GENEALOGY OF THE HOLY WAR

[strike]Disclaimer: I have not completed the game yet, but I think I've played enough to give a fair assesment.[/strike] Having completed the game, my thoughts have remained pretty much the same. I can say with confidence the game deserves all the praise I gave it, and I'm looking forward to the sequels even more. Vestaria Saga, despite looking like a very simple, almost unpolished SRPG Studio game at first, is one of the most refined and fun SRPGS on the market. Shouzou Kaga, famous for being the father of Fire Emblem, has almost 30 years of experience in the genre, and it definitely shows: maps are varied, full of side objectives and rarely linear, while units all manage to differentiate themselves from other members of their class, avoiding being just stat blobs with no interesting qualities, like in some of the more recent FE titles. Story and character wise, Kaga once again struck gold. The plot might not be revolutionary, but the writing is stellar, and with a localization to match. Every single character, from the main lords to random axe dude #2, develops in meaningful story related conversations and events, much more impactful than the usual support conversations. Presentation wise, the game is obviously not the best. While it does have a good OST and the portrait art is usually quite good, the animations aren't the best, and the map sprites look a bit too chibi for my liking. Still, for being an SRPG maker game, it doesn't look terrible. I can't really recommend this game enough to any fan of the genre, and even people looking to get into it. It's a master class on SRPG design, and hopefully we can look forward to a localization of the other games in the series.

Gioco consigliato esclusivamente a chi è avvezzo con questa tipologia di giochi, alla Fire Emblem per intenderci. Il titolo infatti tenta di riproporre l'ambientazione e il feeling con la serie citata, ci riesce un pò a tentoni. Personalmente, nonostante ami la serie di Intelligent System (soprattutto i capitoli usciti da Path of Radiance in poi) , non sono mai stato attratto dal metodo usato per narrare la trama, che si dirama tra schermate di dialogo alla Visual Novel maniera e questo titolo non fa differenza, e per molti potrebbe essere un problema (come per il sottoscritto). Ho giocato troppe poche ore per dirvi se la storia merita effettivamente o meno, ma da quello che ho visto non mi dispiace troppo anche se è più o meno il solito incipit che utilizzavano i primi FE. Ciò detto, questo Vestaria si fa giocare e, come anticipato all'inizio della recensione, chi è fan accanito della serie di FE riuscirà ad apprezzare anche questa serie che per ora conta 2 capitoli.
