The game and its Mechanics are fun, there is a lot to explore and you have different ways on how to tackle the game. The differnt classes are fun, and the game is decently challanging early on.
If you are a fan of games like Final Fantasy tactics I certainly recommend to you to give the game a try. The game in its current state is short but fun.
However as much as I like the game there are serval things I feel are lacking in the Game, and I really hope the Dev-team will tackle in the future: (Might be some light spoilers)
-End Game content. Once you have cleared out all of the sights there is barely anything there that keeps challanging you or makes anything worth exploring, the only thing you really have are fleet battles. The guild Mission system is severly lacking in this area aswell. Generally more "Renewable" maybe randomly generated
Dungeons would go a long way here.
-The Three Kingdoms (four?). While its fun to choose to be serving one of them and progressing through the promotions I never felt that It made a big differnce now that I was a nobody or a Royal. Sure some prices adjust, and you can see ships of your nation on the map but you can barely interact with them anyway so that feels pointless. If you choose to be at war with the nations the fleets will attack yours on the world map for the fun Ship battles, however no matter what you do, you can't "Win" the war. You can even still sneak into their Captial Cities without them caring at all. Here I would have probably wished that there were more ways to antagonize and fight the kingdoms, that are not only fleet battles. Maybe even challanging the mgihty God King himself etc.
-Many of the places feel empty and lack any love to them. When you first start the game one of the first Towns you visit has a Mine that has been infested by monsters, that really got my hopes up that the towns are all worth exploring and that there would be stuff to do. But nah, that mine is literally the only Quest you can do inside a town. And once done the mine becomes useless too. Here I would have liked it when more places and towns had something going on there, so it wouldn't just become a port where you trade some goods real quick and be on your merry way again. Maybe also things that allow some short instances on "on-land" exploration. maybe a dangerous forests you can explore that serve as an randomly generated dungeon, with dangerous monsters that spawn and you can keep going in for random loot? Maybe some underground crime base and black market, that hold illegal fighting tournaments?
-Activities: There is the Arena, with its own unique twist in Redens, the Salvage station is also a fun game to fight endless waves of Monsters while protecting the Salvage station from attacks. I enjoyed both of them, but the lack of variety becomes obvious really quick. I would have liked if there were more differnt Arenas, with differnt modes. Waves of Monsters, Duel Tournament against Heros of the land, other places that make you defend certain objectives while fending of waves of enemies.
-Your standing in the world: While you gain fame in 3 different areas, it doesn't do all that much to you, besides unlocking the next tier of your promotions. I would have liked it when maybe some of the late game content was gated behind your fame levels, that you could do certain things only once you became famous enough (outside of class unlocking), Get more difficult and interesting Missions from the guild, etc.
While this is probably asked too much and is just something I would have loved to see, would be some Town management options. Maybe you actually creating your own "Kingdom" and defend it against possible invasions of Pirates, Enemy Empires, or even Monsters while becomeing a world power yourself.
Lack of Bosses: This is actually something that annoyed me. There are almost no Boss type monsters that are challanging. I feel this also ties in with late game content. I would have liked some Legendary beasts in the wide seas to fight in a fleet, or other strong monsters you keep challanging yourself, some Optional super bosses that you just do for fun. Its something I loved about Void Spire, there were a lot of places that were SCARY with its Monsters, fights that were not meant to be won at the time you get there etc. I still challanged myself to do just that, win those unwinable fights. Simply cause the challange is fun and I feel Horizons gate is lacking it.
Lack of Exploration(?): Now I know this sounds weird, as this game is all about that and the World map is fine, I like the resource management. But I feel there was too much Focus on the World Map aspect. The Groves and such that you find are often just 2 screen. The first with some random loot, some monsters and the second screen with some more loot and a "Research Site" you can look at...And thats it. I would liked it if there were places that were a bit bigger and had some more secrets in store. Maybe I just missed some of the secret stuff but well!
Generally, there is nothing really that keeps me wanting to keep playing the game, once I discovered all sights, upgraded the ports for some random extra items (Which is cool, just no use for them at that point once I had the money to actually do it), beside just finishing the game. Replaying the game on a higher difficulty is also not a too charming thought, as it would feel like the same uninteractive experience overall. Which is really a shame, cause the game could do really well with some rouge like elements, randomly generated dungeons, etc.
My own Idea what could make the game a bit more interesting to play:
-More Arena-like places with different rule set, difficulty, maybe even objectives.
-Other places like the Salvage station that allows you to fight waves of monsters, while fullfilling an
objective. (Maybe a Town could want a Caravan protection? Maybe Monsters have been running wild and you have to exterminate them?)
-I would have liked to build my own Kingdom, were you defend and conquer places, manage your crew members for Defense and who joins you, so you have a bit of a war Simulator.
-More Bosses. Also Optional Super Bosses. There are serval endgame materials like Ironice and stuff that would be fun to be obtainable by strong boss like Monsters, or swarms. Plus points if they are redoable in a way.
-More Endgame content. For example I could see Old Gonhaldr having a secret place burried under it, with a portal that may lead you to the other realms where you can fight terrors of all kinds. Then there was that place the empire defended, that had purple warer there...What if you could actually defend the place against attackers of monsters?
-Post Game? Maybe after the final boss your could explore the next realm? Also maybe I am just dumb and haven't found it out yet, but having Dominio acessable at some point would be cool, its also a good place to put some late game content into.
I know I said a lot of negative things, but mostly cause I think this game has a lot of potential and could be so much better than it currently is, I would love to see the game blossom into something I could sink countless of hours into! So Cheers to the Devs, I enjoyed my time would like more to come though!
