I find it very sad that I have to give this a thumbs-down. After waiting three years, I hoped this would be a game worth playing.
On one hand you have a fantastic looking game, where you can tell a lot of effort has gone into it to make it look good and have a good soundtrack.
On the other hand, it is a buggy game, that doesn't come close in-terms of fun when comparing it to the first act.
I personally enjoyed in the first act that there was a message for every possible item combination/interaction. In Act 2, you often get a generic "This doesn't belong here." and other messages at most times. Another thing that isn't ideal, is that the game feels more linear than the last act.
The beginning of the game also is a little weird. This is because they scrapped two characters. Because of that, the first few areas feel a bit empty.
My personal conclusion: The game could potentionally get patched in-terms of the bugs and missing custom messages for item combinations/interactions. This is most unlikely, unfortunatly.
Even though I'm disappointed like many others, I'll still wait for the next Acts.
If anyone from What Pumpkin reads this, please take yourself more time to make a better game. Don't rush it like this one.

==> Play another chapter of a Homestuck POINT-AND-CLICK-ADVENTURE.
What POINT-AND-CLICK-ADVENTURE? This was clearly a VISUAL NOVEL all along!
But enough with the jokes. Time to get serious. I played HS: Act 2 immediately after finishing the first Act, expecting a product of similar quality but soon found myself disappointed.
Already in the very beginning we are taken on a completely useless detour from the main story to see the houses of some random characters from another Homestuck game. These areas have hardly anything to interact with and serve as little more than background decor. The transitions between screens in this part of the game is insanely jarring and immersion-breaking. Really convenient that we passed out and are now on a mountain, huh? Why are we stepping out of a cave and are suddenly standing in a forest clearing? Why do we step into a forest and next thing we see is the inside of a train station?!? And we don't even get to see these characters? Just why?
The train station itself is fine. Some character introductions and the choice between two different quests to get on the train. Cool and good.
Then the train itself. A boarding cutscene would have been nice, but sadly we don't get that. The rearmost train cars are actually quite enjoyable, we get more character introductions and some hints at sidequests. Unfortunately, we don't actually get to see the lusus caboose, it remains off limits for the entire game.
The jade/teal train car is where the game starts going sideways HARD. We now go full Ace Attorney and have to solve the case of who stole the twilight smutfic.
I found this section of the game to be very unenjoyable. Almost everyone involved in the trial is unhelpful and disinterested.
Even the hint function is of little use. Between getting berated for making any mistake and pressured by the fact that only a limited number of mistakes can be
made before game over is announced, I just wanted it to be over ASAP. The most ridicoulous part of the trial is that it can ONLY be completed with the good
ending when the player starts Act 2 with a savefile from Act 1 and keeps certain items. I spent all that time in the trial and didn't even get to serve justice.
Anyway I carried on so I could see the rest of the game.
But there wasn't any more. Following the trial, the game only consists of fetch quests going back and forth through the train to the very end.
Sure, the Clown fetch quests carry more tension because there are lives at stake, but they are still just fetchquests.
The end was sudden and anticlimactic.
It should be noted that artists and composers on this game have done incredible work, but there is a lot of polish that is simply lacking: Sprites and backgrounds vary a lot in quality and even pixelation appears in some spots, the perspectives of some rooms are very wonky, animations do not loop smoothly and are reused far too often. Even the witty item interaction texts are either lackluster or even discourage the player for wanting to use them.
Mechanics-wise there are also many issues: The textboxes from Act 1 have been replaced with text scrolling by at a crawling speed, meaning twice as many clicks just to advance the text. And boy does this Act ramp up the usage of text. It's a ridiculous clickfest.
Another issue: Considering that this game has branching decisions, there are very few save slots. Other users have mentioned in their reviews that Visual Novels usually have some 'rewind' mechanic so that players can read accidentally skipped text or take different decisions. This game does not.
All the puzzles in in Act 2 have too few hints and a major reoccuring problem is that interactions need to be taken in a certain order, often for no real reason.
This game is not worth fifteen dollars. At best it is worth as much as HS: Act 1, but that is already very generous. The Homestuck community is taking the quality of these games far too lightly. This is almost nothing but self-advertising for the Homestuck Friendsim game. Who is this game even catering to? Only Homestuck fans would ever find this game, and they already know about troll romance and the intricacies of the classist Alternian society! Had I waited for three years for this I would have absolutely flipped my shit. The devs have done a bad job and should feel bad. Do not buy.
