hard to master' spectrum. I can easily see people (including myself) pump hundreds of hours into this.

Pretty standard for the EDF series. Giant monsters and/or aliens and/or death machines invade, you go out with your bottomless ammo supply and shoot. Once either they or you are dead, the mission ends and you pick another one. There's four classes, all a bit different to play, co-op is available (but not required) and the different available difficulties all have different chances of dropping crazy OP weapons (that would probably violate various conventions were they to exist in real life) for you to play with. Finally, as is consistent with the EDF series, easier modes are, well... easy, while harder ones can push your ability to survive to the absolute limit of your kit (unless of course you just grind out infinite health upgrades or something similar but hey, whatever works for you).
It's fun, it doesn't try to addict you to any gougey gacha systems, or have second-job-level grind, and it's playable offline. In this day and age that's pretty commendable.

It gives me a feeling of RoR2, but without the invasion of privacy. Super fun alone, even more fun with friends! There's a bit of humor to it also, not to mention sexy wing divers!

I'll attempt to convey the feel of this game;
The weapons are loaded with excessive background descriptions and details that have little to do with the experience of learning them in game, in your hands yourself, the mechanics are infuriating, the vehicles feel like they're made of cardboard unless you have the dlc mechs, playing as foot soldiers teaches you just how important not being in a bad position is - but for some dam reason this game is some of the most fun I've ever had with 4 others and I can't recommend enough that you get destroyed, learn and immerse yourself into this absurd survival third person shooter. Also, just a tip for beginners, while you do your best, even if you fall, just scream EDF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's about honor, that you tried, but you keep the dream alive.

EDF 5 is a puzzle game in horde shooter paint. The game will give you a battlefield and you have to solve it by coordinating loadouts with teammates. It feels like an arcade game with how much it prioritizes gameplay compared to modern games today.
Level design has greatly improved compared to 4.1 because every mission had a unique challenge while 4.1 has its filler levels.
The enemies are better balanced compared to EDF 4.1 such as spiders not having as many threads that immobilize and instantly melt you. Although Deroy laser modules and laser Cosmonauts are super accurate. The game was perfect with two players on Hard and had the perfect difficulty curve of needing to strategize loadouts especially when a certain amount of picked up item/armor boxes are kept when failing which depends on the difficulty.
The few standout enemy ai are the bees, bipedal frogs, and Cosmonauts. Bees will fly away when you approach them but will approach you if you move away. The frogs and Cosmonauts can take cover near buldings and can lose sight of you which is honestly better than most games today.
Enemy dismemberment is present and can help by keeping bipedal troopers from moving or obliterating their arms so that they cannot wield their weapons. It's also satisfying for monsters to be dismembered upon death with certain weapons.
Only a few of the last 10 missions felt nearly impossible to do with two players when there were just too much enemy variety to cover with two players. Compared to 4.1 which felt impossible with two players on Hard. Enemies hit way too hard and accurately while health boxes were rare and failing gave no rewards.
Story isn't amazing but it's immersive and unobtrusive. Lines are very corny but it's always treated seriously. It's also unobtrusive as story updates are given via radio transmissions during gameplay. It may seem odd but since it plays passively, you can choose to listen or to ignore them. No cutscenes or dialogue to interrupt gameplay.
Downsides are that the game is locked to 60 fps, more optimization would be preferable since frame drops can happen, and the progression system is better but still pretty bad. The music is worse than 4.1 unfortunately.
The progression system are enemies dropping armor or weapon boxes. Armor boxes increases armor which is basically health and unfortunately, you do not get enough armor boxes through regular play to reach the armor cap of the level.
Weapon boxes drop weapons equipment that are biased towards your current class. Except they can be upgraded if you get the same drop with a better stat. Gear at their base are trash until you get upgrades. It's not guaranteed what gear drop you get and you could get duplicates without an upgrade.
Overall, it's an amazing game that prioritizes gameplay and is refreshing compared to modern games today that prioritize macrotransactions, a story driven narrative, etc. It feels like a game and not some commitment that requires daily logins and grinding gear for numerical stat upgrades.
EDF 4.1 does better in music and maybe the more arcade-y style graphics with the reflective metal of certain enemies. But 5 is such a massive improvement in regards to class gameplay, enemy balance, and level design that it's hard to recommend 4.1 over 5.
