Game could have been good. Game creators put in an "auto nerf" so that even if your character is capable of one shotting a boss, you have to fight it just like someone that struggles to survive. The respec function of this game is truly the worst of any ARPG, Ive ever played; when you respec, you have to level up your skills from zero which puts you at a huge disadvantage. Graphics are good, story is ok...but dosent have a conclusion and right now there isn't a plan to add a conclusion. I hated D4 and D4 offers a better experience than this game does. This game has a slight improvement on D4s skill customization, but is light years behind POE1 or POE2.
My overall impression is that the game creators got tired of working on this game and suffered burn out and just gave up.

If you love ARPGs, you NEED to play this It's not a game you'll fall in love with at first because it's not designed that way. You'll feel like it's just another ARPG with cool graphics and monsters to kill. But then you start discovering the insanely deep skill specialization system, layers upon layers of character customization, the BEST crafting in the entire genre, and suddenly it's your favorite game to play.

Launch was good; Season 1 was good, but an ARPG cannot be taken seriously with content updates once in a blue moon. Why would I spend time on this when I could be playing far fresher content on any number of other ARPGs?

If you're not satisfied with Diablo's lack of depth, and feel overwhelmed by Path of Exile's steep difficulty curve and slow progression, you might want to take a look here. Last Epoch strikes an ideal balance between accesibility and depth, sprinkled with a good amount of quality-of-life features that let you focus on clearing screenfuls of enemies while inching ever closer to your dream build.

The gameplay itself is okay, it's sort of a carbon copy of Diablo 4? The biggest issue is getting the game to run. I press play and it doesn't open. I've looked online for fixes (of which there are dozens of suggestions) and still it won't run. If you run/close/run/close/run/close/run it will eventually be like "OH you want me to launch the .exe! Okay!" and lots of online comments about there not being support or a fix... So I mean... If they don't care about the game, why should we?

Honestly, it's pretty easy! But you know what: I like it! Finally a game I can beat and not feel not super frustrated playing.
Also: OMG, the game actually explains all of its rules and terminology to you?!!! What a revolutionary idea! (I'm being sarcastic because I hate how long it has taken the industry to do this. Get with it, PoE2! Thank you, 11th hour games!)

This is a very good arpg with great ideas and the devs clearly know and love the genre.
However this is not a full release, this is a early access that got the 1.0 tag slap onto it.
The amount of bugs for a supposedly "1.0" are very concerning, and most importantly (and more worrying) are the technical issues it has: memory leaks, memory consumption (it consumes around 10gb of ram), high vga temps, and the worst offender of all, FPS drops. I am a new player that hasnt finished the campaign and i had to stop playing because i constantly get fps drops that ruin the experience.
Lastly keep in mind that the main campaign (story) is not finished, if you had doubts about it read other peoples reviews.
If you are looking to scratch that arpg itch casually for a few hours the game can help you with that (this was my case), however if you want a game to dedicate many hours i suggest think about it carefully and read as many reviews as possible before making a decision.

This is one of the few awesome ARPGs remain that supports offline play (even tho offline still have lots of bugs i.e. can't rearrange stash tabs, evade is unreliable etc). The offline feature alone is worth a buy. You don't need to worry about someone turning off a server and the game disappears.
As many have pointed out the campaign story is unfinished. But I'm not a story guy. Even after the stupid amount of hours I've put in, I still can't tell you what the main story is about. I'm here for the build and the loot. Both of these features are extremely accessible while being very deep and fun. This game has heart and it shows. It lives up to the claim of being made by people who loves ARPGs. This is a solid game that abundantly exceeds its asking price.

There used to be a time when a game would be released in it's 1.0 foundational state, and it was fundamentally considered complete. It meant that all the gameplay and story elements were in place, and any ancillary content could be added in at a future date.
This could include extra story elements, items, dungeons, expansions, patches, and DLC etc.
Apparently, not anymore.
I waited for years to see Last Epoch exit early access and finally hit that glorious 1.0 release.
I even waited another year for the game to have all the creases ironed out.
So, I purchased the game, and was having a decent time.
...that is, until the main quest storyline just 'stopped'.
Now to be clear, I don't mean it concluded. I mean, it just 'stops' half-way through the story, and then you're left to go do mindless end-game farming.
I genuinely thought my game was bugged and that the main quest wasn't showing. But a bit of research had me find out that the devs didn't think to complete the most basic element of a game - the story, before a 1.0 launch.
And what's worse, is that people just defend this type of practise?
Imagine if I sold you a book, but left the back half completely blank, and I told you "I'll write the rest some time in the future. Not really sure when though"
Not a sequel, but I'll finish the first book at some indeterminate time in the future.
Nebulous much?
Or imagine you sit down at a restaurant, and the waiter brings you only half of your meal, and says "We only made the first half - even though you paid for all of it. We'll eventually cook you the second half, at some point. Just not today. But you can have dessert! We have loads of dessert!"
Ludicrous. And yet, that's the standard that is being accepted more and more nowadays.
Sure, Last Epoch has some great elements to it. Genuinely.
Character building is cool. Loot filters in the game are top-notch. Visuals can be great.
But presentation means little when the foundational product is incomplete - at full price.
Ridiculous.
Truthfully, I feel cheated. And looking at the 2025 road-map, where story content will be added 'some time later', I realise I should've just waited until the far off future when the game price will have likely dropped.
Cheaper price for an 'actual' finished product.
This just feels like a lazy rush-to-market strategy, and I'd refund if I could, however it took me way more than the allotted refund time to know that the story would just 'cut off'. Which seems scummy.
Also, apparently even one of the game devs thinks you're being too unreasonable in expecting a 1.0 full release of a game to be, y'know, 'fully completed'. As he said that the 1.0 distinction of the game is "Fairly Arbitrary".
I call major bs on that one.
You don't get to redefine what "Full Release" means, just to account for your lack of complete content.
Furthermore, the endgame content, while nice in theory, honestly just boils down to this:
- Click a big floaty island in space.
- Now click on a smaller floaty island in space and fight a bunch of enemies.
- Do 10-20 more of these smaller floaty islands - with the same grinding of enemies.
- Now you've unlocked a boss fight.
- Fight said boss
- Click another big floaty island in space and repeat.
It's boring, and in no way a good placeholder for a completed and memorable story.
If the game was completed, I would've looked back on the game and thought "Yeah wow. That was a nice experience. Not the best I've ever played, but nice. And that's worth a recommend."
As it stands, I think you should stay away from the game for another year (or possibly two) - as of this review date, and reassess the state of the game at that time.
Until then, don't perpetuate crappy business standards - or they'll become normalised and you'll be the only one paying for it.
