As much as I really enjoy the game, it's honestly hard to recommend the game to others once I found out that this was online only (Steam Deck user here, can't really play this as conveniently when travelling about). Also means that I really doubt this game will remain playable if the developer/publisher chooses to move onto a sequel (and it sounds like this has happened quite a bit given their past DJ Max games), so I also haven't really bought much more DLC for this game despite really wanting to. if you don't mind any of this, this is a really nice music, rhythm game with great soundtracks. Otherwise, there are other games in this genre that don't suffer from such a problem.

Pretty good rhythm game, if u have played O2Jam (boomer game) then u might find this similar
Pros:
+ very good animation video
+ key note with sound
+ very well designed UI/theme (very weeb.)
+ many songs (Base game already include 195 songs, but require play to unlock. Dlcs give another 400+ songs)
+ Can be used as music player (Air mode + video music player in collection mode)
+ Multiple game mode (4,5,6,8 keys) and multiple difficulties for each song
Cons:
- Too many dlcs (often have 80% sales)
- Existence of seasonal pass (The song in seasonal pass will become free after 9 months)
- Not friendly to boomer

Thought I'd leave a review, since I do love the game a lot 😁
Honestly out of all the VSRGs on PC that I have played, this is one of the best, if not the best VSRG on PC. There's a lot of aspects that make the game stand out: Song selection, Gameplay experience regarding charting, Community in ladder and lobby matches , Aesthetics, especially with skins.
DLCs are a huge part of DJMAX RESPECT V but they are 100% worth it except perhaps 2 or 3 DLC packs (only my opinion), but it's simply the fact that most aspects of the game are quite well designed and developed, with the stunning and cool BGAs, as well as the fact hitsounds are rather keysounded which makes the experience much better! The game is interesting considering the fact there are 4 different modes: 4B, 5B, 6B and 8B, all of which are fun and enjoyable, especially 5B (love the charting in 5B most of the time).
The simple Freestyle mode or Air mode aren't necessarily challenging, as far as I am aware the timing window in these modes are pretty lenient, however after playing for a while mission mode can be discovered, where these can be referred to as "courses" where they feature a set of tracks in a course with set regulations, and sometimes these can use "Hard Judge" i.e. a tighter timing window, so these are a way to challenge yourself.
Other than that, I genuinely do suggest playing DJMAX RESPECT V out, explore the 4 different game modes and don't just stick to one, and buy the game with at least one of the V Extension or V Liberty DLCs, there are many good songs in those packs!

Literally my favorite game of all time. I'm back and forth on it. But every time, the beat maps switches with most songs as I personally find anything super repetitive. My opinion.
Allowing you to understand certain techniques of each song it's got. This game even offers many customization options for profile, beat UI, main menu, and to add... Even the SFX for getting a combo going while hitting without missing a note. I personally play this, TLoU, Enter the Gungeon, DMCV. But I always find myself wanting to play this game above anything being the most hours I put into the game.
The multiplayer offers some experiences like 1v1 to see who can hit most combos by tracking the accuracy of those songs to climb the ladder for RANKED whenever the season is going.
If not ranked, you can simply join other lobbies where you can binge other songs the person hosting has to play along with them and enjoy. It's a casual experience but it's like you are there trying to "git gud" while relaxing if that does make any sense.
DJMRV even offer a weird thing named AIR that is like playing songs you don't really have? But you can go on for hours with this live streaming set where you can see multiple emojis and even text in there. It's public and people can see that. You even have emojis with animating SFX which some are definitely either animating or static. Nonetheless, it has a lot of personality with it and their mascots of the franchise.
You have missions where that is straight forward.
Example: Completing five songs... first two songs are 4B, third song is 5B, and last is 6B with an effect named Fade-in.
These are super challenging for me personally but if you wanna torture yourself and play this in freestyle meaning you can freely pick whatever song, you have the option to apply the chaos effects that could look like pixels every time you miss a note OR you can flip the whole thing having to figure out which buttons is which. There is a lot to it and the devs give you free options. I thoroughly appreciate this game as somebody who has dedicated hours on it and think you should consider this game. It's not gonna give you some mainstream garbage of music off the radio but rather has their own artist who works with the devs? I'm not sure. But the music is diverse and genre-bending sometimes that you get to truly be immerse in hitting the notes while The Universe or Die In is playing.
Currently, I'm enjoying the V Liberty 3 Pack with 5B. I recommend that and the one with Die In. Those or if you like old school Djmax, they even sell Technika Pack. Thank you.

DJMAX RESPECT V in my opinion is probably the best rhythm game on the market and especially for PC. Firstly talking about the music itself, if you want a rhythm game with any possible genre of music from cute pop, punk rock, rave sets, even jazz whatever your heart desires, this game has multiple tracks to suit your taste. I own every dlc for this game, and at first I only purchased the deluxe on sale and slowly bought the remainder dlc. I would not suggest buying everything right away, given that this game has a very high learning curve, but I suggest the extension packs, the collaboration packs that interest you and the v liberty packs are also great, but again I recommend waiting for sales, because although I personally think the packs are worth the money, the game goes on sale very often and the packs are also available on sale too. For those worried about the game being always online, that is your choice whether you are ok with that or not. This game has quite a while more in lifespan and if the game does indeed end of service it is very unlikely that it will not have an offline, as the playstation version does and no longer receives updates. Furthermore, the recent collaborations have been met with very good reception with the battlepass items also rotating in a shop, so you do not even need to feel forced to buy anything if you want to wait and see if you like the game first. it is also worth noting this is the only time DJMAX has been ported to steam, so it is in a much more stable state. Regardless, I choose to enjoy the game knowing this, because it is by far the most content for money on any rhythm game, other than OSU and that is not my preference for a music game.
Moving on to the actual gameplay, I also play games like Muse Dash and Project Mega Mix and DJMAX by far has the best input reading. This game plays very well on keyboard, and there is a 4, 5, 6 and 8 button mode. Not only that but for the modes you have normal, hard, maximum and super crazy, which means you will spend hundreds of hours to even clear every track once. With my current playtime, I have manage to go through 4 and 6 button with learning 5 button and I have also started learning to clear Maximum and SC tracks consistently. The point of that is that it can take very long to master the timing and patterns, but the game allows you to change your gear skin and note skin, which helps a lot if you struggle reading the notes. You can also change the speed of the notes, but the song would retain the length so think of it kinda like a metronome. Finally you are able to turn off note sound if it really bothers you as well and with a recent update you can even change the note effect from the note skin separate. The dlc all come with their own skins, and there are also free unlocks from playing. you can unlock up to about 900 plates and many icons with about the same for gallery items. Every song can unlock a music video by clearing the song with a full combo on any button and difficulty at least once. In other words, if you want a flexible game that allows you to slowly amp up the difficulty and you want lots of collectibles, then this game is also perfect for that.
In short, I am still very new to the community, but I have seen so many players that are willing to give tips on how to improve on reddit and youtube, and the online is also fairly active. You can find rooms to also play against people, you can play against your friends and there is even an air mode where you can relax and listen to music. In other words, it would take very long for you to eventually complete everything, but you also do not need to invest too much time to play the game at a basic level. Just slowly play through the difficulties and decide if and when you want to try other difficulties, button modes and song packs. And the game has awesome music videos, characters and even a story, so I think it is by far the most polished game and I at least can say that my time with this game was not wasted, because it is just so responsive and snappy to play.

This is my introduction to the DJMAX series.
My experience may be a little biased, so it's worth mentioning that I have extensively played rhythm games prior to DJMAX RESPECT V. I am already proficient at titles such as Dance Dance Revolution, Beatmania, In The Groove, DJ Hero, Rock Band, Flash Flash Revolution, ParaPara, Clone Hero, etc (probably missing a few but these were the ones I can recall the most)
Picking up DJMAX for the first time felt very familiar. Reminds me the most of Beatmania, without a doubt. A game I always had an appreciation & reverence for but never got to play often. The scoring system reminds me of the percentage grade system from In The Groove, and I feel like it works really well for perfectionist type players. The music videos give old school DDR arcade vibes. If you know, you know. Strobe lights and seizure-inducing animations to distract you from the notes charted to the song.
This game is exceptional for what it is, but not entirely without its flaws.
Here are some things I'd like to point out;
Pros:
-Incredibly easy to jump right into
-Replay value is through the roof
-UI is simple, easy to navigate, and you can customize it (with themes)
-Responsive tracking for note accuracy
-Tons of DLC to tide you over if the base game isn't enough (spoiler alert; you will want more)
-Variety of play styles to keep your experience fresh and challenging
-Plethora of unlockables, if you like achievements and grinding stuff this might be your next new obsession
-You can stick with one playstyle (4B, 5B, 6B, 8B) and clear a respectable amount of content/unlockables, though I think it's in the games design to progress you to higher difficulties via Mission Mode
-Different modes to pick from, not your typical streamlined arcade experience
---------------------------
Cons:
-Not all songs are great, especially if you are limited to just the base game (lots of pop)
-Best played with extra (paid) content, I personally would not have enjoyed the game as much without extra song packs to give me options
-Higher difficulties/higher button counts can be deterring for new players such as myself (I still haven't even touched 6B or 8B tracks for the most part)
-Plate unlocks can be rather time consuming for those who don't want to play the same song 10 different times (even with different patterns/button styles it can be repetitive)
-DLC in itself is costly if you don't get it on sale, not sure if I would have expanded my game without the 80 percent off sale
---------------------------
Closing notes:
This is a GRINDY game. I have no problem with it personally, but I can see how others might be put off by the sheer amount of things to do. The replay value is entirely subjective and heavily depends on how you click with the soundtrack/gameplay.
If you LOVE rhythm games, this is a must try!!!!
However..... I cannot in good faith recommend this to anyone who doesn't already play or enjoy rhythm games such as the ones I mentioned in the beginning of the review.
It's kind of a niche genre but still clearly alive and well for some of us.
I'm glad I picked this up, and will continue to push myself to higher difficulties and different pattern play styles as I progress. At about 30 hours in (at the point of posting this review) I can EASILY see myself putting another 30+ hours into grinding out achievements. I love music games, so this felt like finding a hidden gem when it was recommended to me via Steam.
I have two scores to give today, one for people who actually play rhythm games regularly and one for the "average gamer"
Rhythm Gamer Score:
8.5 / 10
Average Gamer Score:
6 / 10
