This game is the opposite of Danganronpa: the plot and the characters are realist and nuanced, though they can be a little boring. But where Danganronpa make investigations and trials energetic, intense and intellectually satisfying, in this game they are DREADFULLY BORING. See, each time something happen(which most of the time won't even be a murder), you will be presented with around 10 elements of discussions. These elements of discussion are in general anecdotic, redundants and uninteresting. Just reading the name give you all the informations you need half of the time and they can mostly be resumed in one-two sentence.
And then, for each of these element, you will have to go to someone and engage a conversation with them.
That will last 1-2 min and cannot be easily sped up because of mini cutscene of facial expressions changing and the need to choose between two reactions from time to time. I will talk about those reactions later.
Since the elements are uninteresting and there is little to be said about them, the conversation will be mostly filled with the first character saying how they feel about it, then the protagonist reacting, then the interlocutor reacting to the reactions...ect.
Okay, 15 minutes later, you finished. Now that the boring stuff is behind us, ready to make work those braincells to reach shrewd conclusions?
Too bad, because you will now need to do that with each of the 3-5 characters present. Each with their slightly different reaction to the element, which will 90% of the time be absolutely worthless. You could do a drinking game counting the number of time the characters say "well the first thing we need to do is escape,we'll deal with the rest later" or a variation of "was this bad thing the souless idol corporation acceptable if it's to make the show mroe intersting? No,they've gone to far."
Eventually, you will unlock 5-10 new element of discussion. Elements, that will themselves need to be engaged.
If you add the fake twitter which you need to scroll trough to unlock yet more elements of discussion, you easily double the number of dialogue you will have. Reminge, you can't skip the dialogues or gloss over them, and if you don't follow them you won't be able to make the right reactions.
Are you beginning to see the problem?
Eventually, you will unlock all keywords and be allowed to proceed.
After pondering wether or not it is worth finishing using the unused keyword , or even if it was worth playing at all ,you will be given some questions to answer, and you will need to pick the right elements in the right order. Vastly inferior to Danganronpa or Ace attorney, the questions are ambiguous and vague and the right answer arbitrary, and unlike the aforementioend game there will rarely be any dramatic conclusion or new element beign brought in, so don't expect much tension or plot twist. Anyway those segments are rather short, and will last from 2 to 20 minute.
I won't talk about the visual novel part of th game much, these are good and take a decent portion of the game.
Still at least two time less than the reocuring conversations segments , which will take tenth of hours.
There's also a system of relation and mental health to manage. Theoretically, if it get too low some characters won't cooperate,or you will black out. The problem is ,it is almost entirely random, since even picking a keyword to dicuss can lower/increase rapport and sanity. Reactions are the same, but they are also rather arbitrary and sometime it's hard to tell what is the real difference between the two options.
Eventually, you will reach an ending .
And you will have to doit again ,from scratch,to obtain a different ending. More than half of the conversatiosn you will have will be exactly the same than before.
Play an hour of this game, and if you find it boring, get a refund, buy the ost for support and watch a video of the game on Youtube, it's much more enjoyable.
