A faithful, if not slightly messy, homage to the original games!
Spyro was my absolute childhood, and I was really excited when Spyro Reignited was announced. I played the originals relentlessly, even into adulthood, so the idea of a better looking, readily available copy of the trilogy coming out was music to my ears!
Spyro is a small dragon embarking on a big adventure! Reignited, just like the original games, has Spyro explore and restore the peace in a myriad of different worlds by defeating foes and collecting gems (or dragon eggs!) It's a great 3D platformer with simply but satisfying gameplay, and each portal to another world feels like a genuine, bite-sized adventure.
Was my experience, compared to the glory of the originals, perfect? Not by a long shot. But this was still a valiant and loyal recreation of the original games, and only let down by one or two gripes.

[*]Outside of visual and audio updates, the game is extremely faithful to the original. The Spyro series was fabulous as it was, and I'm glad they didn't try to tweak it along the way as some might've–they've simply updated the look and made it more readily available. There has been some unifying across the board, such as skill points, dodge roll, and Sparx' ability to find gems, but these are minor, and helpful tweaks.
[*]The art style was well thought-out and well-produced. Fits the games perfectly. It's still as vibrant and atmospheric and cartoony as ever. The original was pretty but Reignited is breath taking! Really tasteful choices that felt like a true homage to the OG.
[*]Gameplay is just this really wonderful combination of exploration, platforming, mini games, collections, all wrapped up in easily digestible worlds that are all very distinct and fun to explore.
[*]Spyro's movements and skillset are simply but satisfying to use. It's just a hoot to play and the time flies.
[*]Each game gets better and better, in my opinion! So the experience of playing them in order just improves and improves.

[*]These will, obviously, be personal preference, but for me the VA work fell flat, as did the remastered music. I just really miss when these types of games had incredibly over the top and zany VA work. I can remember the pitch and pronunciation of so many lines of the original NPC's, but in Reignited I can't recall any if it... half of the NPC's just sounded bored!
[*]There are some incredibly irritating bugs and glitches and the fact that these haven't been addressed is gross. I've gotten jammed inside lamp posts, ledges, and stairs and had to quit and reenter the game. I, too, suffered with the FPS glitch--this glitch made me unable to reach certain gems because hover wouldn't work, made the slides in Year of the Dragon impossible, made the egg thief chases incredibly difficult and caused them to glitch out, and had Spyro just slide around on his own and fling himself from cliffs. The glitches were 100x worse in the final game, too, so it really ruined my experience. Year of the Dragon is my favourite out of the three, but I was so angry over these glitches that by Evening Lake I just wanted to get my achievements done and bounce. I didn't realise it was a glitch until I got to the final world, too. I thought I was just struggling with the new controls!
[*]While I like the look and potential of Spyro's movements and think they've encapsulated that vaguely cat-like quality he always had really well, the controls in general can feel very gluey and I found myself missing the sharper (perhaps some might say jarring) quality of the older controls.
[*]The camera had a mind of its own half the time.
Even with my gripes, I can't deny that this is still a really well-articulated recreation of the original games, and it's nice to see a new horde of folk discovering these games now they're more accessible!
Do I still, faithful as ever, recommend playing the originals instead? Yeah. I'm sorry, I just prefer them! They're a product of their time, but I can't say they've aged badly. But I totally get that the Reignited version appeals more widely now, and if it gets more folk trying it, then fine!
Just make sure to change your FPS to 30 if you have any weird problems. The game also comes with a free pass to blame your mistakes on the game, and it's probably true for once!
The game is beautiful, fun as ever, and stayed very close to the source content, and as the reviews show, most folk really enjoy the experience–but please just purchase with a grain of salt–because it does have its glitches! 👍

1 and 2 games are amazing, fit the whole theme well, music is good, gameplay is great.
And then there is an ugly ducking, the 3 game. Buggy, repetitive music, and lazy slapped achievements. Almost like effort went into two games only.
They still make a nice trilogy that is hard not to recommend.

It's not "exactly" the same as the original trilogy, but overall it's quite faithful and fun. I wish they hadn't so drastically changed some of the monsters, and I wish the VA had more personality in this version, but being able to play these games in glorious high quality on top of high framerates (I'd lock it to 120, or you'll end up with some "funny" glitches)

It's a fun return to classic platforming games of the PS1 era and is genuinely fun throughout without being stupidly difficult or anything.

After 100%ing each of the games, I highly recommend this if you want something chill to do. It's a game you need to not focus on too much and turn off your brain. The game isn't highly optimized, but is a good remaster of the original games. Spyro 1 is great, but there is no ability to skip cut scenes and the credits are around 20 minutes. Spyro 2 is also great, but the underwater levels are definitely a challenge and annoying. Spyro 3 is by far the most annoying, as there is underwater levels, skating levels which are impossible to control, a lot of glitches when it comes to other character levels, slides, etc. Overall it is a great experience, just a little buggy every now and then. A good 20 hour experience for anyone to play, experienced in gaming or not.

One of the best console games ever made. Love the ability to switch to original graphics whenever as well.

Bought this solely for the nostalgia trip, and that didn't disappoint.
I won't be able to put this away until I've completed all 3 games and maxed out the guidebook items.

Great games. Haven't played the originals, but an aesthetic comparison via Youtube shows the updated character models are tastefully improved. The controls, though...had to switch from 60 FPS to 30 FPS to stop Spyro from sliding when still and to get him to jump when prompted.
The first entry has the cleverest but also the most frustrating level design if you aim for completion. Ripto's Rage, to me, is the best of the three since we get upgraded abilities, especially the ever-so-vital hop at the end of the glide, its straightforward presentation. Year of the Dragon leaves a lot to be desired upon first viewing with its myriad minigames requiring familiarity with several relatively poor control schemes, with pronounced kludginess in the whack-a-mole, skateboarding and ice racing games. However, the shooting minigames are a good first entry, especially when it has third- and first- and rail-shooters (all very easy), and the ease and replayability of the speedway levels greatly improves in YOTD, compared to Spyro 1 or 2.

I spent the time to complete them all before reviewing. It's hard to give a recommend because the only good thing is the models and art side of it. All of them look great. Sadly all of the games lack optimization and bug fixes as if it's a day 1 release never updated, the original games work much better in that sense.
When using 2 monitors, it loads on the 2nd monitor every single time ever and occasionally drags the mouse to your 2nd monitor dooming what you're doing in the current game. The game only crashed 1 time for me when tabbing out at least.
You can load any level any time once you started it and the games are mostly faithful to the originals, so you can return to 100% anything missed.
Spyro 1 - Some levels with wizards are soft-locked unless you change FPS to 30.
-The credits are unskippable the first time and 20+ minutes long.
-Flight controls are inverted and less responsive than regular.
Spyro 2 - Swimming is worse than flying.
-Remembering to hover at the end of glides, and having it work when needed, is rough.
-The skeleton does fortnite dances I hope it collapses and stops dancing.
-Aiming cannons or spit items is a nightmare.
-Flying through ring sections is a nightmare.
Spyro 3 - Best thing about this game is an egg hint named "Bad Dragon".
-Skateboarding is worse than swimming, which is worse than flying.
-Sparx is barely responsive to nearby gems if using a character that isn't Spyro.
-Timed segments are horrible.
All Spyro's: Look great, function poorly.
They could of given the dragons fatter asses too, missed opportunity compared to how everything else got caked up.
