I love Fields of Mistria's aesthetic, and I really wish I could enjoy this game more, but I had a creepy bug where all my items disappeared one day after I bought the game. So... I don't know, maybe I'll give it another chance in the future, after it's better cooked.

FIELDS OF MISTRIA Fields of mistria taught me that virtual chores are somehow more addictive than real ones. I downloaded it for the farming, stayed for the romance, got trapped in the mines. Please send snacks. Okay fields of mistria is one of the best early access games with the smallest details visible. The game gives your about 50 hours of game play depending how fast you are with completing stuff. The game is a new obsession, AN addiction. It's filled with beautiful pastel colours, gorgeous characters that each have different outfits for every seasons. The villagers hang out together and you can see them interacting with each other throughout the game, the Friday night's at the Inn is always my favourite for gossip and lore. I think the dialogue of the characters are really well written and they all have a nice piece of depth to each of them. The whole setup of the game is really good. There isn't a stale moment. There is always something to do. The community/town upgrades are fun. The bugs you have to catch is a nice addition. The museum is super fun and has some great rewards regarding furniture. WE CAN JUMP IN THE WATER and find dive spots, which i think is a pretty nice feature lmaoooo, the fishing is fun, easy and relaxing. The mines are incredible. I love each level there is and the enemies are pretty great too. All the levels of the mines are promising and super fun. I think the whole style of the game just works. The skill point system is easy and gives you a lot of upgrades and things to unlock. I really like the fact that you can craft things without it having to be in your inventory. But most importantly the DETAILS for early access is insane. I was walking into Hayden's one night as march and the others were drinking beer and when i came back later the night the glasses became empty. Same with when you're walking on the wet soil after watering crops your little footprints are visible. The villagers telling you some backstory about the Artifacts are genuinely a nice detail. Farming is satisfying and fun like any other farming game, this is more unique in that aspects with the skill upgrades and makes the experience overall pleasing. There is a lot more, the game is incredible for an early access game. also... THE ANIMALS ARE SO CUTE!!!! PLEASE. The little bows and things you can put on them STOP IT. My heart. I love all the animals. Now with every early access game we need to take into consideration that the game isn't nearly done with it's constant updates still coming. I listed all my pro's but I do have some con's too : > I do think the mini icons on the map are just way too small and less detailed for me to figure out which villager is which in some cases. I wish that if you hovered over the icon of the villager that it would at least say what villager it was. Though it's only with some villagers > Bigger chests are needed, as well as stacking items, but for the July 21st update they are already implementing it so that's a big win. > SPLITTING stacks. You have to individually click an item until you get the number of items you want from a stack. I don't know if that will be in the July update but if not hopefully in the future! > It's not a major issue, though i would have liked if we could sell our crops to the vendors in the general store and not have to wait the following morning for it to be sold through the shipping bin. > Way's to actually get more mana potions would be a great addition even if cooking sometimes give you a mana orb now, I still think a way to craft it or even buy it would be great. Now enough said. This game will be even bigger than it is now. And it will be worth every penny and every minute of your time! I'm super excited to see the journey until the full release!

As it sits now, it isn't horrible, but I can't recommend it. The standard fare for 'cozy' games is all here, fishing, farming, ect. Think Stardew, but with magic that doesn't really get utilized all too much. The map is large, which is great, but the implemented time limit for the standard day is way too short to accomplish much. It leaves you feeling rushed and not able to enjoy much that the day does have to offer. And on a personal note, I'm getting tired of the 'tsundere' type characters, at least let me be rude back to them.

Stardew Valley with a shoujo anime inspired artstyle and many quality of life improvements. Love it.

Everyone in this game is so flawlessly perfect and happy all the time that playing it actually manages to make me feel worse somehow. The triviality of the characters' requests makes you feel like an errand girl, and despite the constant encouragement to participate in festivals, the fact is that you live on the outskirts and all you're ever doing is watching all of these perfect, hot, stylish people interact, occasionally fetching items for them or answering trivial questions to sate their curiosity. This is only compounded by the way that you're passive aggressively coerced into personally funding all of the town's projects ("Well, we did give you free land..."). Because of the dissonance between the limited interactions available to you as a player and the seemingly deep and interconnected lives of the villagers (on account of their being NPCs who can have backstories and relationships), you just feel like a perpetual outsider. It's a difficult feeling to put into words... like hanging out with someone else's family or friends, or joining a pen and paper campaign six months in. But also, I might be crazy and this might be my own issues rearing their collective heads. Beyond that, it's just not doing anything new. Farm, fish, pick berries, mine... it's literally just Stardew, but with no mods, no multiplayer, and an insanely short day length (12 minutes or so). Contributing to the time issue is that the maps are huge, and not in an appealing way where there are loads of secrets to discover or sights to see. They're just massive and empty, with many NPCs and critical locations at the far edges, making it so that you can only really do one thing on any given day simply because of how long it's going to take you to walk anywhere. I dunno, man. Maybe something will change during development, but I doubt it. The issue is likely just that this game isn't for me, so if you're a miserable, pessimistic wretch, maybe just steer clear.

Scratches every itch that Stardew Valley does, while also having a strong identity of its own AND making some beautiful quality of life improvements to the farming sim formula. Has a super satisfying game play loop that makes you constantly want to play for 'just one more day'. Despite being in early access it still has PLENTY of content and feels very polished, so don't let it put you off. I'm VERY excited to see how the game develops further as it approaches full release.

It's maybe my favorite farming sim ever? And I've been playing farming sims for 25 years. Every harvest moon/story of seasons I could get my hands on, stardew, etc. Top 5 best parts: 1. Characters/Dialogue - expansive and varied dialog with great characters characters, can talk to each multiple times a day and hear different relevant stuff. This is by far the biggest standout. It almost feels like no one has ever said the same thing twice (probably an exaggeration) even though I have been talking to them for two seasons in game often multiple times a day. 2. Small Tweaks - Great quality of life tweaks (eg bottomless watering can) 3. Casual Events - weekly "get togethers" where you can see everyone 4. Relaxed Requests and Missions -requests/town upgrade missions that don't expire and let you set your own pace while giving you things to work towards 5. Unique skill and crafting systems - Skill building and crafting systems are well thought out and satisfying / different and refreshing, keeping it from being too comparable to previous farming sims Super fun. Can't believe the price

I would like to briefly compare this game with Stardew Valley. Firstly, as someone who has played Stardew Valley for more than 170 hours, I can say that this game offers better solutions for some of the more frustrating mechanics found in Stardew Valley. For instance, in Stardew Valley, the player must end the day to save the game. However, in Fields of Mistria, it’s possible to save at any time using a diary at home. Secondly, although Fields of Mistria copies some features from Stardew Valley, it also introduces new and original mechanics that make the game more fun and addictive. Lastly, I believe this game has a lot of potential with future updates and may even compete with Stardew Valley itself—especially since it is still in development.

This review is going to be quite a bit more critical than most I've read through, so I'm first going to say that I do really enjoy what the game has to offer so far. My overall rating as a full game would be about an 8/10, and that's without being complete. Considering its EA state, 9/10 is probably more appropriate for me. At the time of writing, I've played through the middle of year two summer and the last major update was the March 2025 update, so the review may be out of date if you're reading in the future. I'm going to split this review up into sections mostly based off skills, with a select few other sections for relationships/music/art/etc. Without further ado, let's get into the review.
Relationships/Socialization - 9/10
Going into the game, I had heard the most about how good the socialization is in this game. And I think it's safe to say that it (mostly) lives up to that. The most significant improvement over a game like Stardew Valley is how often the other villagers talk to each other. It's most noticeable during Friday Night at the Inn, which has groups that have ongoing storylines that change periodically as to not get stale. But even outside of that, if you see two or more NPCs next to each other, you'll often find them talking to each other already. It's a really nice touch that makes the world feel more lived in and more like an actual town. Outside of group conversations, NPCs will commonly talk about things that you're currently doing like quests or about items you've recently donated to the museum. All in all, nothing but great things to say about regular socialization Where I feel FoM suffers a little is actually in the set scenes. Currently the heart events only exist for romanceable NPCs, and they feel a little lacking. Considering festival spoiler
Festival of Stars
has explicit romantic implications that unlocks at 4 hearts, there's shockingly little romantic progression/implications in most of the six heart cutscenes. Outside of heart events, the 2 of 3 festivals also are a bit underwhelming. The
Animal Festival
is quite good and feels like an actual event, while the other are very flat.
Farming - 8/10
Satisfying in the same way that Stardew Valley is mostly. Item pickup needs to be quicker and a little wider. Overall, but particularly noticeable in farming once you get a particular skill later. Crop prices could use some balance. As it stands, it's always better to go for the regrowable crops. They're so much better it's somewhat ridiculous, both in profit and effort. There's eventual automation to help grow larger crop fields, but they're frankly somewhat bad in the current update. Late game spoiler:
And the sprinklers cover a 5x5 area bizarrely. Why is this not 6x6 to match with gold tools? Hopefully this is addressed in a future update, along with more permanent sprinklers.

Fishing
- 6/10 Very little to say, just that I find it lackluster and just a time filler. It's fishing in the same vein as Animal Crossing, which isn't my cup of tea. But some might prefer this to an actual minigame like Stardew has. Mechanically, it uses too much energy and the skill levels up way too slow. This is the only skill I don't have currently maxed out, and I've caught everything needed except
Fall and Winter Legendary Fish
. Fish either need to be more useful or the skill should level up significantly faster.
Archaeology - 7/10
It's fine. See a bump, dig it up. Some RNG here, but I've managed to complete every set expect for the
Ritual Set
without much issue. Very little value after completing museum though.
Cooking - 8/10
First off, it's actually useful. Which is compared to Stardew Valley. My problem with it is exactly that though, in it's current iteration it's simply too useful. The biggest offender here being a skill unlocked later that allows you to cook
loved gifts
. It alone completely removes any incentive to actually use the gift system for relationship progression. A simple fix would be one that already exists for
mana food
, just lock it to higher tier recipes. When the most profitable thing you can do is grow and cook a single ingredient regrowable crop, that shouldn't also be the best way to recover energy and cheese the relationship system.
Ranching - 8/10
The animals are adorable, but a bit of a pain. The game wants to encourage you to breed for higher tier animals, but doing so almost demands getting rid of your lower tier ones periodically, which restricts how many animal products you get. Additionally, feeding them is a pain without dedicating crop fields for them. Just let us build a silo. A late game problem, eventually animals only produce
golden prouducts
, which aren't interchangeable with base products. Not a big deal for me currently, but could eventually be.
Woodcrafting - 8/10
A ton of cute stuff to craft. But the trees need to drop way more wood from the start. It's constantly a pressure point throughout story progression. [To be finished later]
