I'll give it a thumbs up because, overall, it's a good game. If there weren’t a better alternative out there, I’d probably call this a very good game. But there is an alternative — and it’s better (Stellaris!) Here’s what I liked: - The galaxy generation and customization options are great. - I appreciate the ship design system, but it’s too obscure and lacks proper explanation or documentation. - The concept of a private economy is interesting — I like how mining and trade are handled without too much micromanagement. - However, it doesn’t make much sense for a hive-minded insectoid species to have a private sector at all. There are some great ideas here, but they’re weighed down by significant issues: - Automation works well in some areas, but is completely unreliable in others — especially military movement, defense, and attacks. That’s fine if you want players to handle it manually, but if you offer automation, it needs to work. - The user experience is extremely poor: counterintuitive, confusing, and clunky. Even after 10+ hours, I was still struggling to find the right menus or commands. - Managing more than 50 colonies becomes a nightmare. It’s hard to spot them on the map, let alone your fleets, borders, or even other empires' territory. - Unit icons and UI symbols are messy and unclear. - The races feel bland and unmemorable — plus, you can’t customize them. - Governments are purely cosmetic; they don’t seem to affect gameplay in any meaningful way. - Leaders, generals, characters — the system is very underwhelming and lacks depth. - There’s no clear way to understand your imports/exports or who you're trading with — which is crucial, since the economy and taxation depend heavily on these mechanics. - There are so many different resources, especially luxury ones, that it becomes overwhelming. It’s hard to figure out what’s where on the map. In summary: it’s an okay game, with a lot of potential. But Stellaris is better — even with its issues, like doomstacks and imperfect combat. At least you can manage your empire without going insane trying to track resources or fleets. And yes, Stellaris costs significantly more, but you get what you pay for.
