This is a review after reading half of 380+ pages manual and playing a couple of small scenarios. So this is stilll a review based on first impressions, rather full insight into details ;)
But wow - this game is complex in the best meaning of the word. If you like complexity - that is the game for you. If you like board games - that is the game for you. If you are not afraid of some micromanagement - that is the game for you. If you like Aurora (best 4x game ever) - WitE is a game for you! You need to invest some time to understand the game... But unlike with many other games - the more you get to know, the more it is clear to you that the game is really well done.
To be honest - I must point out that there are downsides:
- price - 70 EUR is a joke - I bought at summer sale for 30+ - still too much, but I could not resist the temptation :)
- "moderate" user friendlines - interface and some aspects of map display (e.g. OOB) could easily be better;
- learnign curve - it is steep :) - full campaigns seem overwhelming due to sheer number of units and issues (logistics!);
- "racing" scenarios - by nature I am a bit slow and cautious, therefore I do not like some of the short offensive scenarios which tend to become a race to the target - it is not at all that primitive as in Panzer Commander and Panzer Corps series, but still it is not to my liking!
