Literally unplayable, only need the CD key for this game to play it because it wants to launch on Ubisoft connect, but because I once tried a freeplay of it years ago it won't give me a new CDkey. Attempts to resolve this through steam support go nowhere. They shouldn't be selling a product they're incapable of actually providing.

Uninstalled after spending 15 minutes fighting the Ubisoft launcher, only to start the first mission and run out of planks before building a warehouse which meant I could not harvest more planks to build said warehouse. Stupid mechanics.

Good game, however the ubisoft connect requirement sucks.. If i buy a game on steam, I dont want yet another shitty launcher to play it..

The game itself is very good, amazing art style with a lot of things to do, especially when you have the dlc. But being shackled with Ubisofts crappy launcher and having to be constantly online to play a single player game, in 2025 is unacceptable.

Feels very repetitive and the UI is a bit of a nightmare - no scrolling with arrow keys when paused, have to do it by putting the mouse to the edge of the screen... (come on that's a UI basic level fail!) No ability to enter city management screens when paused - have to do it with the game running in the background - fair enough for multiplayer mode, but if in single-player mode why does the game need to keep running - can't even highlight individual buildings to gain basic info...? Graphically looks okay, but not 1st in class...

Terrible business practice by Ubisoft. I bought this game and i am having to log into Ubisoft Connect, which doenst send verification mails/ recovery mails... (not even to spam box) I bought the game with my money, so i should be able to play it whenever i like. Now i have to spend my time writing negative reviews on steam and trying to get a hold of a human at Ubisoft who can disable my 2 step verification, which was another thing forced upon me by this money grabbing, piece of dookie company.
I played a fair bit of Anno 1800 on the PS5, so i know that it is good. The publisher is the problem.

the game itself is fun and i honestly like it a lot
HOWEVER
if it were published under any other publisher it would be 10000000000 times better
every single time i attempt to launch the game i have to spend so much time trying to troubleshoot the ubisoft connect launcher because it is complete and utter garbage
i dont understand how they have managed to botch what used to be uplay even further but jesus christ just attempting to get into the game is genuinely the worst experiences i have ever had
maybe this is just the experience ubisoft intended though: have a publisher sale where genuinely good games such as this are on sale, force players to install your absolutely terrible launcher because wahwah DRM!!!!!, game never launches, player gets screwed out of money they thought they were able to find value in
thanks ubisoft
