TrackMania² Canyon is one of the environments in the TrackMania² series, developed by Nadeo. It introduces realistic canyon-style tracks, drifty car physics, and visually stunning landscapes. While it attempts to bring something fresh to the franchise, a lack of variety, odd handling mechanics, and questionable business decisions hold it back from being a must-play.
What Works Well?
🌄 Beautiful Canyon Environment
The high cliffs, winding roads, and sunset lighting create a visually immersive setting. The game still holds up graphically and feels smooth at high frame rates.
🏎️ Drift-Focused Driving
The handling in Canyon is more slide-heavy than other TrackMania titles. Drifting around corners feels satisfying when done correctly, offering a different driving experience.
🛠️ Track Editor & Modding Support
Like other TrackMania games, Canyon has a powerful track editor, allowing players to create custom tracks, ramps, loops, and stunt-heavy courses.
🏆 Strong Competitive Scene
While less popular than TrackMania Stadium, Canyon still has an active competitive community, with time trials and multiplayer races keeping the game alive.
What Holds It Back?
❌ Limited Content & Track Variety
Unlike other TrackMania environments, Canyon feels repetitive. There’s only one car type, and the tracks lack the insane creativity of Stadium or Valley.
❌ Unintuitive Car Handling
While drifting is fun, it feels inconsistent and clunky at times. The physics are less precise than Stadium, making high-speed technical sections frustrating rather than rewarding.
❌ Splitting the Community
Instead of combining all environments into one game, Ubisoft/Nadeo forced players to buy each TrackMania² environment separately. This fragmented the player base, making online multiplayer less populated.
❌ No Real Progression System
There’s no career mode, unlocks, or meaningful progression, which limits long-term engagement outside of personal time trials and custom tracks.
Conclusion
TrackMania² Canyon had the potential to be a great addition to the series, but its limited variety, awkward driving physics, and fractured player base make it one of the weaker TrackMania entries. If you love drifty arcade racing, it might be worth a try, but Stadium or even the newer TrackMania (2020) offer a much better experience.
Rating: 5/10 – A visually impressive but ultimately underwhelming TrackMania entry. 🚗💨
