Vile has an interesting mixture of different elements which has been a fresh breath of air for me personally since transitioning from Enter the Gungeon. I really enjoy the fact that objectives and talents are inclusive in the core features of progression which certainly makes for a different experience overall. The classic horror theme and gothic-like style of Vile is enhanced greatly by its wonderfully detailed art style diverse set of characters which creates a unique dark top-down experience. The music is incredibly engaging and draws you further into the gritty dark setting reminiscent of dungeon-crawlers from the past. The game-play overall is immaculate, the fast pace, wealth of enemies and level of difficulty really leaves you feeling rewarded while you clear your way to the depths of hell itself. The lack of one's ability to gauge timing on enemy attack patterns (especially the bosses) also leaves you having to scramble at points and try be more cerebral with your positioning and surroundings. Overall, I would recommend this game to any rogue-lite or ARPG fans looking for a moderate challenge and a bit of fun. Enjoy!

Not terribly satisfying combat, paired with character development that is slow and grindy. The level generator lacks any sort of interesting layouts, to the extent that it would probably be more fun to play the same hand made level over and over again. Some of the weapon and item drops are moderately interesting, but it's definitely not up to nuclear throne level.

Nice top down shooter thats like a mash between Enter the Gungeon and Van Helsing Pro's

Top down shooting goodness
Fluid controls
Great boss design and art style
Lots of weapons and magic
Unique characters with different abilities (dodge roll, special attack)
Con's

Difficulty needs tuning
Quests or Tasks in each area are quite similar and remind me of Kill X thing or collect X item, more variety would be appreciated
Expect to die multiple times to upgrade your talents to become stronger
Immortal creatures that murder you and you cannot kill them(unsure if these are a bug or not)
Menu needs some improvement (not being able to continue at a boss unless you start from the main menu)
Gameplay (Stream) https://youtu.be/FNfRCunHGJo

Fun but gets repetitive real fast. I've played the first area for hours building souls to increase stats & I'm now ready to blow my brains out. The graphics are very plain, the addition of more detail & uniqueness to the level design would definitely take away from how fast this game gets boring. I can't force myself to play anymore for now but if the devs do some more work on it I would visit it again.

I can't beat the second boss. It only takes a few minutes to even get to it, and my playtime has been almost exclusively spent on the second boss. That is absurd. It is super spongy, can 1-hit-ko you if you get too close (and you have to get close, cause weapons have terrible range), heals the entire fight, spawns adds all the time, and is constantly slinging spells at you that require constant dodging. It's a complete brickwall and its only A FEW MINUTES INTO THE GAME. No. That is stupid. Do not support stupid games.

One of the best rogue-lite that I have played so far, has surprised me a lot. The game starts with three unlocked characters but there are many more that you can unlock as you progress through the game by overcoming zones. I have not yet unlocked all the characters but for the moment I can say they are well balanced and all have different skills and initial weapons. It is not an easy videogame, which for me is very positive.

Pretty decent visual assets, otherwise incredibly generic and subpar when compared to any game it is clearly inspired by. Weapons and equipment are boring. Map generation and objectives are extremely simplistic and repetitive. Enemy's and combat, outside of bosses, are very basic. In general outside of the art assets, every other aspect of the game feels like it is placeholder and early access. For under 15$ you can buy/play any of these games instead, and you should. Vile is not really unique in the genre of roguelikes but it has its own charm that sets it apart. The controls are solid and the mechanics are fleshed out. What stands out most is the art style and the characters. Each character is a classic horror trope (ranging from generic vampire hunter all the way up to werewolf and Death himself) but each one is done creatively with different enough mechanics to merit a playthrough of each one just to see what play style fits you best. Personally, I preferred the huntress character until I was finally able to unlock death's emissary (which is the final character you encounter). The enemies and levels are challenging without being infuriating. The souls you collect during a run are used to buy upgrades that carry over to all subsequent runs and the tech tree means that you just need a few more souls to give you the edge you need to beat a level. Bonus points for a developer that is super responsive to feedback. I've been playing this game since early access and I encountered some bugs after 1.0 release. I told the dev about it and they did several updates to the game until they were able to fix the bugs I was encountering. I'm proud to have been able to assist them with polishing the final product. If the art style from the trailer speaks to you and you enjoy this kind of top down shooter/roguelike then I say definitely give Vile a chance. You won't be disappointed.

Originally, I bought this game because it released close to my 19th birthday, so I didn't really expect much from it, but I have never regretted buying this game for a second. It continues to be enjoyable and exciting, and I haven't even beaten it yet. Sometimes I'll go weeks or months without playing it, but every time I come back to it, its just as fun as I remember. (And the soundtrack is awesome!) It definitely starts off as kinda challenging, but you'll get used to it. (It really helps when you figure out how to destroy projectiles with any of the characters' abilities, too.) The levels in between bosses can be a little dull sometimes, but the boss fights are challenging, intense, and very climactic, but they never felt overly unfair. Personally, I would definitely recommend Vile to a friend, especially if they are interested in roguelikes! :)

Somekind of a first review.Allright rogue-fans here is a brandnew game from a new company called ARDENTSQUID with their game VILE.If you like Nuclear Throne,Dungeon Souls or Deathstate this is for you. Not only demons are attacking you also mushrooms(yeah grim looking mushrooms!). Little worms too.Enemys are fast, but game feels for me right perfect not too easy not too hard. I played my first 1,8 hours so im just in the beginning.VILE costs in Europe 8,19 Euro in EA,a nice price for such a likeable game. Until now I didnt found any bugs I guess, game runs flawless as far I can see on my Computer. Vile could be successfull but this depends also from the purchases. I recommend this game to all my Steam-Chummers and ppl who loves rogue/likes/lites.
