Before I start, a little premise: this game is still in early access, it is still in its infancy, so it will probably change a lot in the future, and more content will be added soon, so take my review for what it is, i.e., my personal impressions on a still incomplete, albeit totally playable and totally enjoyable game. Skinwalker Hunt is a hunting game where you have to track and kill a legendary creature in two different locations (I tried only one so far), while trying to survive in the hostile environment full of possessed beasts and paranormal activity. To achieve your goal, you can use a very precise sniper rifle, a powerful double barreled shotgun, a handy tomahawk, and even some nasty bear traps. The skinwalker is VERY tough and VERY difficult to kill, because he immediately flees as soon as you hit him, and he is so fast that he can cross the entire map in a matter of seconds. So you have to track and shoot him multiple times in order to finally strike him down. You can use several different methods to find out where he is, but I won't talk about that because it would be a huge spoiler. This game is the direct descendant of Witch Hunt, the best game of Vintsevich in my opinion (I apologize if I wrote the name wrong), and it offers many interesting improvements compared to its predecessor. I appreciated the possibility to craft healing items, the possibility to freely place save points wherever you want on the map, the presence of an indicator of your position on said map, the multiple possible interactions with the surrounding environment, the efficient modern day weapons, the high variety of tracking methods, and the main enemy design, which strongly reminded me of the legendary wendigos (maybe he is even the same creature?). But I also think Witch Hunt was superior in many aspects. It was more fast-paced, the mob enemies were much cooler, the overall atmosphere was much more scary, and, above all, the preys posed a much higher challenge. They were easier to find, but, when attacked, they fought back viciously instead of immediately run away, so every encounter was a real fight to death, instead of a fast event lasting just a few seconds. This is the main problem of Skinwalker Hunt in my opinion. For most of the time you just wander and explore, which is fun in itself, but then, when you finally encounter the beast, you just shoot him once and see him disappear in the forest like a coward. It is a bit disappointing. I remember fighting the witch in the previous game for minutes and minutes at every single encounter, while feeling the adrenaline flow in my blood for the tension. It was a totally different experience. However, I understand that a new game doesn't have to be necessarily a copy of its predecessor, it can have its own style and its own vibes, so this is entirely a matter of tastes actually. I liked Witch Hunt more, but you may like this game more instead, it's totally up to you. And, of course, I understand that this game is still in active development, so I'm sure that there is much more to come, and that we will see it change and improve a lot. Technically, this game is already very well done as an early access, and it can offer a lot of fun if approached in the right way. So I definitely recommend it, and I undoubtedly look forward to seeing how cool it will become in the next future. Overall, excellent work so far!
Cheers guys!
