Intro: What is magic for you? A powerful bust of energy to destroy your enemies? A gentle warmth healing you from pain and wounds? Or a ray of light inside the all consuming darkness? Maybe magic is the power of the soul, manifesting itself to help you against impossible odds. Story: Amane Hibiki never believed in magic. In our modern world we are to knowledgeable to fall for silly things like that. And still, sometimes the urban legends are true and there are monsters in the darkness, attacking lonle girls. She is just a helpless young woman without any chance against the monster currently attacking her. But then she got hit by a ray of light, a spark of magic and became magical for the first time. Soon she fougt against all kind of evil but had to find out, that monsters in the darkness are only the beginning of the all consuming darkness that will await her. Gameplay: It is a rpg maker game where you control with the mouse or keyboard. ESC to open menue, optional avatar to see on the side. Overworld can be traveled fast by using waypoints, items respawn every day, freedo of movement. You have Amane, a scared, weak girl on the one side, having to stay ahead in shool, managing finances and caring for her friends. On the other side you have Celesphonia, a magical girl with magical clothes and weapons able to defeat the otherwise invulnerable monsters. Usually you transform before going onto a mission, slay monsters, defeat the boss and then use the collected souls to craft or buy better items. The game gives you storymissions, optional missions and special missions you can do or not. Money can be earned in many ways, even just by being a heroine. You have Morning, noon, evening and night as seperate time slots where you can decide what to do next. You can play this game either by staying pure. Or you can decide to give in a bit or all the way to become stronger and get more items. After roughly 20h the main story is over, but you are giving a choice to new game+ with all your skills or go into the future where you can no longer lose and have 2 big Bonus missions for you. The stats: HP - gives health, Most monsters want your body and will try to do unspeakables to you should this stat ever reach zero. Many consumeable items, skills and equipment help you to stay healthy. Even if you lose, memoria will safe you and you can try again (except from the last boss, there will be no rescue) MP - gives mana. Used for powerful attacks out of the ordinary, need special items to refill or go to sleep. SP - s basically your rage. The more you fight, the more sp you get until you can unleash powerful special attacks. Miasma - is basically toxin and should be cleaned before going over 60% or bad things may happen. Memoria sells cristals to clean it. You may bind out more effective ways later on too. Corruption - is how much of you is already under the control of the enemy. Every 15% Your sould gets corrupted and can not be reduced anymore. It unlooks new apperances and you may be able to use cursed items and become stronger. Beware that this may be no happy ending for Amane. Lust - is basically how experienced Amane is with exploring herself. It comes in 3 steps, each one must be actively unlooked at home to see the next level. Each new level of lust give you new scenes, up to 3 for every boss and 4 for special events, all scaling with the lust level. On level one nobody will hurt more then your pride, on further levels you should be prepared for some really heavy stuff. Best ending can be achieved with high lust but do not give in to the bosses more then 3 times or give birth! Domination is how much of they evil plans the bad guys have executed already. Should it ever reach 100 you lose and have to jump in time before that happens. It can be reduced just by doing your job as a heroine. The battle: Your avatar is shown at the right, with face expressions, statuses and excitement visiable. Also her magical clothes may get damaged over time which reduces her defenses. Enemies are floating in front of you, battle log on the top. Attacks are nice looking, its always clear who is attacking and what just happened. Monsters may try to grab you and block your actions. Struggeling mechanic (repeated left mouseclicks or holding ESC) to break free. Many special attacks which makes your life harder but also more entertaining Bosses need you to concentrate and adapt to they actions. Its possible to evade or block attacks bfore they hurt you. Checklist: + rpg maker style game + great atmosphere and music, feels like the beginning of a horror movie, tension is hight + Akane is relateable, intelligent and you start to feel with her + story is interesting for once, feels like a anime i want to see the end of + subtle humor + many options to get stronger, even by losing, different fighting styles possible + Many different endings, game allows you to restart of jump time shoul you not be satisfied + difficulty can be changed at any time + post game content + memoria will give you hints what you need to do to get all special scenes + free time management with 4 stages a day + Amane and Celesphonia play totally different + Its up to you what happens to Amane (and her friends) in the end. + helpful tooltips and mission info, glossary shows which dungeon spawns which item and which monsters have it + every monster can trigger a special scene based on your lust, find more in the overworld + exploration is fun, many useful items can be found by lurking around. + memory window shows all your "battle" stats, achievements can be unlooked + Saving possible whenever you want - some missions can not be solved without special items - no native fullscreen - no autosafe, get in the habit to save after all level ups or at the end of the day! - some missions require you o have a certain lust level to enter - many mechanics and missions do not work without the free patch from Kaguya games website Fazit: I came looking for a offbrand game but stayed for the story. It lures you in with likeable characters, great atmosphere and the darkness lurking into your soul. WIll you resist it and stay pure or be grandually consumed by it? Finished it in 20h, got light of hope ending on first try, feeling good. Great game, even without the offbrand stuff. Wholeheardly recommends to everyone who like role playing games. 9/10 Tipps: Start can be overwhelming, Take mending clothes and close combat! Later Healing and explosion magic, then synthesis to create your own gear from monster souls. Slave monstrum cores fur auto heal 2 can be found in the last underground base. You have to move away from the clock and look at the walls closely to break the hypnosis. Do not forget to check behind the school and it front of it as well. Downtown has a great book store, you should visit it someday. Exploring is rewarded, many special items. Try to finish the game as pure as possible first! Listen to memoria - she is there to help you. You can njot craft anything out of sould fragments and can not hold more then 99, transform them into soul power after each dungeon!
