As a fan of H. P. Lovecraft I was really interested in this game. The elements and characters taken from the short story are true to the plot and feel authentic. Also the places where the story unfolds are made with care and really feel like the 1930s Arkham. It´s a pity that there´s no voice acting but I can live with that. Unfortunately the gameplay mechanics are what kill the mood and make Dreams in the Witch House dragging for me. You play ona day at a time and next to the story you have to do everyday things like eating, sleeping and resting. To keep the health and sanity up it must be ensured that Walter Gilman has enough money and can get quality rest. He can also get sick or hurt during the game which ensures great detail but there was the trouble for me. Because the time for a day is limited, there are just as much things for the main character to do until shops close, people go to their job etc. If Walter gets sick for example I had to spend days trying to get him back to health or working odd jobs to earn money for food. Those things made Dreams in the Witch House a drag for me as I had no time to advance the story. Another important part are upcoming events like lectures and exams. You have to study books which also takes time and is important for passing the exams. All these details caused a slow moving development for me and decreased the fun and motivation to move on day by day. If you like an authentic Lovedraft experience and are of the patient kind then this game is for you. For me it had too much attention to detail (for every day duties) and really slowed the story development and motivation down.
