It's rare that I don't reccomend a game, as I always try to see the hard work and dedication that's behind it.
And there are a lot of positive things to say about The Last Case Of Benedict Fox. First of all, the aesthetics are gorgeous, the voice acting is fine and the gameplay is very decent. The puzzles were quite some fun and I had my joy exploring the map, the overworld (or, the little area that's the overwold) and the limbo. I also liked a fact that a lot of people criticize: the very very short tutorial and how you have to make sense of the story yourself.
That being said, it still is one of my negative points: you don't get much to figure it out in the beginning and the story takes it sweet time to really progress and give you something to work with. Personally, I also liked how the relationship with the demon develops, but you don't get much background information on how the two of them really came to be and what had happened in the past that is apparently relevant for the present. A lot of plot points tease at something without ever getting fleshed out - another pity, really.
The difficulty has three options:
Easy: You kill everything with one hit
Hard: everything kills you with one hit
Default: You need to land a few hits and so does the enemy
The Exploration Settings are a little better and what I might add, you can always change the settings at will, if you're not in a bossfight.
The game also did not feel like a Metroidvania, which is a pity, because it's still a decent game - or it would be, if the performance was better. I had a massive problem with framerate drops after an hour of playing the game on a mid range gaming PC. From what I gathered, the problem is known to the developers and yet it wasn't fixed. It's really a pity.
Overally, I don't recommend the game. It is advertised as a Metroidvania and fails to keep that up, It's not a bad game but not a good one either. A lot of other people have mentioned other negative points or the same I did. It's your decision.

Ein Action-Rätselspiel mit durchaus spannender Story, aber teils fragwürdigen Gameplay-Elementen. Trotzdem empfehlenswert.
