Probably the best alternative to Stardew Valley. The developers follow the roadmap and frequently update their game with feedback from the community!

Stardew Valley meets Sailor Moon. :-)

This game is adorable. It has been quite a while since a game has had me that much in its grip. I tried to get into Stardew Valley a couple of years ago but I couldn't really, so I was skeptical about this game. What struck me the most immediately was the absolutely adorable art style in this game and that is what sticks out to me, still. All imagery, whether it's the character drawings or the small sprites are beautiful. The characters are all worth remembering and have enough of a character to quickly pick a favorite. The dialogue is well written and sometimes downright hilarious. The immersion of this game is probably what adds to its addictive nature. The gameplay in itself offers a multitude of things to do so that you can easily switch between tasks if one of them bores you. I am very curious to see how much further NPC studios take this!

Before I start the review I think I should preface that I don't want to compare it fully to Stardew Valley like some others have. Stardew Valley might have started a renewal of the Cosy Game/Farmin-Sim Genre, but it wasn't the only game that came out, especially given that SV was inspired by Harvest Moon. And during the years Cosy Games/Farming-Sims were able to take inspirations from all the other Cosy Games/Farmin-Sims that came out after the old Harvest Moon, Story of Season games and Stardew Valley, and therefore could improve on all the things players took note of that they liked to have in those games. Concluding this I would like to compare Fields of Mistria rather with games like Sun Haven or Coral Island. Especially since both games also were first in Early Access and are also still updated. Additionally, both are "younger" Cosy Games with inspirations from older Cosy Games/Farming-Sims. Fields of Mistria, by the time of writing this review has gotten its second major update. I stopped myself from playing for now so that I can continue playing with more updated game elements after the third major update. The game fields already very polished for it being an Early Access game. - The mines can be explored until levels 80 (total of 100) - The town rank can be upgraded up to the second highest rank - Automation of the farm is already pretty good and easily achieved - The romance of the Bachelors/Bachelorettes is currently locked by 6 hearts and will be further developed with the next update (as far as I know, and the roadmap says) - The progression of the town rank is also very easy to get into. You do classic Cosy Game stuff. Fishing, donating stuff, archeology, donating produce, even your shipped produce counts. Now some pros: - The town and its inhabitants feel incredible vibrant and dynamic already. In previous Cosy Games, and Fields of Mistria's competitor Sun Haven, I had the feeling that the townsfolk didn't interact all too much or had a great dynamic dialogue. In Fields of Mistria you do get the feeling that the whole town knows about the circumstances, some grew up with each other, and so on (Similarly to Coral Island). Additionally when you donate things to the museum, dialogue lines will appear, if you start to get closer to someone, other townsfolk will take note of that, and so on. It makes the game a lot more engaging and fun to actually engage with every single person. - The soundtrack is lovely and when the season change it really fits well. - The graphics give the game a lite nostalgic feeling, coupled with the fitting sprites of the NPCs is great. Some sprites are a bit eeh, but still fitting for the character. And I still fell in love with them. - There's no annoying fishing minigame. Fighting is intuitive, as are other skills. - The NPCs all have varying personalities with depth instead of being one-dimensional (looking at Stardew) - A lovely way to get to know all characters, if you are a busy-bee, is the weekly "Friday Night at the Inn." where all NPCs gather at the Inn and do various things, like playing an in-game version of DnD. Now some cons: - Obviously, due to the Early Access, there is still some lacking content. Due to that (I'm currently in year 2) I have repeating lines during events, the "Friday Night at the Inn." feels a bit lacking, and I can't further progress in the mines, and I'm lacking a Bachelorette, while also not being able to complete the romance with characters. NONETHELESS, this con is to be taken with a grain of salt, given that this "con" is subject to change with updates. - As of right now, grass starters don't further grow which makes it quite obnoxious to feed farm animals outside of the barn, given the resource-heavy way to craft them, as you are unable to buy them (contrary to Sun Haven/Coral Island). - The way to get certain donation objects (artifacts, fishes, insects, etc.) is sometimes very RNG, but worse than other games of a similar genre. I currently have been spending over 2 in-game months hunting one specfic rare bug for a NPC quest which I also need to then donate. There would be the need to adjust the spawn chances a bit for me to make bug hunting more enjoyable and be less annoyed with, especially given that there are skill perks that make spawn chances higher. - Teleportation exists from the farm to the Deep Woods and back, but not from the farm to the mines. Only from the Mines to the farm. Which makes for a slight time loss, when you already spend quite a lot of time feeding your animals, petting them, then getting to the mines, and having then find the ladders. Being able to teleport there, once you have unlocked it would be good. As you can see. Those are minor cons. Especially given that the game isn't fully out yet, and major updates will still be released, and the devs listen to community feedback. I do recommend the game highly since I haven't really found a Cosy Game as good as this in Early Access as this one, and I'm really looking forward what will come.

Absolut geniales Spiel bisher!
